Councils have destroyed town centres across the country with arrogant bad management. Virtually all town centres are depressing. Councils just have no idea how to move with the times. Maybe now it's too late.
I’m a Wiganer ! And this is best video I’ve seen for ages 😂😂😂brilliant ! Sums the town up perfectly and had me laughing all the way through ! Keep em coming 👏👏👍
"Nothing wrong with being a black man. I just didn't expect to see it in Wigan". The previous statue you looked at was George Formby, who, as a giant star of the time, railed against the racial segregation in South Africa - in 1946, two years before Apartheid was introduced. When D.F.Malan, Prime Minister and architect of Apartheid, telephoned Formby to complain that he had been seen openly embracing a black girl while in South Africa, Beryl, his wife and manager replied "Why don't you piss off, you horrible little man?" That's the way to do it.
A tad unfair to put down upon the people of Wigan with your comments on how you described the town, to be fair like most towns in the UK the local councils have done this to get rid of town centres to stop people going into them, hike the rates up they become unmanageable. It's also a control to stop people having freedom to go to places like this.
Wigan doesn't look that bad honestly. The 3 large towns i've lived in are far worse. Maybe this is the state of the country when Wigan looks appealing 😂
Back in the day wigan casino was the northern soul venue for the soul boys and girls keeping the faith and dancing to rare and unheard American soul dance music of the late 60s and mid 70s.sad to see the local council turning a blind eye to the obvious plastic antisocial litter issue.
It's a shame towns are being run-down. People are being pushed into cities, but towns were always better places to live. Quieter than cities, but big enough to have plenty to do, with a similar community feel to living in a more rural area.
Wigan is also the home of 1980’s pop band Kajagoogoo with Limahl as its lead singer - as a teenager in Rural Ireland back then, I loved the 1980’s when life was so much better compared to what it has become in 2023

As property prices rise in manchester, the satellite towns may actually survive, as the people (like me) who cant afford houses in central manchester have to look further out. The same happened with london.
The library security guards were recording you (the indicator lights on their cameras were on), clearly they exited the building with the intention of capturing footage of you. Under GDPR regulations they were obligated to inform you their cameras were recording. Write and complain to the Data Commissioner and ask Wigan council for a copy of the footage. Do this for every interaction you have with every security guard recording you with a body worn camera. They all seem keen on false 'not allowed' rules, how about reminding them about actual regulation?

These towns make me depressed. You're doing a fantastic job highlighting all the things that we notice are wrong with this country, and putting it into words. I came to the UK in 2010 at 19 years old, and since then, I've travelled extensively around the country. And your observations are always spot on. It's such a strange mix of good and bad here, and you are essentially confined to large cities if you actually want to do something with your life. The UK does an excellent job marketing itself to the world, attracting immigrants, but once you get out of the major centres and see what life is really like for millions of people, it's not as rosey as they present it.
