Great video and as a similar age to you who grew up in that town before moving down South it's a lovely trip down memory lane. 7:45 in particular made me smile as a proper Leighther never accepted the boundary change and will still mark all their correspondence "Leigh, Lancashire"
Love this! I’m a Leyther, who also went to Railway Road college in the early 90s. My childhood friend Paul L and my husband Paul B are part of the team that brought Pete Shelley’s mural to life. Also you went past our house (I live right next to the canal at Butts Bridge). I don’t get out and about in Leigh very much even though I still live here! It’s amazing to see how much things have changed. Really enjoyed the video.
I'm a Leyther myself. The guided bus route to Manchester is absolutely brilliant. I can hop on the bus to get to concerts as it stops right near the Academy, Ritz and the Bridgewater hall. Also good for shopping trips and day drinking. 🙂
Nice opening views of the trackbed Eccles - Tyldesley, worked this line as a fireman often, on Warrington trips to service colliery yards Jacksons etc. from Kenyon jc. but my favourite was working the 10/20 pm Holyhead parcels from Manchester Exchange to Warrington c 1960 When for some reason we were diverted along it to Kenyon Jc. with my driver Jimmy Cunliffe, two Earlestown lads together.
Nice one Keiran , i did the Dolgellau to Barmouth then Fairbourne bimble monday, it was a nice sunny day for a change, even took my trangia stove and had a brew in the sand dunes, life,s good, cheers buddy,😊
I left higher folds and Leigh back in the good old days of 1999. The year I think south park was populer and the soprapnoes aird for first time. And Johnny Vaughn and Kelly brook ruled big breakfast
Sad to see such a nice building Leigh Technical College being pulled down. It gave many learning opportunities to the children of Leigh especially those who left school with no qualifications.
Another cracking bimble Kieran, quite a long one as well. :-) That looked quite a complicated route, must have taken a lot of working out. Enjoyed it as always. Nice one.
Went back to Leigh as my Dad was unwell and I more or did the same journey. I also went to Southport just for a day excursion. A trip down memory lane From Aotearoa The land of the long white cloud Cheers Have a great day
Pete shelley mural on side of that building. Thought being a music man might've talked about the buzzcocks. Spiral scrath ep. Worth a fortune back in the day. Anyway loved the bimble kieran.
Used to work there as an EHO Run down town 2nd place to Wigan. Used to call people from Leigh laythers due the name spelling and lobby gobblers. As wiganers are called pie eaters they called laythers lobby gobblers. as hence they can’t afford a crust on a pie and the filling of a pie looks like lob ( lob scouse). Or tata ash in Manchester Lob all together a cruel insult to Leigh. Oh and very competitive in rugby. Cmon Leigh 😎👍
Considering the original railway route was flat ! the absolute sack construction company that built the bus and cycle route must of designed it like a snakes back its up and down all over the place and RUFFEST workmanship ever cycle path ever. you want to name and shame that outfit..
It is alleged that a prominent North Western politician had a cut on the earth moving contract. Hence, why you take a perfectly flat (or almost so) railway line with bridges that avoid traffic congestion into a line that intersects into roads with major traffic flows. Parishioners from Leigh Parish church set out and seized Ambrose Barlow from Morley's Hall, who is not Saint Ambrose Barlow to which the RC church in Astley is dedicated. Parsonage Colliery, part of the Parsonage, Bikershaw and Golborne complex, was the deepest coal mine in the country.
Nice one me young pal. Good to see that there are still younger fellas taking an interest in our local heritage.
Thanks paul. :)
Nice to see my hometown gettin some exposure and some great info on the buildings and history
Another great video .i went to leigh college in the 70s as an apprintice at David Brown tractors.

Also, what is that song at 11:54? It's very, very good but I cannot find it on your website and would love to buy it or the album containing it!

Subbed. That cycle path in Leigh looks epic. I'm on that!!!
Very watchable and easy to listen too - thx

Belting video! Keep it up 🎉

Aww man, I loved this.

Sky Bar was awesome especially for the football for me, 3 massive screens and you could fit loads in for a great atmosphere, miss that place
Saw the England 5, Germany 1 match there.😀
Another great video Kieran, local known locations and routes that I will be trying with the added history to go with it. Keep up the good work 👍😊🚲
Nice video, we ride this loop quite often- park at car park in Monton old loop line to Leigh and back down canal. Enjoy your local knowledge 👍🏻
It is a good loop :)
enjoyed that a lot, thank you,
Great video Kieran! Keep up the brilliant work! 😀😀😀
Awesome content buddy

Didn't know it was there until I was there. :)
Great Bimble Keiran.. pass the museum when off to Astley Crossing... Always wondered where the canal took you too...cheers.!!

Lancashire County Palatine still exists Leigh is in Lancashire, Greater Manchester is an administrative body.
Good bimbleage there. Must have got close to the Pennington Marina or is the other side of Leigh ??? I should know eh ???
That's to the west. We were in the east in this one. I'll be back. Leigh has loads of history and Mills and things.
Bimbleage!!! Lol! Kieran is a great bimbligeager!
My cousin went to Leigh College in the early 90s studying music!
Shame that the boundaries changed everything. I still consider myself from Lancs😊
When you were talking about the collieries, you were literally on/very near the site of Mosley Common colliery, but didn’t get a mention.
Mosley Common pit is mentioned just after 17:25
You could of cycled along the canal to Leigh. (edit) I see you did partially by going back to the museum.
It would have been quite a short boring video if i just went directly into Leigh. The whole idea is to go and see things and talk about them.
You planning on doing a video in St Helens?
I did one to the dream if you look. But yes eventually if sonetging interests me. :)
Do you record any of these routes on Strava or Garmin so that others can ride the same route?
I grew up in Golborne [ Barton St ] l live in Ramsgate in Kent now that was 45 years ago doesn't time fly
Any free computers going?
It should have stayed Lancashire
I live in leigh and I chuckled to myself when you said you were going to leigh to cheer yourself up.theres nothing here it's a shit hole😊
You must know Steve Oates? I had just finished there when 9/11 happened.
Are you joking look at wigan now it's fooked wait in till they build the flats in wigan town centre 😂
I'm not sure what this regards.
Don't rember the guns and ammo shop
It was on Railway Road, on the opposite side to the college. A bit further up towards the post office.
On that route, they have chopped down all of the tree's and greenery , making the scenery wide open & boring WHY ?
