My Security 9 went back to Ruger for repairs after a couple of months and about 2000 rounds of various ammo (no +P) fired through it. It had a broken firing pin and a broken hammer. After it came back, I shot about 400 rounds and had to send it back: broken firing pin again (titanium, no less). I was told it also had excessive polishing on the slides (?). Ruger decided to destroy the pistol, retire its serial number, and send me a replacement, which has worked well so far. Ruger customer service is superb.

As far as I can find out the Security 9 name is because this is meant to be an affordable quality duty pistol in the same way the Security 6 revolver was meant to be back in the day. My standard for 25+ years has been a Beretta 92FS. For many reasons this was the first pistol I have handled that I ever thought might replace my 92FS. Not been a fan of Glock since they came out. Just a matter of personal preference.
I reviewed this gun and liked it very much. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one comparing it to the Glock 19. I think it's a good competitor for that market.
This is the first gun I ever purchased two years ago and I absolutely love the pistol. I had some upgrades put on such as fiber optic front and rear sights, a low profile flat faced aluminum trigger, talon slide and hand grips, as well as a trigger finger index point on the side. It is a fantastic high value pistol that in my honest opinion is ideal for a first time gun owner for home defense or conceal carry. The pistol is actually fairly light and has a very thin profile on the handle so it’s really easy to get a really solid grip on the gun. Couldn’t be happier for a first time pistol
Took mine to the range and it shot left out of the box. After minor adjustment to the rear sight I was shooting very tight groups with it. Really liking the gun. Fits well in my hand trigger was good and not one hiccup. Money well spent. Oh and my Trl-1 Fits nicely on it.

Supposedly it's for increase the accuracy. It locks it in and a little tighter when you're shooting it and extend it out and then when it kills back or when it goes back forward and tightens everything up again. I'm just relaying what I got remember who brought that up? Might have been Hickok but I got to be wrong. Actually I think it's kind of neat. It looks like a little cannon barrel. I don't know what you're going to get there because this is an older video for you. Have a good day!
As an under 300.00 firearm. I find it a lot better than most out there. Kel Tek, S&W Ve series etc. I had one. I traded a friend of mine the Security 9, a LCP 2 and another gun for a Glock 19 gen 4 with all the additions.
Thanks. Good to see you all back in the swing of things. Moving is taxing on everybody. Intetesting personal experience. A few years ago I decided to get an SR9 or SR40 full size but honestly prefered the M&P....so that is what I bought & carried. However, when American was introduced, I purchased the full size 9 immediately and the compact 9 as soon as it was released. I have no regrets. A young family member was considering the Security 9 for their first ccw. After handling it at the gun shop, they opted to wait till they could get the American Compact. The American is that much better at an extra $150 for some folk. A comparison video would be interesting.
The size, the trigger action, and price makes this seem like a close comparison to the Walther Creed. Although it sounds like the Creed may have a better trigger. But both are full sized with a semi cocked hammer at a budget price.
Security 9 has a great trigger. Very crisp clean break. Better than any glock trigger. The reset is long. Pretty much all the way out but I dont ride the reset anyway.
I have a Security 9 pistol and have run 800 rounds through it without one hiccup. As for the thumb safety, there is no way it will ever engage by accident. The design is such that it engages with some difficulty, but disengages easily when needed. As much as I have tried to engage the safety with my shooting thumb, at least on my gun, it is impossible to do. Therefore, I would say if you don't like a thumb safety, don't use it. Simple. Also, SR9 magazines will work in this pistol if you make a cut on the right side matching the Security 9 cut. I have altered 4 magazines and all perform 100%.
I've got the Security 9 and find the trigger okay. The thing I didn't care for is the Glock type sights. I swapped em out with the HiViz pipe sights and that really tightened up the groups.
I personally wont own another GLOCK i have several Rugers from the P89,P90,American .45 security 9 and a few S&W’s i tried Glocks just didn’t care for them i think youre paying more for the name than the quality and Ruger is made in Prescott Arizona and Iva had some minor issues with my P90 i took to them they fixed at no charge even though ive had it over 10 years great service
Well I'm a first time hand gun owner and I insisted on a Ruger. So here's my review. I fired my 1st 200 rounds no problems. I went fired another 265 rounds and stove piped once. Its New I think break in time is needed. and bought another 200 rounds and it started to stove pipe on me a couple more times.. But one of the boxes was 147gr I had been firing 115gr with no issues. So then I went ahead and cleaned with CLR as directed by range master and using minimal oil on slide and barrel. Went back and fired 130 rounds and it stove piped 3 more times and the slide stuck or jammed once. Now I'm a Newbee ,I ask the range master is it me or the gun . He said it could be the ejector .I recoil with my arms not my wrist. And use the right ammo, how bout how I cleaned my weapon.. nope we went over cleaning procedures. So just to MAKE SURE I fire another 105 rounds to make it a even 900 rounds. With a magazine jam up and more stove piped rounds. So NOW I'M WORRIED..Did I get a lemon or wtf is going on. I call the place where I bought it from the same place I've gone to for 20yrs . They said bring it in we are sending it back with no charge.. So it's been 2 weeks and I've tracked it, it's due back tomorrow on 11/23/18 day after Thanksgiving. When I get back from the range,I will then give you the reason, and the full rundown of what has malfunctioned or I'll know if it's me for SURE by tomorrow. Thanks for the awesome video. Give me your feed back if any .Thanks Newbee. This is the first part.
That narrow notch / groove at the muzzle of the barrel.... the Kel-Tec 3AT have that too. i am assuming its so there is no rubbing of that area of the barrel with the inner surface of the slide / barrel port hole in the front of the side that the barrel protrudes out of when the barrel stops and recess it reward travel so its rear tilts down to un-lock from the slide. Not Sure. I think you mean full Slide rail and not guide rod. Rifles like Styer AUG , SA 80 , AR-180, Tec 9 etc where the bolt / bolt carrier reciprocates on these guide rods. The handgun autos is guide rail. Just saying.

@@saltyp7573 Got the one with the Lazer. Awsome gun great shooter and my conceal carry gun not sure if I would have got the laser if i bought it again but they have their uses.
@@ralphdwomeldorf nice ty. I should be getting my CCW license in a few day's. I plan on getting the security 9 with viridian laser, and maybe even the PC carbine that goes with it. 👍😎
Totally love mine. Durable and well balanced.
Not sure why they put a plastic guide rod in this pistol. I upgraded mine to stainless. I noticed a difference when shooting.
Can you explain the difference? Did you put a new spring in to?
Supposedly it's for increase the accuracy. It locks it in and a little tighter when you're shooting it and extend it out and then when it kills back or when it goes back forward and tightens everything up again. I'm just relaying what I got remember who brought that up? Might have been Hickok but I got to be wrong. Actually I think it's kind of neat. It looks like a little cannon barrel. I don't know what you're going to get there because this is an older video for you. Have a good day!
It has a nice balance and the trigger isn't that bad. Swap out the sights for NS and you're set
I’ve put thousands of rounds through it with no problems at all. As long as you keep it clean it will never jam.
I love this gun...great value for sure but the quality is excellent.
Picking one up next week! adding to the collection. Thanks Heg!
Security 9 Pro, it removes all of the "safeties" and adds functionality such as steel tritium night sights and extra magazines Etc
It removes all the safeties. All 2? Including the trigger safety? Last I checked it still had that.
As an under 300.00 firearm. I find it a lot better than most out there. Kel Tek, S&W Ve series etc. I had one. I traded a friend of mine the Security 9, a LCP 2 and another gun for a Glock 19 gen 4 with all the additions.
Security is a historically significant name for ruger somehow, kinda like s&w with their m&p line
Ruger does a great job of building value pistols.
Excellent video. You covered everything I wanted to hear. Very thorough. Liked and subscribed.
I too have both Ruger Americans.... love em. A comparison vid would be nice.
I just put one in lay-away today! Nice gun! (When I say that...i mean a Security 9...not a Glock)
Funny my Glock Gen 4, 31 came with plastic guide rod but this thing has a steel one.
Got the full size for my car and now ordering the compact to carry in my shoe.
I'm sick of people compare other guns to Glock to me Glocks suck...
Dale Maus he told you why
Glock is the standard by all other guns are measured. Rugers are value guns.
@@AxolotlQueen75 but my opinion is Glock suck they're just cheap guns at people hyped up.
Saying “To me glocks suck” with no reasoning shows you probably know nothing about guns nor own any...
@@dalemaus7189 You obviously know nothing about handguns, go away.
Hit a target 5 yards in high wind a thin branch with cheap full metal jacket ammo great gun!
I bought this gun about 3 weeks ago. Haven't had the time to shoot it. But so far I'm loving the video I've seen. Thanks
The size, the trigger action, and price makes this seem like a close comparison to the Walther Creed. Although it sounds like the Creed may have a better trigger.
But both are full sized with a semi cocked hammer at a budget price.
I prefer ruger because it creates usa jobs
Security 9 has a great trigger. Very crisp clean break. Better than any glock trigger. The reset is long. Pretty much all the way out but I dont ride the reset anyway.
Just bought one last week!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Polymer guide rod and they call the barrel dip a built in barrel bushing. You're welcome😊
Just bought one! Its a great gun!
Just fyi, you can use the notch on top of magazine to remove barrel pin
I have a Security 9 pistol and have run 800 rounds through it without one hiccup. As for the thumb safety, there is no way it will ever engage by accident. The design is such that it engages with some difficulty, but disengages easily when needed. As much as I have tried to engage the safety with my shooting thumb, at least on my gun, it is impossible to do. Therefore, I would say if you don't like a thumb safety, don't use it. Simple. Also, SR9 magazines will work in this pistol if you make a cut on the right side matching the Security 9 cut. I have altered 4 magazines and all perform 100%.
Thanks for the tip about the SR9 mags.
Or is the Glock 19 an overpriced Security 9 just saying?
I've got the Security 9 and find the trigger okay. The thing I didn't care for is the Glock type sights.
I swapped em out with the HiViz pipe sights and that really tightened up the groups.
Just got mine! Love it.
I think they named it Security 9 to pay Homage to it's well loved Security 6.
I just bought the security 9 2 days ago for $ 265.00
I have one,works very well,,mine loves 147 ammo,,super accurate,,squeeze the trigger
Barrel is drop safe and has a crown in the front so it doesn't mess up the barrel
It helps to lock everything in place it acts as seal for slide.
KelTek P11 has a barrel like the Ruger.
How did it go? Any luck?
