    Tear down is "tool less" in a sense. There's a cut out on the mag to remove the pin.

  • @johnhouston529
    @johnhouston529 3 года назад +8

    And yes, if you load the mag with some force it will trigger the slide release, in a sort of "auto forward" action.

    It's not a slide release according to the Ruger manual, it is a slide stop. However, i sent mine to Ruger for another issue and when it came back it works perfectly as a slide release now.

    Walked into Rural King last Friday to buy dog food and thought I'd check stock in the gun dept. Walked out about 25 minutes later with a new Ruger Security 9 ($299.99) $317.99 including 6% state sales tax. Didn't have time to go to the range this weekend and the local range is close on Mon & Tue, so I'll go put about 150 through it Wed evening. I've been told the slide release loosens up after some use, but it does need to be a little bigger.

    • @RequisiteFunction
      @RequisiteFunction 4 месяца назад

      I know this is old, but how did it go with your ejector repair?
      I had a similar problem. They replaced the extractor. I compared it with the old one, but there was no difference. Not a measurable one.
      I tried the repaired firearm out, but i still had the extraction problem every 7 or 8 shots.
      I reread the letter, and noticed they fired 50 rounds of a certain ammo without issue.
      So, I changed ammo and size. I did not get the same brand, but I did get a better brand, and used 124 instead of 115 grain.
      Everyone wants the 115 because it's cheaper and usually more available, and maybe they think it is more accurate cuz it's like 50 fps faster.
      But the 124g worked better. I shot about 1k rounds with the 124, with no issues.
      After that, I assume it was "broken in" (124 has a bit more kick than 115, contrary to what a lot of people say), I was able to fire 500 rounds of 115 without issue.
      I was using S&B and Blaser, your mileage may vary.
      The bullets grouped the same with both the 115 and 124, but the groups were in slightly different spots. 80% of that variation was probably me.
      I did not have any issues with the Sec 9 again, until I used Freedom Arms ammo.
      I think any minuscule irregularities in case or rim dimensions will cause that "stuck empty" problem.
      I had every 7 shots get "stuck" again, and there was also a noticeable difference in recoil from one shot to the next.
      Needless to say, those groups sucked.
      I cleaned the gun out and went back to S&B ammo.
      I can't believe bad ammo still exists in this day and age, but here we are.
      Stay away from Armscore as well, unless you're going to use it in a rifle.
      Had two boxes of Armscore .38s
      20 rounds didn't fire in a revolver. Thats a 20% failure rate.
      Dealer said the Armscore primer cups are irregularly hard, so some handguns won't ignite them, but then went on to say "but it's good for range ammo".
      No sir, it is not. Forget about the psychological stress of removing "almost fired" bullets from your gun with your fingernails, but why would you practice with bullets you could never actually use in a life or death situation?
      I know people don't always target practice with defensive ammo, but you should be able to pick up your gun and use it to defend yourself, even if it still had "range ammo" in it.
      The bullets did eventually work flawlessly in a rifle, as he also stated they would (due to more progressive springs in rifles) but that's besides the point.
      Long story short, for anyone having an extractor problem off the bat, get better ammo and try 124g for a box or two. And don't buy Armscore or Freedom ammo for your handguns.

    Many of the Ruger newer models (post P series) have a SLIDE LOCK ONLY!. The reason is with such high spring tension to make sure the round goes into battery, you use full slide inertia by pulling it back and releasing it. Ruger needs to print a warning in big red letters not to use the slide lock as a release.
