  • In this episode of Cities Skylines 2, we’re diving back into Circle City, a unique city with roads that run in perfect concentric rings. As the city grows and hits higher population milestones, managing the traffic flow and maintaining the simulation speed becomes increasingly challenging. I’m working through these issues today as Circle City’s frame rate starts to take a hit.
We start by addressing some serious traffic problems, tweaking intersections, and managing lane configurations to keep things moving. With the city’s population still climbing, the pressure is on to figure out how to keep everything running smoothly in Cities Skylines 2 without bringing the simulation to a crawl. Will upgrading key roads and removing unnecessary traffic lights be enough to fix the gridlock?
As we push towards our goal of reaching half a million population in Cities Skylines 2, Circle City is feeling the strain. The roads are packed, public transportation is struggling to keep up, and some of the city’s services are stretched thin. I explore different solutions, like expanding bus lines and adjusting lane priorities, but there’s only so much I can do before the limitations of the game become apparent.
In a city designed with circular streets, unique problems arise. From balancing the needs of residential, commercial, and industrial zones to keeping garbage collection efficient, every decision impacts how smoothly Circle City runs. Today, I focus on filling in more zones while managing power distribution to keep up with the growing demand.
Speaking of power, the city’s grid is under stress as more buildings pop up. I’m adding transformer stations and tweaking power lines to stabilize the supply, but will it be enough? I also notice some new bottlenecks in our high-density areas and work to unclog these trouble spots by optimizing road layouts.
While there’s no shortage of challenges, the city’s growth is still strong. Residential zones are in demand, but maintaining a balance between expanding homes and ensuring access to jobs and services is key. I’m placing more schools to meet the education needs of a growing population, but there’s a lot of work to be done.
One of the more unique aspects of Circle City is how you can always spot its circular layout from any point on the map. As we zoom out, the full scale of this city in Cities Skylines 2 becomes clear. It’s a fascinating contrast between the tight-knit neighborhoods and the sprawling outskirts, all shaped by the ring roads that define this city’s design.
Traffic management remains a core focus in this episode as I continue fine-tuning roads and intersections to handle the city’s growth. In Cities Skylines 2, these small tweaks can have a big impact on how smoothly the simulation runs. I’m experimenting with different setups, but some problems are just unavoidable as we push the limits of the game.
As winter drags on in Circle City, the mix of snow-covered streets and bustling city life creates some cool visual moments. I’m considering turning the time forward to get back to spring, but for now, we’re dealing with the challenges that come with dark winter days. With everything covered in snow, spotting issues in our zones becomes even trickier.
It’s been a long journey building Circle City in Cities Skylines 2, and as we inch closer to that half-million milestone, I’m constantly revisiting old areas to optimize them for better performance. In today’s episode, we also discuss future plans, including possibly running a time-lapse episode to see how the city evolves over a few in-game years.
With more zoning and infrastructure projects ahead, Circle City still has a lot of potential for growth. As long as the game holds up, we’ll keep expanding this unique circular city and see just how big we can make it. Stick around as we explore new ideas and tackle the problems that come with managing a city this complex in Cities Skylines 2.
If you’ve enjoyed this journey so far, don’t forget to hit that thumbs-up button and leave a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how Circle City is evolving and any suggestions you have for future episodes. Also, make sure you’re subscribed with notifications turned on so you don’t miss any new updates as we continue building this massive circular city.
