For starters the CR-V averages like 35 mpg and both the Rover and the Caddy are probably going to get like 14 mpg (more than likely Premium fuel) downhill with the wind. And the CR-V is going to have a WARRANTY. And what are the odds you own a Rover for three years and nothing breaks? Not to mention the resale on an even three year older Rover with like 75k is going to be a hard sell. @@LukeEdward

Generally speaking, rich people buy (or lease) these cars brand new and keep them for 3-5 years. Average people then scoop them up used at a fraction of their original cost, inheriting all the reliability issues and high maintenance cost. About 10 years into the life of these vehicles, poor people then buy them at basement-bottom prices at used car lots that also sell $2,000 Kia's. Come to find out, they are now spending thousands of dollars in repair bills that they can barely manage in order to finance a certain image and lifestyle that they cannot afford.

We have both the Escalade and Range Rover Sport in our collection. The other vehicles are Tahoe with 200k as my wife’s daily driver, jeep compus for our daughter, 2018 and 2023 tundra’s. Oh 68 RS Camaro for my inner youth. As this video demonstrates they are two different vehicles and have their own unique features. Both are fast but in their own way are most unlike each other. For short 1-2 hour drives the Range Rover is our go to, longer the 1 hour the Escalade is our go to. More than 5 passengers, Escalade is our favorite for overall space. Another item which is important to me is the view, the Escalade is taller which means better forward view to see over other vehicles in traffic conditions. We have been fortunate with our Range Rover since 2019 with around 36k miles and only issue was smog related costing us 3k. The Escalade since 2011 with 102k miles and has been flawless, no issues report. I’ve swapped the Escalade rotors with cross drilled and slotted rotors for better performance. The Range Rover is slightly faster and more fuel efficient than the Escalade at 17 avg for Range Rover verse 13 avg in the Escalade. Wife like how nimble the Range Rover is navigate in parking garages verse the Escalade.

Lexus LX570 is the best used SUV you can buy. They are a little cheaper than their Land Cruiser variants just because people like saying they have a Land Cruiser. For around $50K you can get a pre 2016 model with ultra low miles. 2016+ are hideous outside but have a nicer interior. The parts on it are designed to go 300K miles in poor conditions using low quality fuel and oil. It will last longer than the owner. Values will stay high and it might even appreciate in value once the government bans all V8 engines in any vehicle that costs less than $200K new.

I don’t get the hate. The Range Rover reliability issues are known. No one is making you buy one. Like Roman says, you’re rolling the dice but you’ve got a sweet ride in the meantime

Wish you would have shown the RR cargo space. It is truly amazing that Caddy can include automatic cruise control but RR, BMW, et al have that as a pricey option even to this day. My Jeep grand Cherokee limited rental car has ACC as does a Kia Telluride, yet a BMW X5 doesn’t unless you pony up for the driving assistant pro. Boo.

Had a 2018 Escalade Platinum. Bought it used 3 years ago. Sold it to a dealer for 41k with I think 56,000 miles. Got it with 39k miles. Paid 60k for it loaded. I'd say if you bought it new you dropped your pants. I get it a few months into COVID so the prices hadn't spiked yet. Got out at the right time. Paid it off a few months before selling it. Only issue was AC system failed 3 times. Would've kept it but the horror stories about the cylinder deactivation failing scared me off. Think the dealer still sold it for 50k. Miss it slightly but EV and no gas or maintenance has been a way better trade-off

Tommy, you are correct that the RR will protect you in the worst conditions up until the point that it breaks down when you need it most for the most minor thing. In that case, you’ll probably freeze to death on the side of the road.

I'm glad car, SUV and truck prices are tanking. Too many greedy dealerships in the COVID era that sold these things for insane prices and dumb customers buying them which priced many people out of the market for a sensible new or used car. A lot of people are saddled with a massive car payment plus their vehicle is worth less than the payment. They deserve that.

@2:05, the CRV and Rav4 were never in a direct competition class with either this LR-RR or Escalade ESV.

How about a 2022ish Acura MDX if the new CRV is too small of an SUV? The TATA/Jaguar is deemed unreliable. The Caddy is kind of weak in longevity. Personally, I prefer sedans. You can always put winter tires on them and add a roof rack or capsule when you need to haul gear.

The Range Rover will cost a fortune to repair and maintain Suspension and head gaskets come to mind The Escalade ( and its GM sister platforms) have class action lawsuits on both the transmission and displacement on demand engine system. The Magnetic ride control will also give you issues.
So..yes, easy to understand why they have depreciated so much

Stuff will break..that’s a fact…but boy there is a lot of stuff! I would suggest that maintenance issues will become a reality..with something coming up every 2 months or so. Some, you will decide you can live with..and some you won’t be able to ignore…and which will probably be at least a $750 dollar fix each time on the average. So if you can live with a $4500 annual cost of ownership..then these are a decent choice for you. But for $375 / month..you can go out there, add this amount to your budgeted monthly car payment and also get yourself something a little more special.

Don’t both of them have really subpar reliability? The repair cost is probably not cheap and with the amount of electronics and systems in these vehicles I imagine the service visits would be extremely high. I’ve never been into labels so neither of the names ring out to me. I couldn’t see myself buying either of these new or used. I really like the detailed comparison though 🍻
