Great reaction and analysis. There is something so pure about being a kid, singing a song in blue jeans with a cell phone in their lap.
First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at any age is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances.
I have always loved the raw beauty of these performances with Egil, so simple but utterly captivating. Her phrasing and pace is so beautiful, in stark contrast to the rush that many make in their performances.
Simple, raw and organic ! Just voice and guitar true to the original ! Angelina kept this one straightforward and uncomplicated as can be ! I agree the sound quality was not studio enhanced but non the less Angelina delivers a nice performance! She amazes me every time at how she can read the lyrics from her tablet and then emote such vocals with emotional quality ! This was probably done in one take ! Thanks again Nina for your wonderful commentary and analysis as they are so much appreciated ! I'm so happy that Angelina has the support of a really expert vocal analyst ! Having the best of everyone around her from family, recording management , musicians and wonderful support from the You Tube channel will only enhance this talented artist's career ! You got it right Nina this, like all of her home recordings with Egil Clausen (age 8-11) in Norway or Ivan Mendez (age 12) in LA, they are all un-planned, un-rehearsed "raw" jams. Usually only one take while reading the lyrics. This info comes from interviews of the guitarists by Alan Papier on his YT Channel. These "on the fly" performances have prepared her for her live concerts where she makes choices on the spot with ad-libs wherever she feels they are needed. I think that's why everyone thinks she is better live than in a studio setting.

Angelina was not familiar with the lyrics, hence reading from her phone, so we got Wise When rather than Wise men in the opening phrase. Egil, on guitar, doing a great job. This must have been the first take, otherwise she would have corrected her mistake! Clearly she enjoyed singing this, adding the song to the album It's Magic - with the military band later that year.
Angelina has the ability to interpret a song on the fly - giving us these unforgettable renditions that grab our attention and pull out our emotions...

Hi Nina 👋. Love your reaction to 11 Angelina. Love it when you get nerdy with analyzing her. Believe it or not, most of her covers are spur of the moment stuff. Is what her guitarist have said. Agree with your comments 👍. There's so many songs we would love for Angelina to cover like "Amazing Grace", "Hallelujah song", "Landslide" by Stevie Nicks, "Grace like rain" by Todd Agnew, even "Never my love" by the Association. Would love to hear her textures and what she would with the songs 🎵 . Angelina has done this Elvis a few times and all different. If you really want something different from her react,to her singing "How great thou art" at 12 and in the key Elvis sang is straight through. Also one of her masterpieces "Holding out for you" she did as a demo when she was 10. Also these 2 songs written for Angelina. "Above the water" that TRXD wrote for her and she recorded the song at a late 13 and was released when she has just turned 14. Also "Song for A" by Nico Cartosio who wrote this classical poetry song for her for his "Melting" album. She recorded it for him when she was 12 turning 13❤. Nina, in this same atmosphere and with Egil accompaniment, Angelina performs THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE. She does it such great tenderness and understanding that's mind-blowing for a child. Also has a much better audio quality.
As far as a cover I want to hear Angelina do? there are many but I will break it down to two. The Carol King written, Righteous Brothers performed, JUST ONCE IN MY LIFE, would fit right in her tone wheelhouse. And the INXS song DON'T TEAR US APART. Angelina's style would add perfect emotion to that song. Love your reactions Nina!
Often, when Angelina sings, she somehow makes it seem like she is singing to _me_. And you, Nina, as a reactor, somehow do the same thing. You make it feel like you are talking to each individual listener in your invisible audience. 💗

As usual, great observations and commentary about such a simple yet emotive performance. The one song I'd LOVE to hear Angelina cover would be "River" by Joni Mitchell. In fact, I left that suggestion on her website awhile back. Speaking of Angelina's range and versatility, check out her cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"!
After Summertime in the NGT finale, one of the judges commented that although her talent was "a gift from the universe" she had no obligation to give us anything, and advised her, "Don't think, just sing". I think she loves to do these off-the-cuff renditions of songs that are probably first (and last) takes. All those with Egil Claussen are like that and are some of her most beautiful performances as a result. It's like a personal gift from her to us. As for a single song for her to cover? I'd love for her to sing Over the Rainbow. I know, it's so iconic it's almost corny, but the big challenge is - can she make it new again? Can she go up against Judy Garland and win? If anyone can, she can.

Nina, she didn't run out of breath. The pause was intentional. Nina, you can tell me I have no idea what I'm talking about and that is fine because I really don't. I'm only relaying messages from other musical people who have listened to her many, many times and have come to realize EVERYTHING she does is INTENTIONAL. Her storytelling style toward the end of the song made us feel every word. Every word had a meaning and if you watched the guitar player he had to wait for her to get her message across the way she wanted. And, it's crazy, she was 11 doing this!

May be you can check the description: You will notice, that YT add info to music that YT can recognize in the video, BUT it put the info for your background music in the description. And that means, that this artist will receive fees from the advertising revenue from YT and not Angelina Jordan.
Later on you could may be use some official songs from AJ as background music like "Million Miles" or "Love Don't Let Me Go" so that the fees will payed to her instead ;-)
And/Or you can add the link to the song you reacted to and and may be also to her web-site, YT channels,... in the description. Some other reactors even ask the people to watch the original video too and like it too for to support Angelina - you know: Because of the algorythm...

How can she put so much emotion into this song? Angelina's phrasing and subtle ornamentations, along with her amazing breath control and mastery of timbres, imbue this performance with a depth I rarely find in a vocal. Great reaction and insights, Nina! I love your analysis! Did you know that Angelina collaborated with a production company called TRXD for an EDM song called Above The Water? Nina, you are one of the premier reactors on YT. The toughest part of going down the AJ rabbit hole is knowing which songs to play. AJ has so many top tier songs that its nearly impossible to choose. Believe it or not, this song doesnt crack my top 30. The start of a journey into a newer artist needs more songs with the WOW factor. Songs that defy explanation. Your next song with AJ MUST be "I'm Still Holding Out For You"....its a demo she did for Baby Fuzz when she was 10 years old. There is no other artist at age 10 that could have done a better job. Hogwash! It's because this song is so good, it would have put AJ on the global stage several years earlier than they planned. There are masterpieces, and then there are MASTERPIECES. Having listened to most if not all of her songs my favorite AJ song remains Mary's Boy Child.

Along the lines of covering a rock song ... she never shies away from covering the most iconic songs and giving her own, often stunning and new arrangement - so how about THE iconic classic rock song Stairway to Heaven? I can't even begin to imagine how she would cover it - but believe it would be great if she ever did it. And the symbolism in the title fits perfectly with the imagery she wrote about shortly after meeting the 6yo orphan to whom she gave her shoes. She used the same imagery in her original song Million Miles - including in one of the videos where she and/or her Grandma included their own animated drawings. Angelina seems particularly drawn to moon/stars/heaven symbols, e.g., her most performed song Fly Me to The Moon.

These are perhaps odd but I would love to here AJ cover Karen Carpenter's "Merry Christmas Darling" and the Muppets' "Rainbow Connection". There are dozens of these lets just try it performances with her LA Califorina and Norway guitarist (mostly ages 10-12). They're all done in one take (unless the guitarist) made a mistake. Many of them she is reading lyrics of a phone, ipad, or computer on screen or just off screen. For many of them she is rearranging them at the same time she is singing them live altering them from the original without missing a note. Oh an your amazing:)
Yes, Angelina gives us what she’s feeling at the moment, and the next time that same song may be different. She’s a jazz singer in her bones, and that extemporaneous quality is evident in many genres.
Somehow, I had never seen before this live video of her singing the Etta James classic, At Last, at an outdoor jazz festival. She’s covered At Last many times, but I just love this take. Watch an 8 (or 9?) year old give us extemporaneous jazz so beautifully, so genuinely. At this age, her vocal skills aren’t perfect, but the jazz pours out of her so authentically. I would really like to hear Angelina cover a rock song without rearranging it into a jazz or pop song. She gave a little taste of this with "The Show Must Go On" when she was younger but that's not really a typical rock song. I think the same textured and raspy qualities of her voice could be employed to produce a perfect rock sound. Perhaps a song like Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine."

Nina, please react to Sissel. The best crossover mezzo-soprano in a generation. Or two. She covered this song when she was about this age and it was ten times better! React to Sissel Kyrkjebø & Jose Carreras - Quando Sento che Mi Ami or Sissel Kyrkjebø: "My Tribute" ("To God be the Glory") - 09.11.13 or perhaps a FLAWLESS operatic aria Sissel - O Mio Babbino Caro.
That is what makes young Angelina special. The emotion, not the vocal acrobatics. Those are so boring, OK to be impressed by once, but of no value over time.
😊geez a single song? Yikes. So I guess a classic that isn't in her wheelhouse that she flips on it's head probably then? I think "Zombie" by The Cranberries maybe then. So odd, perfect, powerful, beautiful, emotional. Not at all up her ally and untouchable, no way for anyone to reimagine it. So perfect for her then. Something no one else could dare flip on it's head, nor pull it off, and make it an entirely new entity no one even thinks to compare.
I must admit to being worried when I saw that Angelina had done a version of this song.
My worry was not with her singing but that she may have been doing the absolutely dreadful Tommee Profitt mutilation which some singers have chosen to do.
