Apparently nobody realizes there is a phone number (blue sign) at every crossing with a code for that crossing. Call the railroad, give them the code, and the train will stop (if its far enough out when notified).
Likely $70K - $85K for the limo. The crossing gate around $100K. The limo company would be found liable, so their insurance would have to pay for the damages.
You’re right, they don’t go into emergency until after impact. This reason for this is because there is a chance of derailment when going into emergency from the slack bunching up. If the car miraculously moved out of the way and the engineer had dumped the air and the train derailed they will be in deep doo doo.
@@dalelanham1929 So the engineer can't apply brakes at all without them being either 0% or 100%? seems abit flawed... like surely he could have atleast slowed down a little.
@@d4rkhound388 No, you can apply them in graduation. The issue is that being a pneumatic brake, the 'command' goes from car-to-car in sequence. Even with a full service reduction, by the time the valves on the cars start activating, you've already struck the vehicle. Train brakes are designed for controlled train handling...which they are very effective at doing. Not making split second stops. The engineer probably started braking when he came around the curve to keep the train stretched and start the brakes applying on the cars, then swung it into emergency after the impact. That way, they don't have that instant emergency brake application which could jackknife cars.
@@dalelanham1929 you have no clue. You realize that if a train separates, the emergency brake automatically activates right? I have no doubt the engineer activated the brake before reaching the crossing, it just takes time for enough air to deplete before you hear all that noise.
Lol waving the red flag...... right next to the obstruction. Buddy should have gotten a ride a ways up the track to wave his flag if he really wanted to help.
Priceless waving down the engineer, you realize the train needs a mile to stop
