Why would you call this dude names? Just remember something, Austin Trains did what any honorable person would have done. He saved the police & NTSB from many hours of trying to figure out what went wrong. There is a difference between right & wrong & making a mistake & when someone has clear proof of this , it is honorable to let others know of this proof so that we can all learn the truth about how mistakes cause accidents. We can learn from those mistakes. The truck driver make a judgement error & ended up on the tracks while the lights were flashing giving a warning that a train was coming. I do not know what the driver was thinking or doing, but he starts to cross the tracks while the lights are clearly flashing & the bells are sounding & the train s also blasting its horn, stops, & than starts backing up. He just wasn't fast enough in getting off the tracks. He needs to take responsibility for his mistake, learn from it, help pay for any damages, & move on.

ALWAYS!. barry. Even if train derails ( unlikely with these 195t locos) you still can't stop it. In Australia a truck went into the side of the 2nd loco ( 130t) of a freight train doing 70 MPH, train derails, & he ended up wearing the 3rd loco + a decent proportion of 40 or 50 odd freight cars. Took days to find his body.Train drivers OK, lead loco seperated & did not derail & in Melbourne twice at the same crossing a 21t tram & 30t tram collided with trucks that failed to give way. the trams derailed & won't be repaired ( older trams anyway) but no passenger seriously injured & both trucks lost their loads creating a sight to behold. Dozens of beer kegs, everywhere from one truck & soil from an overturned dump truck in the 2nd collision. Resault, about = (despite the lost loads dominating the scene) & these were only trams/trollys/streetcars hit by heavy trucks. AT LEAST THE BANDIT CAN DELIVER THE BEER WITHOUT SPILLING IT EVERYWHERE?

Pennsylvania towns like this are very complicated to drive through. This guy was in a day cab and he should’ve known that area very well. He probably drives it every week or more. I can almost guarantee he was simply in a big hurry and let this situation slip his judgment. I’m a driver of 20 years, it’s not if you fuck up it’s when. The trick is to mitigate the fuck ups and not run into trains.
Thanks for uploading and sharing this video, perfect timing for the clip. The trucker is very lucky someone shouted that warning, his Angels sure worked hard for him that day, it could have been a horrific incident, fast reaction by the emergency crews.

The driver claimed the crossings weren't working. What a LIAR!! By the sound of that truck's turbo spooling, he CLEARLY was trying to beat the train. Thankfully he came to his senses and stopped before getting T-Boned. What would've been about a 3 minute wait turned into several hours and a trip to the unemployment line, not to mention a fine and possibly jail time. Hopefully he reflects on his decision and learns from it.
TheHowardHomestead what are you talking about ? If he had been t-boned by that train that probably weighs thousands of tons, they would have selled whatever scraps there were left as souvenirs including the truck drivers skull, he wouldn’t have survived it
There will be no jail time for a simple traffic infraction. The ticket will be failure to obey traffic control device or how ever PA words it. Apparently the fine is $150 and carries no points.

I could tell the driver wasn't paying attention to the crossing, when he turned towards the road he was driving to, he saw the signal OR the train, he tried his best to back up but it was too late. Hello Austin, I just came across this video today even though it was shot 6 years ago. Nice videography and editing. You managed to tell the complete story and that is rare. Best regards, Steve
In a manned / signal-ed crossing like this one, there is absolutely no arguing. The train is never at fault. Also, large vehicle operators are generally told to stop at every train crossing (even when the lights are off).

That trucker may have saved his life by backing up a bit, so more of the semi didn't get hit! He still probably got fired though. Flashing red lights doesn't mean to try to cross, especially on blind curves. Someday, people may learn. NOT!
If you click Settings, then click slowest video speed, you can actually see the truck driver did start to reverse, but not enough time before the train arrived.

NEVER BEAT A TRAIN!!!!
Less the train may beat you ( closely followed by the owner of the truck) "er boss, got a bit of a problem,( I stopped for a bang)"
trains vs truck=trains always win
ALWAYS!.
Took days to find his body.Train drivers OK, lead loco seperated & did not derail
& in Melbourne twice at the same crossing a 21t tram & 30t tram collided with trucks that failed to give way. the trams derailed & won't be repaired ( older trams anyway) but no passenger seriously injured & both trucks lost their loads creating a sight to behold. Dozens of beer kegs, everywhere from one truck & soil from an overturned dump truck in the 2nd collision.
Resault, about = (despite the lost loads dominating the scene) & these were only trams/trollys/streetcars hit by heavy trucks.

If u drive on the tracks when there's a VISIBLE train ur asking for death.
Train wasn't visible to the trucker. It was in his blind spot. That said, the warning lights WERE going, and he didn't pay attention. My bus driver way back when used to stop before the tracks and open the door to listen, just to be dead certain there was no risk of an impact. That intersection looks like a nightmare though.
@@miraak542 There should be gates that lower when the train approaches. Would have prevented this accident and maybe more. Still his fault for missing the lights though.
@@my3dviews Did you see the intersection? It was way too wide for conventional barriers, not to mention it looked like at least a four way, with rather long angles on it. They'd need bollards to block off an intersection like that. Though, now that I've said that, that would be an amazing solution to this problem..
@@miraak542 It only looks wide because there is a parking lot next to it. It is a three way intersection, so would require three gates at the same locations as the crossing lights.
Pause it at 0:48 The truck is already past where the gate would be. It would only require a short gate from each direction. At 0:54 you can see where the second gate would be located. The third would be on the left side of the screen where the crossing lights are at 0:25
