I enjoy your hat videos very much, I thought as a suggestion, I repaired a friend's Resistall hat that he wore in the rain, it was pretty bad but using steam and stiffiner I was able to salvage it.

I like the hat you have on! Would you be willing to share any info on it?? It’s a nice subtle shape not quite a flat brim fedora and not too much denting on top

Yes this is an American 7x 4.5 in brim.
      Crown is a minnick shape.
Brim is 12” from corner to corner. Small dip and lightly brought up in the back.
Here is a link to how I do this exact style on another hat.

      Hope this helps!

Another awesome video! Thank you. Can you please do a video on how to trim the brim of a felt hat. I recently messed up when trimming a felt hat with the metal M&F hat trimmer almost near the end. I didn't keep the trimmer pressed against the brim enough so I slipped. I don't have a trimmer that you push against the crown to correct this mistake.

I have never trimmed the brim of a hat, but I have a couple that are ready for that. We will do a video as soon as we can covering this topic.

I have a 7x rodeo king, ive had it for about a year. Their is one spot of the hat where the crown crease is that keeps popping out no matter how much steam i use, or how long i hold it in the spot i want it. Do you know a way to fix this.

      I have a couple ideas.
One thought his that either the crown crease isn’t deep enough or the crown shape is not defined enough to hold.
Second, you may need to utilize a stiffener to keep the felt holding its true shape after you take it off the steam.
To be honest I would have to see what is going on to have a better idea of how to help.
Where exactly on the crown is it popping out? And what style of crown do you have?

@@StartupCowboy i have a shallow teardrop, the crease that is popping out is the left crease where you would grab it if your looking at the front of the hat. Ive tried making the crease deeper but it hasnt worked, ive thought about trying hat stiffner but havent used it yet.

Let me know how stiffening goes. I would recommend using a clear shellac spray that you can get at any hardware store or Walmart.

Is it possible to go from a Cattleman to a Gus with a straw hat? Something that a beginner could try?

    • @StartupCowboy
      @StartupCowboy  Год назад

Yes you can take a cattleman crown and turn it into a Gus. However some straw crowns are pressed in with heat and pressure which will make them hard to pop back out and reshape without the shadow of the old crown showing through.
My recommendation is to try to blend the two styles so that it looks more natural.
