Happy Hydroponicing!
Just a suggestion...The angled picket/stay will push further into the ground when you tension your wire or will lean over time. Hammer a short vertical picket where your picket meets the ground, wire it to where they meet and run a wire to bottom of the vertical post to complete the triangle.
This is correct! He's a done a great job but missing the crucial 45 degree picket braces at the end of the 45 angle stays which will stop his posts from leaning (which they are already). Otherwise he's done a great job, well done :)
Most underrated video on RUclips! Thanks heaps!
Great video with clear concise and easy to understand instructions. Thanks heaps !!!
Great video mate. First fence very successfully installed today, thanks to your clear instructions.
Hoocho, I am close to fitting gates - I see from the comments below that you do not have a video for that, but have some photos. Would you be able to send those to me, please? Cheers, Ryan
Great video !! Clear, direct and precise. Thanks for the info.
Just bought a property and am heading there this weekend to get a dog fence up so we can move in a few weeks time, thanks a lot very helpful
REALLY GREAT. THANKS !!! I tried to build a couple of star picket fences before & didnt realise where I went wrong unto now. Im about to build another much bigger one with more expensive mesh so I knew I'd mess that up too without guidance, so your clear detail helped me heaps !
😊
Hi, great vid. Any chance you could send a photo of how you attached your gates to the pickets please.
Awesome video. Thank you!
Outstanding video, thank you.
Built one today, sweet as thanks mate
Nice work, this helped me a lot
Nice one mate - have to repair a fence to keep the lawn mowers in and this will be a massive help.
Great video, just the info i needed thank you 💜🐎
I came I liked. Superb. Thanks mate.
Fantastic video, and i thought this would just be an hours work haha
Great video!
Thanks for sharing 🤙😎
Hey dude, just wanted to tell you I needed a fence and because of your vid I was able to build a mother fazuckin fence. Mad appreciation dude, wouldn't have known what the hell I was doing otherwise.
Now we’ve both got fences. How fazucking good 😂
Nice fence!
Awesome dude
Nice one....
That's a bloody ripper video! Thanks for sharing your wisdom, mate!
thanks mate!
really awesome video bro (:
i'm going to make a basic wire fence for some chickens and didn't even thing of putting one on an angle to help hold up the main pole! (: Thank you for making these videos
Hi Hoocho, Great video it's going to make my job much easier. Could I ask how you put the gates in. Cheers
Great video thank you. I'm going to use 2400 mm pickets, so I can run a couple of top wires. What length should the strainer pickets be?
So useful! Thank you!
Great vid thanks. Going to give this method ago this week. So you don't need to pull the dog mesh tight with a comalong etc?
I have the pickets and the dog fence but none of the other stuff, didn't know I needed it. Thanks for such a great video!!! Can you come to our place and put one up???
On my way.
Pretty clever idea with tying in two pickets together. Makes it a pretty cheap and easy option to keep dogs in/out or around the gardens instead of putting in strainers and stays. I'd probably tie the 45Deg picket towards the top though to stop the whole assembly flexing and moving too much.
Thanks. Great video. Very clear! I've got to put one of these up, so cheers - very helpful.
Its been awhile since you posted this and I had a few questions that I was hoping you could help with:
• What length of star pickets did you use and how far apart did you space them?
• How has the dog mesh held up and would you recommend the same brand? If so, can you recall what brand it was?
• I noticed that the larger gate/opening only had star pickets, rather than a hard wood strainer post. Can you confirm what kind of gates you used and how they've held up?
• Any things you'd do differently if you were doing it over?
Thanks again. In the interest of benefiting from practical learnings from your efforts, any response would be super helpful! 🙂
1200 pickets
Dog mesh and fence are going strong
Distance in video (can’t remember)
Gate was a standard vehicle width I attach with D bolts straight to the pickets.
I rarely use it.
If it were higher traffic I’d probably go something sturdier than the picket to attach it to.
No brand name on the mesh. Was from “the bunker” in Noosa.
Other than that.
Happy with the fence.
@@Hoocho Thanks so much. Love your work! 🙂
How high was your fence here? If I wanted a 1200mm high fence, how long would the star picket need to be? Also, what about an 1800mm high fence...?
You can get away with 5'6"/1650mm for intermediates in most soil types but use 2.1/2.4 for end strainers/corners.
Make sure you use upright pickets at the bottom of braces (author didn't) and an opposite wire twist brace.
Awsome job. Do you have a video or photo of the gate install?
I don’t have a video but I can send you a photo.
@@Hoocho that would be awsome if you could. Cheers
Sweet. Some form of contact and I’ll flick you some pics.
Hoocho I need to build a 6ft high fence to keep two big dogs in (they can jump over my 5 ft colorbond fence). Do star pickets come that big or do I need a different type of fence please? Also, they weigh 60 kg each. Do I need the star pickets closer together for extra strength?
Thank you
Doctor Boy Standard Star pickets come in heights of up to 2400mm and they’ll lose 600mm from driving them in.
You’ll probably have a hard time finding dog mesh that high too.
I’d suggest that colourbond you were talking about with a fence topper. To give it the extra height. I’m no fence expert. That’s just my opinion.
@@Hoocho Thank you. Much appreciated.
How deep do you ideally want the start pickets in the ground.
Down to the first hole.
How well dose the bottom wire work to stop dogs from pushing under the fence
turtleman cockatoo it’s not a silver bullet. But it makes them have to dig if they really want under.
thats fine my dogs dont dig but one of them will push under if the bottom isnt secure
How did you end up doing the gates?
Ashleigh Kay u bolts hanging the gate on the Star pickets
@@Hoocho man appreciate the quick response! So you just used a premade gate and attached it or another DIY job?
Yeah I made the gate width a standard size so I could just throw in a prefab gate.
