When I get a notification that nikateen has a new video game review you literally have to drop everything your doing to watch and don’t worry folks my kid gonna be fine
I’m shocked at the amount of wrestlers in this game and it’s pretty neat to see Guys like bam bam and Vader who weren’t in any of the US AKI games considering they floated around company to company right when these games came out in the US Also this means the first wrestling game on N64 and the last one both feature Andre the Giant, that’s sick!
@@dethlady0 The one about him being buried? I haven't watched it yet. I'm kind of delaying it because I lived through it and I still feel burnt. WWE used the Brothers of Destruction to bury both DDP and Kanyon as well as Kroni>| around the same time and I'm still quite not over it and probably never will be. Smark life?
Thanks for the review! I picked this up sometime last year after learning about the extensive roster. This truly IS the complete version of World Tour and so much more! The exclusion of Wrath and Glacier didn't really bug me since they weren't featured too prominently during the mid 90s. However, Jeff Farmer aka. NWO Sting missing was kind of a bummer since he was big in Japan, but assigning an NWO shirt to wcw Sting pretty much does the trick. I also found it strange that I couldn't assign Scott Norton an NWO shirt either, since World Tour did feature it, but these are truly minor inconveniences compared to what you're getting. Also, the black & white effect is most likely a tribute to Rikidozan's matches (aka. the godfather of Japanese pro wrestling). Re-creating his battles against The Destroyer are always fun.
I tend to binge watch your old reviews/wrestling talk videos and you upload a new video within a day or two. cool energy wavelength vibe thing or coincidence? I dunno. You're one of my favorite people to make gaming content on RUclips. Cheers! Hope you make more drum/music-related videos in the future
Yeah world tour should've at least had the legendary wrestlers we knew like Terry Funk, the Road Warriors, Ken Shamrock, Vader, and Andre the Giant among others alongside the roster it had
I heard about this game when I was older. And I went "that's pretty cool and would have loved to play it" I believe future VPW mimicked how wrestling was in Japan where even if a big move (or small) is preform the opponent might get up to perform their own big move causing both wrestlers to be on the matt. Also there might be a Playlist for the music on RUclips, not fully sure, I know there is one for WcW vs n.W.o Revenge and it is always nice to listen to.
Your channel intro is awesome. The music in VPW64 is really badass. The game and the sequel are really ahead of their time. The game looks so fun to play. Nice shoutout to Wrestling Video Games. I love his channel. Can't wait to see VPW 2. Its AJ Styles favourite wrestling game. That slow mo effect would be used in Smackdown Shut Your Mouth. Man I need to try these games.
Great stuff, as always. I imported this game a few years ago and had a blast playing it. Took me so long to edit the names of all the wrestlers, but it was truly a labor of love. I want to play Virtual Pro 2 sometime. I've never got a chance to try that one.
I play these games on a N64 emulator! The only problem is translating the menus and such into English is very annoying. Its a great game, buttery smooth controlls animations are strange sometimes but not often. I see it as just a NJPW version of No Mercy, World Tour, ect, just with some little changes to fit the Japanese wrestling product. Great video as always I love seeing new videos pop up from you. Keep it up my dude, thanks for the videos!
@@NikateeN it’s quite interesting how a few of the WCW games are American ports of the Japanese wrestling games, it’s like putting wallpaper over something and adding a splash of paint for good measure.
I believe they changed ddp's finisher was because of johnny ace being in this game and they wanted to make it somewhat different for each wrestler so they don't feel like a wrestler with a different skin
Any chance we can expect more import game reviews, like The Pro Wrestling 2 for PS1? I'm happy this channel has been thriving stronger than ever since your return. Definitely my favorite video game reviewer personally.
Scott Hall was actually given the BT Bomb (as used by Eddie Guerrero as Black Tiger II while on Japan) as his World Tour finisher, rather than the correct move as in VPW (and eventually Revenge).
Something else not in World Tour is that VPW64 made it so when getting cranked by a submission the intensity of the rumble increases when players are to about to tap out from all the damage they have taken, something no other N64 games from the likes of Acclaim, EA, or Yuke’s ever had. Every AKI game after VPW64 had this minor feature which I thought was cool for the first era of Rumble supported wrestling games.
They did so many things so right in these games. The bump animations are done so masterfully and haven’t been topped since. So many other games including the latest releases just feel like a CGI animation doing the animation pertaining to what you press, bumps feel like their just sorta floating around then stopping. The speed and impact of them feel like the wrestler is really landing on something and that their body is reacting the way it would upon said impact. That’s partly why the graphics never had to be photorealistic. Brilliant animations and overall feel of the gameplay was second to none. Blocky graphics were fine cuz the animations were so good that it almost felt like you were controlling action figures that came to life. Simply tragic that the engine died with No Mercy. Mods fill a bit of the void, but oh, what could have been if this engine survived to the point of uploaded custom content.

When I got my N64 emulator going I downloaded all the AKI wrestling games, but not this one as I saw it was just a Japanese version of world tour. Then I found out a few months ago that it wasn’t just a Japanese version. Holy shit the roster is amazing and I feel like a jackass for not looking into it more. Great game. Also, can’t wait for your vid on VPW2, I consider it the best wrestling N64 game. Although, on emulator I do play with an English patch which makes the important menus in English. The career mode in VPW2 is awesome. Love it!
I already reviewed World Tour, this one just included some comparisons since a lot of people (myself included), always assumed they were the same game.
Great review! I just picked this up (and vpw2) for a bundle price of about 60 bucks. Sounds steep but still cheaper than current gen games and I'll play these way more. I also picked up World Tour, Revenge, Mania 2000, and No Mercy, for a total of about 90 bucks. Great reviews!
Damn, Japan gets all the best wrestling games this one looks like it was way better than world tour... Side Note: DDP’s alternate finishing move was a spinning sit out powerbomb so it wasn’t that inaccurate.
Looks cool I'm going to try to get a English translation repro cart of this game if possible, I know there is a English translation for VPW2 so there should be one for the original I would think. Great video 😎👍
Wcw world tour had banger music. Wcw vs nwo and world tour are my childhood and mario kart. Simpler times with games made with love. Sad Nintendo never made another series after the n64 for wrestling for the Japanese or American market. Both love wrestling, even if a rerelease would make many people happy.
These older 64 games are the best with the aki sytem why wouldnt they just update it...i liked that you could break a suplex going on even a tount hell i think even a finisher was even breakable...or was that no murcy

Ah this game is pretty fantastic. i played this for the first time years ago on an Emulator as I wanted to try it (I had already played World Tour) and honestly I preferred this hugely. This game added a lot more content and the roster is just amazing, containing the WCW and NWO wrestlers alongside even more Japanese wrestlers and non Japanese wrestlers, you really can't find many rosters as stacked as this one. I also appreciate the fact that they added the combination system that'd later be included in Revenge which I always felt was fun to use. Also I find it humourous you can play as Muhammad Ali (done by holding Z on Antonio Inoki) and he doesn't grapple at all, instead his strikes are very strong, it's so out of place that it's honestly funny and something worth trying. Overall fantastic game, and a great review by you as usual, just wish you mentioned that some characters are accessed by holding Z on certain characters such as Great Muta who's accessed by holding Z on Keiji Mutoh once unlocked, but otherwise you nailed it.

Been watching your videos for years and I'd like to see you one day review the Fire Pro Wrestling series. It's literally the closest thing we have to the AKI games. The AKI games are kinda like 3D fire pros there are a lot of similarities. One of which is the fictional wrestling promotions with fictional wrestlers which are actually just real wrestlers and promotions renamed and the in depth CPU logic system which was in VPW2. I also believe some of the team who worked on older Fire Pros even went on to work on AKI titles. Also the gameplay is very similar with Fire Pro just being a tad bit harder to master as it is timing based. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2, Fire Pro Wrestling and Fire Pro Wrestling 2 on the GBA as well as Fire Pro Wrestling World on PS4/Steam are all officially released in english and are great choices for a review. If you can and are willing to dip into some Japanese only releases then we have Fire Pro Wrestling D for Dreamcast, Fire Pro Wrestling G for PS1 and Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium for the SNES are all great choices and feature WWF and WCW stars already premade. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2 has a few American wrestlers premade such as Hall, Nash, Bret Hart, AJ Styles, Petey Williams, Jarrett, Sting, Vader, Rikishi, and more. Fire Pro World has no real wrestlers but with PSN and Steam Workshop you can just download 1000s of creations.
@@NikateeN Good to hear. I am actually in the process of picking some of these up. I just got a Japanese Xbox 360 because I found out Wrestle Kingdom runs on the AKI engine. The Wild Rings on the OG Xbox looks decent.
Yoo Nikateen, I haven't commented in a while, but that's mainly bcuz I watch your videos on my tv and not my phone. Ayy man keep going dude, I keep watching your vids over and over every night or everyother night for about a year and a half, idk, it comforts me ahaha. And HEY, were both die hard wrestling fans, so I want you to take a peep at my two new wrestling matches! Thanks bro 🙏🏿🤙🏿🤙🏿
While World Tour was great I do wish we could have gotten all these features here in VPW64 within World Tour, still from Revenge onwards we got most if not all of them And seriously can't wait to see you review VPW2, even today that to me (and while I dunno if his opinion has changed but AJ Styles also has thought the same for many years) is the best pro wrestling game of the era, even above the amazing No Mercy
I've always heard this but never got much insight on the game (only ever saw snippets here and there that weren't so in-depth. What would you say are the major things that set it apart from No Mercy? I'd like to be enlightened.
@@dethlady0 well they are very similar especially in gameplay, but the extras that VPW2 has give it the edge, you can have 2 front and back specials which is meant to resemble how some AJPW wrestlers at the time had a regular finisher and a super finisher at the time and perhaps the biggest thing the game has to be the entire MMA style mode, which changes the gameplay and IMO gives the game more replay value as you have a different way to play the game Also apologies for the late reply
I’m taking a small hiatus from Arena Showcase to focus on the video game reviews. They just take such a long time to make and don’t really get the views that warrant the long production time. But I’d definitely love to cover it when I get back into the series!
The blood. Wasn't visible in the German version since Wrestlemania 2000. What was stupid with No Mercy, because there was the Blood Match in career mode but you only saw the animation but not the blood. Mmmm
Are you saying mine is sharp? Most people note how blurry my footage turns out. I’m playing on a standard North American console with RCA cables into a DVD recorder. Straight up old school. 😎
Not sure why there’s a few minutes of blank screen time at the end, maybe just use that time to reflect and relax. 😂

@@NikateeN Good to hear. I am actually in the process of picking some of these up. I just got a Japanese Xbox 360 because I found out Wrestle Kingdom runs on the AKI engine. The Wild Rings on the OG Xbox looks decent.
This reminds me a lot of wcw vs the world
I had a copy of this game was amazing i forgot how i found it but knew what is was right away
Yoo Nikateen, I haven't commented in a while, but that's mainly bcuz I watch your videos on my tv and not my phone. Ayy man keep going dude, I keep watching your vids over and over every night or everyother night for about a year and a half, idk, it comforts me ahaha. Even the old nintendo beat em ups, all the 30 mins twisted metal vids, if course all the wwe game videos, and the beloved arena showcases. keep going bro! And HEY, were both die hard wrestling fans, so I want you to take a peep at my two new wrestling matches! Thanks bro 🙏🏿🤙🏿🤙🏿
Right on man, will do! Thanks for the support!
Rad new opening!
While World Tour was great I do wish we could have gotten all these features here in VPW64 within World Tour, still from Revenge onwards we got most if not all of them
And seriously can't wait to see you review VPW2, even today that to me (and while I dunno if his opinion has changed but AJ Styles also has thought the same for many years) is the best pro wrestling game of the era, even above the amazing No Mercy
I've always heard this but never got much insight on the game (only ever saw snippets here and there that weren't so in-depth.
What would you say are the major things that set it apart from No Mercy? I'd like to be enlightened.
@@dethlady0 well they are very similar especially in gameplay, but the extras that VPW2 has give it the edge, you can have 2 front and back specials which is meant to resemble how some AJPW wrestlers at the time had a regular finisher and a super finisher at the time and perhaps the biggest thing the game has to be the entire MMA style mode, which changes the gameplay and IMO gives the game more replay value as you have a different way to play the game
Also apologies for the late reply
I started playing it last year when I found a link to play on an emulator
Where's the link, please?
Great review and easy sub for me.
Thank you!
The controls are great on the N64 and good on the GameCube, alright on the PS2. Passable on the original Xbox.
I lost my OG copy of world tour a while ago, I just ordered this one on Amazon should be here in June
@NikateeN can you do the no way out 1998 - 2012 arena showcase video?
I’m taking a small hiatus from Arena Showcase to focus on the video game reviews. They just take such a long time to make and don’t really get the views that warrant the long production time. But I’d definitely love to cover it when I get back into the series!
Bro I am waiting to see when you could do an arena showcase for WWF/ WWE Superstars
The blood. Wasn't visible in the German version since Wrestlemania 2000. What was stupid with No Mercy, because there was the Blood Match in career mode but you only saw the animation but not the blood. Mmmm
How do u get a sharp screen with this old n64 wrestling games ? I have a converter scart to hdmi 1080 but the graphic still looks not so good
Are you saying mine is sharp? Most people note how blurry my footage turns out. I’m playing on a standard North American console with RCA cables into a DVD recorder. Straight up old school. 😎
So are all the wrestlers under the wrestle of universe section just ones that can win by submission or KO or can they win by pinfall like the others ?
Is this a ROM? I’ve always wanted an English translated cart of this game that isn’t region-locked but I can’t find one. Love your channel!
Thanks! No, I play all original games/hardware with the exception of the few arcade reviews I’ve done.
Perhaps black and white is a nWo thing
Lol Nash is NOT saying "Moo"
That’s what me and my friends always joked about, don’t take it too seriously. 😆
@@NikateeN haha
