      The thing is, I might be an interior designer, and I might actually have a genuine interest in their cushions. How dare you be so judgemental, shame on you!

    Excellent video. You two have really hit your stride. Love the segue with the random bird hunt. Looking forward to seeing the finished product, but most of all look forward to an interesting and entertaining journey to get there. Cheers!

    one trick to get headlight covers to align perfectly is to tighten the bolts just enough to stop it flopping around (might need to flare the headlight cover tabs outward a bit). with the headlights in the down position, you should be able to wiggle the cover into perfect alignment, then pop the lights back up and tighten the bolts all the way down

    About the bird - just be happy that you found it fast. Somebody else had the same experience but the roomba vacum cleaner had "helped" with blowing all the feathers all over the place first..
    Good show - keep at it! The key is to spend at least some time on the project every week. No matter how little. In the end it adds up (and gets to be a habit).

    Hey guys, loving the series. Looks like your popularity is growing, only had a hundred subcribers when i found you. In the process of restoring my own 1993 SW20. Your biggest enemy looks to be rust, sadly. I just got my front end back together after replacing the lower tie bar (radiator support) and repairing some other damage caused by the previous owner hitting a semi tire in the road. Ouch! Anyway, great show and keep them coming!

    You are supposed to wait several weeks for the paint to cure before you apply compounds and waxes on it.

    Glad to see you restored the wipers. Thought from your description before they were too far gone. I did the same with mine and some hammerite. It still looks fine a year later. The rust on the spring was the only thing i'm sure could have been done better.

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  7 лет назад

      They we're really rusty, but they definitely cleaned up well :) We used the Hammerite smooth black spray, but it ended up being more of a gloss finish, think the satin finish would have been better.

    • @jacklondon7873
      @jacklondon7873 7 лет назад

      I used satin for the rear strut brace, matched well.

  • @gosportjamie

    Some rust killer, etch primer and satin black and the wiper arms will look good as new. Don't use gloss, you'll drive yourself nuts with reflections on sunny days. The wiper arms of Japanese cars don't seem to have very good paint for UK weather, and some of them ('90s Nissans) have very shiny metal under the paint which really isn't good in sunny weather...

    I fear it might be time to spring for a light or 2, there's tons of noise in the image especially with your living room intro stuff. Getting a good camera grade LED panel is probably your best bet and can be used to light your work in a garage too. Otherwise great stuff the pair of you, loving your work.

      Is it needed though??.. its not a TV series, looks fine to me watching something on youtube, it would just be more expense for them.. doing a great job, as David said great work keep it up

      For this episode we tried using the little camcorder for the sofa bits instead of the DSLR we usually use, but we'll be going back to the DSLR for future episodes, as it handles the (lack of) light better.
      We would like to invest in some proper lighting, but tools and car parts are always a hight priority :)

    Where do you find your spray can with the excat color of the car?
    Nice video by the way

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks! We got the paint from paints4u.com, you type in your paint code and they send a colour matched can. It's not a perfect match as Misty's paint has faded a bit over the last 24 years, but with a bit of feathering it looks great :)

    Where are u from? I'm from Plymouth and going to be getting a mr2 in the next few years, you mentioned Exeter so I assume south west, should start a south west mr2 owners club

      We are indeed in the South West there are occasional South West meet ups organised on mr2oc.co.uk, hoping we'll have Misty ready in time for the next one

    When you say "scuffed up the clear coat" - MR2s for the US market were single-stage paint, no clear coat. Is this different in the UK? Nice video by the way!

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  7 лет назад

      Interesting. It certainly acts like it has a clear coat, ie: you can buff out light scratches that haven't gone through to the colour coat, but we're by no means paint experts. Also the paint cans were supplied as a set specific to our paint code, and they included a clear coat.
      I'll have an ask around the UK MR2 owners club to see if we did get a clear coat over here.

      You definitely have a two stage paint. Metallics, pearls - are two stage. If you polish the paint, and you get colored residue, then it's acrylic/single stage. Your car's color is "8J2 -blue metallic", right?

    • @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness
      @EnginesandUnfinishedBusiness  7 лет назад +1

      Ah that makes sense, it is indeed 8J2, and no coloured residue when polishing. Thanks for the clarification :)

    • @jacklondon7873
      @jacklondon7873 7 лет назад

      You did, the thing I recently learned is that apparently the metallic finish in the original paint is added in the clear-coat and not the base paint which seemed very odd to me. I was trying to find the paint to match the matt paint you see in the engine bay etc when I was informed of that.

      It cost us £200, which was an insanely good deal for what it was. Normally good running ones are around £1,000 - £2,000

      It wont always be 2 weeks between vids, just depends how much we can get done :) it's tough at the moment with us both so busy with work, but at least the sun is starting to show itself, so we can work more on Misty outside the garage.
