I’ve had my pup for almost a week now. He was placed in a crate from day one to sleep and while I’m at work. I was fortunate enough to get him on a weekend so I could be there enough to get him to understand that the crate is a good thing. First two nights were horrible, I think I got like 4 hours of sleep. Last night he went in the crate without me telling him to and slept from 9:30 to 4:30 no whimpering or making me get up in the middle of the night. He also recently started hanging out in his crate with the door open. Huge progress for the first week 🎉
My Aussie puppy was 8 weeks old when he came home with me. He has slept in his crate since the first night. The very first night he whimpered for about 15 seconds then went to sleep. Since the first night he has slept through the night every night without issue. I usually wake up in the middle of the night and I’ll take him outside to go potty. He goes and then goes right back in his crate until morning without any fuss. I feel lucky to not be struggling with this. I love my Murphy ❤️🐶❤️
So yesterday he slept next to me. Today he was fine in the living room since I crate during the day he learned quick. Let’s see tonight how it goes. (Granted I did use a deep voice at 2am after potty break. Whimpered like 3 mins and settled down) other than this he gets love and cuddles all day.
Do you have any tips about grooming
@@Sanrio_Slooot well I gave him a bath but put cotton balls in his ears to avoid water in the ears then brushed his hair out. I also clipped the hair that grows on his penis to avoid it from staying wet after peeing. Other than that not much more.
So what if we are silly people who did not buy a crate because we got hole late and store was closed…. I feel so silly we didn’t do this before hand. We are first time dog owners and not very educated…. Is it all right to get it tomorrow or will this ruin the teaching??

My spouse and I decided our Aussiedor could sleep in our bed from day one. We also put a dog bed down on the floor in our bedroom should he want to use that (and we made him aware of it). Now, 11 months later, he starts the night in our bed, then goes to his bed on the floor after a few hours, and then gets back into our bed about an hour before we get up. No problem. Our bedroom is his "crate" as he feels safe and comfortable there. Further, we never play with him in the bedroom...the bedroom is for sleeping/resting only. Whenever we have to leave for a few hours, we put him in our bedroom and he remains quite calm. When he feels like taking a nap on his own during the day, he goes to our bedroom. The only places that are "off-limits" to him, are our living room and dining room upstairs. The rest of the house is his to enjoy. He was very easy to potty train. When he did his business in the house, we would simply give him a firm no and carry him outside as well as praising him when he did his business outside. We took him outside every half hour during the day (as well as twice at night) for the first month we had him, always praising him on a job well done (and a treat when he came back inside). After that, we went hourly for the next month, continuing the praise. After the second month, we have only had 4 accidents, which we handled just like his first month as a puppy (a firm "no" and carry him outside). Nowadays, he gives us a "double bark" when he needs to do his business and we let him outside (and always a treat when he comes back inside).
13.5 years ago I adopted an Aussie rescue, as part of the interview was the question..."Where will he sleep!" I replied, "Wherever he wants!" They were satisfied with that answer, and that is where he still sleeps...usually with his face over an A/C vent!
I’ll never forget that first night of howling! We had her in our room in her crate that night but moved her out the next night! We have always kept the crate in the garage for times when she needs to be confined for service calls and lots of company. It’s her little haven. After 10 years she sleeps anywhere in the house, but we can always go back to the crate if needed. Great advice!
They are very smart. I have never had a dog that is so easy to communicate with. So much so that I talk to him like a person and he responds. I doubt that there are many people that regret having an Aussie as a friend. One quick story. My dog and I were in the house and I looked out the window and one of my horses was grazing over the fence about 100yards away. I called him to the door and told him to get that horse off the fence! Out he went and did what he was told.
I got lucky with my dog. First night couldn't stand him crying in the crate took him out (I was very weak willed) He's slept with me ever since with no issues. My dog also doesn't leave my side so that helped since he never was wandering around the house.

We just had an Aussie puppy given to us because of bad behavior & potty issues, when I asked if they were using a crate they said no & I said that the problem puppies need boundaries. They insisted that he was just too much for them so we brought him home. Night one he slept literally on me “softie softie” & night 2 he fought with all his might to keep from going into the crate & then barked incessantly for over an hour (driving the other dogs loopy). 🤪 However, when I came back into the room over an hour later he was sound asleep, along with everyone else!!! Tonight will be night 3 so we’ll see how we progress from here! Thanks again!!!🎉
Our 8 week Aussie whined and cried for one night her very first night, as a special treat she got to sleep with me that night. She's happily gone to sleep once we shut her in straight away ever since. Probably helps that her crate is at the end of our bed and she can hear us quietly talking in bed before we fall asleep ourselves.
Mine was crated for her first year. Did well with that, but she eventually gained my trust and now she sleeps beside me in my bed.

Crate training is going great so far. He’s been home a week and has developed a good routine of going to sleep at night in there, only. He naps outside, and enjoys spreading out on the cool wood floor during the day. Have him in the big living room, at night, considering moving his crate into a smaller space.Thanks for all your wonderful videos!❤️🍷from Vegas

💯 the crate is not a punishment and shouldn’t be used as one. It’s to keep your dog healthy, happy, and safe.

I started with tough love but after weeks! with little sleep and neighbours giving me the evil eye I decided to let her sleep in my room and that went well.
Y'all read people's coments and reply. That says a lot. When i retire next year, i am planning to get an aussie pup...i'm psyched.

I did this method with my Aussie mix, started with a crate in a seperate room, once she was mostly potty trained we started letting her in our room, and now we can leave the door open and let her have full access to the house at night without issues. That being said she is not a huge fan of the crate, she never has been, and she still whines when she has to go inside for any reason

Mine has slept in the crate every night since day one & does very well. I would like her to sleep on a bed on the floor but we have a cat that walks around at night & she cannot seem to stop herself from chasing after the cat.
New puppy, she never stops barking in crate. So it sounds like I just let her cry it out. Was just wondering since my other Aussies have never done this much barking.. Thank you for the answer

we have a 3 months puppy, and 3 cats!! it s the 2nd day he s here and the cats are scared. i separated the house with a fence for cats to be quiet without him chasing, we have exersice pen, in the living room, , he sleeps in at night but he cries! i don t want him in the bedroom cause the cats sleep with us , any advices ?

What if I live on a hill?
I have a 6 week old Aussie rn and she will NOT go to bed and she does not like her crate at ALL she will have nothing to do with it, so I got her a HUGE dog bed and she will sleep on that for about 2-3 hours then she starts whining barking and screaming. Could you help me on that please?

How to I discipline whining while in their crate? My puppy screamed and cried for 12 hours and kept me up so naturally I'm exhausted and unable to function properly during the day. He has horrible separation issues.

My dog sleeps on my bed or on the couch. Sometimes he wants more space and lays on the flor. Why should I put him in a crade for the case he might have a operation one day, which is not even sure? Spoil the whole nights of his life with rules, because of somthing that might happen one night? His vet even does operations and lets the dog home the same day. And I am pretty sure, if it is really necessary, he can sleep in a crate without a problem. So I dont have to lock him up all nights of his life in this little prison called crade.
