  • Timbers first week at home. We've accomplished a lot this week, including introducing him to grooming, toddlers, and a few other dogs. Still a lot of work left, but this week was a great start.

Congratulations. So happy for you. You did the right thing to give your love to a new puppy. You will never forget your first and he would want you to share your love with Timber. Love the name too. 💕😘👍🏻

I’ve had 2 Aussies myself, and I share your pain on losing your last Buddy(whose name escapes me at the moment).
Glad to see you have a sweet, new Buddy.
    Aussies are a God-send.
This little guy is in good hands and a loving home.
    Congratulations!

Our Aussie boy "Dusty" is 4.5 years old and he's always been super laid back too and loves cuddles.

I love how you said Aspen sent him. We lost our 11 year old girl Bamm Bamm who sounds extremely similar to Aspen in personality on June 10. Just got our new boy Winston who was born on June 1. It’s like she knew it was okay to go because he was on this earth for us. He’s very similar to your pup. So good and sweet and also going to be a big boy.

Great to see you smiling and happy! I'm so happy for you! My little guy has been getting so much better, the first couple of nights were rough.
My Ahyoka Star is a Red Tri, and my new puppy boy is a Red merle with one light blue eye and a green/amber eye with a blue speck.
Sequoyah is 10 weeks old and smaller than Timber!
    Timber is adorable 🥰🤩.
Ahyoka Star, Sequoyah and I send you our love. Happy that you are happy!

Great video. I learned a lot about cutting a puppy’ nails. You probably already know this but you might want to consider switching to a gauze pad for cleaning the dog’s ears. We use a roughly 7.5 cm square pad with the ear solution. This seems to work really well.

Thanks for your advise. Our last Aussie was not as socialized as I would have liked. She had a little "stranger danger". I am going to do things differently this time when we get our new pup in October. Puppy classes, kids and selected dogs until she is fully protected with vaccines. I am hoping for a cuddle bug, because our last one wasn't.

With crate training I understand you don’t agree with it because it’s not natural and dogs 100 years ago were not in crates, but dogs are also naturally den animals. A crate is a den. It’s a safe place they can go to take time out or if anxious or fears with thunderstorms or fireworks a crate is there safe place “den”

The problem that I have is that no animal that dens (foxes, wolves, etc) is confined to that den...so an open crate can serve as a den and safe place, but closing a dog in a crate for hours does not simulate denning behavior. My boy would go under the couch when he was little and fall asleep there (kind of like his 'den') but he was never forcibly confined to the area. I understand why people like crate training. It works and can be a great tool to get super anxious and high energy dogs to settle, but it is often a tool that is misused to benefit the owner instead of the dog.

Hope the postdoc is going well! Would love any updates on your work, but guess it's the offseason field work wise so it's just writing papers and such. Don't know how I could cope with a new puppy going into the final year of my PhD. Super happy to see Timber is such a chill little dude at least for now!

Praying for pup, he is adorable. We rescue dogs and some other animals with local rehabilitations here in NY, we had a cat that was to be blind, then it was poor vision, then he is fine, he was on deaths door step. We prayed a lot, but added in sardines and cod liver oil. This little guy had such great vision he felt inclined to take on my giant golden rottie. It was funny but it has become an add in to a lot of our dogs with great success. Praying all you do will result in great blessings, enjoy the journey, puppy hugs.

I really don’t like crate-training….seems not natural to me, and like it is more for the human’s convenience than the dog’s. My Hannah never was in a crate, but she was perfect, so never needed it. She was never on a leash either…..she was on a verbal leash, and just wanted to not be very far from me
