My Doxie didn't mind being left alone. He would just take a nap while nobody was home. He had cats to keep him entertained if he wanted to. If I ever get a new dog, it will be another dachshund.
I am getting my puppy at then end of January and I have been looking at random videos about Dachshunds but your channel has taught me so much in 2 days!!! Thank you for these videos. I feel like I am well prepared for my sweet girl!
I put music on before I leave home and I have Ezviz camera on when I leave home so when she barks and winges I can call her , this calms her down quickly, and goes back to sleep. I don't make a big fuss when I get back home but give her attention a few minutes later
My dog is a mix, dachshund/pitbull, but seems to favor his dachshund side. He cries when left alone, then settles down, then jumps all over me when I return.
Yeah, I think I am giving too much affection to my mini grand puppy. I pamper his every whim and desire. 😒🤦🏻♀️🤣 he goes to the bathroom with me, and cries at the base of the tub while I’m showering. Sometimes, he has to stand up on the tub and peek his head past the curtain, and that’s still traumatic for him. I’m talking to him the entire time, telling him grandma is right there! Lol it’s just so darn hard!
Please do your research when you're looking for daycare. I recently quit a daycare job where there were aggressive dog fights every week. It would always end up being more than the first 2 who started it. Often 6 dogs
My doxie male wanted to be with me all the time,or so I thought, then I broke my arm ,tripped on my dog, I sent him off to my son haus,he had 2 female dogs, was my dog happy,he was ignoring me already, stayed there for 3 months , til I recovered, got my dog back, well he's alot more behaved and not as clingy .
@@MrSplcrazytheyre saying their dog was really clingy and attached to them, but when they got hurt and had to send him off for a while they found he was totally fine without them, even ignoring them. even came back less needy
You mentioned planning ahead, what would that look like? I plan on popping in during my lunch time for a nice walk to allow my puppy to use the "facilities" and tire them out, but what else can you do? Kongs and frozen treats to keep the mind busy?? Thank you very much for this video, this was so educational!!
Hey Rebeca, thanks for watching! It sounds like you know what you're doing, kongs and frozen treats are a great way to keep your pup occupied when you need to go out 👌🏼
In my opinion a playpen, or like me I just have him fenced in my living room with a potty pad, he has access to looking out the window and chilling on the couch. The more restricted he is when being left alone the more stressed he is. His chihuahua buddy definitely helps. They just go under the blankets on the couch and cuddle all day.

Hi. Love your videos!! Can I just ask.. is crate training so important when the puppy has a companion? My pup won't go in the crate, she just wants to be with my dog - and when she is, she's totally settled
Hi there , this is so refreshing so many people judge you for leaving your dog bit you need a life and they are meant to add to it not take over !! We are able to leave Ralph for about 5 hours at a time , no accidents etc and he generally sleeps or plays with a Kong , my mum helps at the moment but when I move out I will need to leave him alone for 7 hours sti ache a couple days a week is this ok? I’ve been told it’s tOo long for a daxie :(
I recently adopted an 18 month old male dachshund, he came from Romania, (I have no idea what his life was like there), but when he arrived in the UK he was put in an outdoor kennel for a month and was without human contact for a good 10 hours each day. From the moment we adopted him he bonded to me. I don’t work so am home all the time. We have got him a crate and he will happily go in it to eat or chill out while I do the housework (if I don’t he follows me and I risk tripping over him). The trouble is when we go out. We have tried 5 mins, then longer, we were out for 2 hours once but kept watch on the camera and returned asap. It doesn’t matter how long we are gone, if he is in the crate he cries, destroys anything in it, and is desperate to escape to the point of chewing on the bars till his gums bleed. If we let him free roam, he paces, moans, scratches the door, and destroys the door mat. We currently have to take him everywhere or cancel plans. The separation anxiety is so much! Any tips on what we can do please? I can’t even go to the shops, my partner has to go without me so I can stay home with our dog. Thanks 😊
Hi just read your comment I can relate my westie Freddie was like this ..he had terrible separation anxiety after losing his brother..I tried everything.. But then a random conversation with a stranger told me to get anti calm spray .it's a oral spray ..it worked & we got the anti calm bed for dogs with anxiety..also leave on the radio or TV it all helps . Or get him a doxie brother.. I lost my Freddie 1.5yrs ago & only now able to commit to another puppy Freddie was like my child he was 15years old .I miss him so much still 😢 😪
@@cearilindubhlaoi9507 Sorry for the late reply, I am not used to spotting the notifications. I am so sorry for your loss. Also, thank you for the recommendations, I will look into those options, esp a doxie brother lol. This is something we have been considering. Thank you again 🥰
I have been leaving my puppy in a crate since day 1 and she’s always gone to the toilet in it and still does no matter what I do I find it hard to leave her without her going to the toilet, do you have any advice on what I can do? I have tried leaving her for 5 minutes and giving her a treat and building it up but after half an hour she pushing any toilet business straight out, I’m at a lose end with her because I can’t even go to the shop without her going to the toilet Iv tried letting her out and just having the kitchen to herself but she still goes to the toilet.
Your crate is too big. You need a smaller crate to prevent her from going potty inside. You should also take her out every 2-3 hours to relieve herself and potty train her or use fresh patch. A service that delivers a patch of grass to your door every 2, 3 or 4 weeks depending on your choice so you can train her to use the grass instead of the crate. This will help separate the crate/sleeping and grass/potty. Reward her for good behavior with a treat every time she potties in the grass. Dogs learn that way, they will repeat good behavior because they know they will be rewarded. I say size down to give her plenty of space to only sleep and maybe get fresh patch and a puppy playpen to keep her in one area while you potty train her. Patience and consistency are key. I also recommend Petco puppy training classes if you really need the extra help 😊
I truly enjoy watching a big tough tattooed guy talk about ...Daschunds!

found myself wishing this Will guy had videos specially about daschunds and how perfect that I should find this.

Phenomenal videos and great teachings as well. Both my wife and I are new Dachshund owners and your videos help a lot. Thank you ever so so much 👍🏼

Yes, my doxins stay home alone for 8 hours ans hes completly fine.
@@mafiaazulcma1647 that’s illegal in my country to leave a dog for more than 4-5 hours. Interesting that it seems to be ”ok/normal” in other countries
Leave it in the backyard

perfect puppy free, behavior free, perfect puppy, boot camp... Do not work?
Mine can't be left alone out of a crate or they'll chew up much furniture. They are 5 btw.
I don’t understand- this video isn’t even specific to dachshunds. Did you steal someone else’s video, rename it and mix in some dachshund photos??
How rude are you. Bugger off, your comment is useless, & has zero value 🤡
2nd view! I love your videos!
I do not agree with any kind of crates, some people lock them in there for far too long which is just cruel.
My little dude can’t handle me being in the next room
This is elementary knowledge
