Nobody thought that Ochako and Toga's arc was going to hit as hard as it did, hell while reading the manga everybody thought that barely mattered, and man Horikoshi just made juice with our tears, their clash was so beautiful and the voice actress for Ochako was going OFF
I absolutely loved the discussion. The way you actually pay attention to all the details and character backstories and developments is such a delight. As someone who read the manga, season 8 is gonna be amazing!
A lot of people misunderstood the whole conflict of Midoriya vs Shigaraki, and Uraraka vs Toga by extension. Deku never refused to fight him, nor is he trying to redeem him, what he said back in S6E18 was that he refused to "kill" him, more specifically he refused to dehumanize Shigaraki into just a monster that needs to be killed The reason why Shigaraki hates All Might so much is because the "peace" he provided was by getting rid of "enemies" (how the word villains is written in the manga), he only covered up the wound, and eventually the maggots come crawling out. It's like what Twice said back in S4, "heroes only save good people", All Might was only a hero to good people, while reminding villains they don't belong in this world Even Shigaraki taunted Deku in S7E16 by saying "I am your villain (enemy)", because that's how the society has been treating them, and that's also why Deku and Uraraka are trying so hard to reach the humanities inside the villains, they're trying to heal the wound, even if the patients are kicking and screaming the entire time Deku will never just lable them as villains and simply take them out, because he saw inside Shigaraki's "origin", it was a crying kid. So many people misunderstood what Deku said as "Shigaraki is a crying kid deep inside", but really if you rewatch the episode, he was talking about Shigaraki's origin, that Shigaraki became a villain because of pain in the past, that's why he refused to dehumanize Shigaraki
This season was absolutely phenomenal. Uraraka’s Quirk awakening was breathtaking to see and her talk with Toga was nice. All Might vs AFO Round 3 has begun. Armored All Might would make an awesome action figure!
Something this episode really made me realize is how much of a metaphor Toga's quirk is, and how her desire to take/receive blood parallels her need for love and compassion and warmth. Once she finally receives that compassion, that family, that blood, it really starts to shape her. She's saved by those bonds, and literally by Twice, the person she was arguably the closest to, and goes on to save Uraraka the same way, emulating what her family did for her, her real family, not the one she was born into, and after receiving that blood, that compassion, that warmth, she reciprocates it, instead of pushing away, punching, stabbing, screaming, etc. I think it's such an interesting parallel, given how the people in her past treated her, and how she began to behave, because of that, versus who she grows into once she finally has that love and compassion being given, allowing her to accept it and give it back, too. It really shows how much her environment impacted who she was, versus who she would otherwise have become.
What a masterpiece of a season, and a show. Each of these characters (Toga especially is the one I'm thinking about right now) has such a beautifully intricate and heartfelt character arc. Every time I go back and rewatch certain episodes (especially with context from new content as it comes out) I notice new nuances and parallels that expose just how life-like they all are. And of course, each one makes me sob. I could have never imagined the extent to which I feel for Toga, but her arc has become one of my absolute favorites for many of the reasons you discuss in your video, and my heart breaks for her. There will never be another show like My Hero Academia, and I'm so excited to share its finale with you ♥Take care, and know that we're all with you in spirit
love your discussion so much. toga and uraraka's arc hit me so hard, i literally can't stop myself from crying every time i watch it. it was so emotional and so well done. it makes me so sad thinking about the alternate universe of medic toga using her quirk for blood transfusions, it would have been amazing. thanks for the video guys and hope you're doing well
Really thankful for the amount of breakdown you do!! Cos a show like this really deserves it! Appreciate the details you guys picked up on 🎉🎉🎉 you’re fantastic
You two are literally the only reactors I seen direct the story each reaction. The way you guys described toga and ochako is literally it! Toxic fans can’t comprehend that 🥹
This episodes were great! The animation was also insane, when Uraraka awakened her Quirk its look like a movie ( also, I like that finally someone understand that Uraraka and Toga are incredibly good writtencharacters, I mean, female characters in shonens are usually quite "nah", while Toga and Uraraka are just on another level. Great reaction and analysis as always👍 ). Enjoy Armored All Might desing, he look like a Batman+Iron Mam+Symbol of Peace and its look awesome! Also, its only the beginning of there fight and its will only get crazier! That is easily one of the best seasons of the series ( if not the best one ) and anime of the year, thank you studio Bones.
I can always count on them to have a proper read on MHA lol. I saw people clowning on the Toga x Uraraka fight but damn, they COOKED. And I wasn't expecting much from it.
fun fact yep!!, the hero name that the LOV suggested to toga was vampire carmilla! a wonderful reference to the vampiric, queer/lesbian literature classic, that was even written before the famous book ‘dracula’ by bram stroker :)) which is really cool seeing as toga is one of the canonically queer characters of mha had to nerd out for a second there sorry, i was just pleasantly surprised to see that novel mentioned while i was reading the manga haha as always i love your discussions, i was really looking forward to this video 😭!! you guys are honestly the best
also, something that makes me so sad is knowing how good of a hero or medic toga could’ve been. it’s exactly what you guys are saying and it makes me feel so bittersweet. in a world where she was raised with love and support; if she trained her quirk and her amazing instincts she could be a great rescue hero. she literally stitched uraraka’s wound, she could give blood to those who need it right on the field… man. i wonder if uraraka thought about that too, because it’s just soooo aaaahhh
It's so fitting for her character because her whole thing is that she's villainized for the way that she loves. The whole world tells her not to love the way her heart is yearning for and she's even gone through re-education to "correct" herself. It's only when someone shows that they're willing to participate in their way of loving that she finally feels the freedom that she's asking for. I genuinely think Toga makes for one of the best commentaries in queer studies found in the anime medium.
nah lol pretty sure she's just an anime character that is a psychopath that likes drinking blood and that's what gives her that warped concept of "love" Considering she said she falls in love easily with anyone and everything. You guys are reading way too deep.
@@XXiKratosXXI If you approach any kind of art or genre with the idea that it's "just anime" or "just a cartoon" you'll miss out on a lot. Also, where am I reading too deep? Vampiress carmilla is literally mentioned by horikoshi, it's an intentional connection made by the author lol. My hero touches on many themes to varying levels of depth; so I'm not saying the whole show is queer because it's not, I'm merely pointing something out to add more to the discussion. Thanks for your thoughts.
@@mishad6161 Japan isn't exactly the most welcoming when it comes to those sort of themes, so I seriously doubt that's what she represents, maybe you're the one trying to find meaning in every piece of material you consume because you want it to be relevant to you, maybe?
Some part i would like to mention since i know both of you can appreciate, i dont read the manga but i've seen a lot of comment that the armored suit cost almost of all might saving from being a hero (40+ damn year)
Something extra I love about this plotline is how Uraraka saying how Toga’s smile is so perfect that it makes her jealous is a parallel to Deku when he said Todoroki’s quirk was his not Endeavor’s. Read chapter 39 then 393, it’s even framed the same way.
Nice to see ya'll back a bit! Listening to the discussion about how goo the title of ep 20 is, I agree. I think this season as a whole has a lot of great ep titles, a highlight being "The Chain Thus Far" for me. They're titles from the manga so it's the author himself making them, though the directors of the anime pick which chapter titles become episode titles (since episodes usually cover multiple chapters).
Stain saw them as they were taking off. Lida ran almost the entire Japan to get to the sads man parade, so I think stain is very close to the fight of all might and all for one.
It's a small thing but I absolutely adore Tsukauchi and All Mights friendship, something Horikoshi could have easily just left on the wayside. Their interactions are great, two friends dedicated to the life long fight of crime and AFO.
Toga’s parents could have taught her to fish or hunt and she could have sustained herself off the blood of animals. Instead they choose to degrade and dehumanize her, might be the worst parents in the show.
I get the feeling the final season is going to be one cour at most, because there's only about thirty chapters of source material left and a substantial chunk of that is epilogue stuff. Short of doing anime-original content like Tsuyu's internship or the fights with extra teams in the Hero License Exam I don't know that there's much more to be done from the completed manga.
*Toga finally got the love and validation that she needed and deserved all this time. If I’m being honest, despite everything she’s done, I do feel incredibly sorry for Toga. She was unfairly ostracized for how she expressed her love, but now, she’s finally met someone who accepts her.* *Uraraka is amazing. And this isn’t even the first time I’ve cried because of how great she is. Between this and her speech last season… :,)*
Now this may be off topic but may I recommend for you , Ben and Anna, Bungo stray dogs... It's different a little slow but gets good... Just something I'd throw out there if you like my hero academia
on the topic of quirks that seem like "attack quirks" that have more practical applications: Dabi's quirk If his family had been in a better and healthier place they could have seen his high cold resistance and strong flame combo as an ideal quirk for mountain rescue. Because his father was so focused on what he couldn't do instead of what he could do this turned Toya into Dabi and the rest is history. Deku and Dabi/Toga are kinda two sides of the same coin in that regaurd: One was given love and support with their inability to fit in while the other wasn't. Deku focused on what he could do- take notes, be creative, and over analyse. This is why he is so great with One For All: his creativity! We see it time and time again- yeah all the quirks are great but they mean nothing if the person weilding them wasn't creative like Deku was.
However much I dislike these past two seasons, partly because it feels quality and writing wise as Ben put it, (although in positive light, I see it as negative), as fanfiction, Toga x Uraraka storyline climax was amazing, too bad they seemingly killed her off, but maybe I'm wrong
I hate to break it to everyone, but Ben is dead. What you’re seeing in this video isn’t actually Ben-it’s the stalker pretending to be him, and Anna is in on it. This whole thing is a cover-up to keep people thinking everything is normal, but it’s far from it. The stalker took over Ben’s life, and now he’s using Anna to help keep up the illusion. Don’t be fooled by these uploads-the truth is much darker than anyone realizes.
What they've done to Boku no Hero is outrageous.. It became a generic slogfest.. Giving a whole episode to characters that no one cares, battles that keep going on forever.. It's like its made by entirely new people... lol
We're all in your corner Ben, take all the time you need, we're not going anywhere.
I'm going to the kitchen, I'm hungry
Ben will be fine as he is already gone super saiyan mode with his hairstyle. 😂
Ben reacting to the last two peak episodes of MHA in his super saiyan form is just fitting 😂😂

fun fact, ochaco's voice actor cried when she first read the script, and then again as she was voicing her in the studio for both of these episodes
