"Let's correct this behavior." "Why can't you just be normal." "You put on a mask, and pretend to be someone else." Shit got a little too real jesus christ
Yeah man society should never try to correct people wanting to be serial killers. This is unironicaly a argument for conversion therapy even if it didn't work better than letting your child act like a sadistic sociopath than to even try to curb it.
Feels like an allegory on how someone can be "othered" when not fitting in with society. No wonder the LOV opened up to toga . Even shigaraki would see toga's past and be like "society, you suck"
Oh the vas deliver all seasons in my opinion But like later down the line there like Yo hold my Drink let's show Dubs can deliver just like sub can lol
4:44 "help", to me it seemed more like convertion therapy, supressing herself and her wants to fit into society as normal, not to help hwr like actual therapy does, help her live with others as she is, help hwr understand how things work and how.she can be herself while living with others
I remember seeing this excerpt from an interview with Ayane Sakura (Uraraka's Japanese voice actress) on the subject of recording this episode: "I was crying the whole time. During the recording I could barely see the words on the script and I barely remember anything. Only Toga-chan's face on the storyboard is burned into my mind. It wasn't so much acting, but I felt like I was living. I think there were relentless retakes, but I don't remember them very well. I won't know which take was chosen until it airs. During the break, I felt relieved when my seniors praised me, saying 'that was amazing', and then I faced the script again, heartbroken, and cried... It was a continuous cycle. For some reason, Fukuen-san _[Misato Fukuen, Toga's VA]_ looked refreshed and laughed, saying 'Ayane-chan, why are you crying so much,' which was hard on me, so after the dubbing was over I walked around the city and cried alone for a while."
"And then, I fell in love with Izuku Midoriya". ❤ Make me giggle a little bit, after all that time to hear her saying that. But nonetheless the tension between Ochaco and Toga is definitly there. And the animations just have been better and better every episode!
I think it's worth noting in both the bird and her friend, yeah she was interested in blood, but she made it clear she didn't actively harm them to make them bleed
Well regarding the bird, her killing it seemed to be an accidental consequence of her trying to be affectionate towards it. Cause in season 5 we see this same flashback and the bird IS alive when she finds it. And when she starts sucking on it, it’s alive too. But this episode reveals that the bird was dead afterwards. It’s easy to piece together that Toga accidentally killed it.
Uraraka's full evolution for her gravity control, her evolution of HSP to an Empath, and her final evolution of her absolute love of pretty much ALL people, and admitting she loves Izuku Midoriya. It got me SO MUCH and Uraraka is already my 2nd favorite character behind Izuku himself. All to save this girl that has no concept of actual love because its never a love she can receive back for what she's asking for. Toga a girl who was never allowed to smile. Look for love. And its all she wanted. So Uraraka gave hers. Here is what real love is. Here is real understanding. You can be you, and you can do it in this world that has said time and time again it doesn't want you. But compromise, apply, and understand. And after a hard fought war over getting to the bottom of her emotions, Toga gets what she had been begging for for years. What so many in this world all want and need. (Not including those that just...don't.) And she lifts everyone's problems away. I saw NONE OF THIS BUT URARAKA'S QUIRK EVOLUTION COMING. This threw me through EVERY loop. I didn't even think Uraraka could stop Toga because Toga clearly needs familial love not so much romantic despite her obsessions. So I was looking for characters that could possibly be related to Toga, and I thought it was going to be Monoma because Toga is the eldest sibling and I thought Monoma was the changed last name of the Toga family. While Uraraka would go save her man. Story did NOTHING of the sort and just had Uraraka brute force the most advanced levels of empathy and taking it to the limit, and I only discovered in THESE CHAPTERS that HSP can evolve into Empaths. And she found the love Toga needed by empathizing where no one but people like her and Izuku would dare. And I just fell out of my chair because it wasn't even CLOSE to what I thought was possible but made sense, and STILL checked off everything these characters are capable of. And now its one of my favorite fights in the entire show because it did such a great job blind siding me. (God and it only made me like Uraraka around Izuku that much more. Fantastic. They are just made for each other. Only someone of THAT level of compassion, care, and love of others could only ever find their true partner with the same level.)
I understand Toga’s struggles like having a quirk like that won’t exactly get you a normal life. It’s really sad to watch tbh and I’m happy our girl was able to get through the to her. When Toga said the last remnant of twice was disappearing I cried bc I loved him sm and this truly was the last I would see of his character 💔. That’s what I love about the villains in the show that they aren’t just one dimensional villains they have backstories that makes uo sympathetic to them but they are still villains.
*If I had a nickel for every time Uraraka made me cry like this, I would have a lot actually. But between this and her speech last season... :,) Toga finally got the love and validation that she needed and deserved all this time. If I’m being honest, despite everything she’s done, I do feel incredibly sorry for Toga. She was unfairly ostracized for how she expressed her love, but now, she’s finally met someone who accepts her.*
This episode breaks my heart every time I watch it. Especially knowing how Himiko has said multiple times that drinking blood is how she shows love, so her drinking the blood of the bird and her friend was just someone trying to show compassion, affection, and care to someone who was injured and having her actions not being understood. When we're introduced to Himiko, she comes off as something of a delusional sadist, someone who gets off on the pain and suffering of others. To have all of that recontextualized and showing her as someone who had a tremendous capacity to love and care for others, to literally have her say that because of her quirk she feels love for EVERYONE and that was just twisted by the world's rejection of her, is a brilliant piece of writing. Like, so much of how Himiko behaves and understands the world is informed by her parent's attitudes which she has deeply internalized. She sees love as being synonymous with cruelty and violence because that was how she experienced the "love" her parents expressed for her. She is desperately vocal about seeing herself as a normal girl, the exact quality her parents demanded from her as they called her an inhuman monster. She expresses love for herself and her quirk but also tries to escape being herself constantly by becoming the people she loves because she probably has a deeply ingrained self-hatred from her childhood. She is such a beautifully tragic character and her arc with Ochako is hands down my favorite in the series in terms of how well it plays to the themes central to MHA's story.
As someone who values trying to understand people to the best of one's ability, this episode actually made me tear up a bit. I already loved Ochako from the beginning of the series but gosh the maturity she undergoes with every season up to this episode makes her such an amazing character❤
Damn, you laid out my feelings on Toga to a T.
