Love how he keeps it soft and not overpowering the song. It’s light and just adds to the feel of the tune.
Yeah! And it has just enough of the main line from the original, so you know it's related. Just a few notes to tell you it's ok, he isn't gonna screw up the song.

There was a point in the later 80's when these 2 amazing talents were often on stage together.
I was very fortunate that year to catch them in NY👍🏼 i actually went all out an secured second row center.😀

My buddy told me that he took guitar lessons a few years back. The teacher asked him, "what do you want to learn?" My buddy said, "I want to play like Mark Knopfler." The guitar teacher leaned in and in a voice just above a whisper said, "we all want to play like Mark Knopfler."

I just saw a woman on IG play Sultans of Swing and she was great - tons of talent - but she couldn't sound like Knopfler, which she was trying to do. I listened hard to give her a chance, but she fell short. Again, she's super talented and I hope she has a great career.

These are the two best performers alive. They never overplay and they are modestly appreciative of each other's talent and growth through the years. I know there could never be one " greatest", there are so many virtuoso guitarists. These two have continued to develope both writing and performing. What a complimentary solo to a very sweet song.!!!

This is literally Mark’s area of jamming. Layla could have musically fit right in with Sultans of Swing (if Dire had created it or even just covered it). Sounds awesome. Both playing off of each other. Such unique styles.
How I missed this tour years ago is beyond me.

Also, you can tell that’s a real 59’ Les Paul because there’s still uneven red near the selector switch from where the price tag used to sit, blocking the UV light.
