Thank you so much for this! Honestly I've been searching RUclips for days trying to work out how to upload my videos to RUclips faster. This has helped me immensely.
This is the go to video for this product. I was really frustrated importing video into music software Pro Tools. I was getting error messages that wouldn't let me import the video. I kinda new what had to be done, but didn't know how to do it. This video explains which format and how to change other settings.....I had spent many hours experimenting and watching other youtube videos blindly. Now I feel I am on the right track and will get the job done! I must have saved 10 of the same videos experimenting and now I can delete them......except the original. LOL. Thank you so much and you ROCK!

I believe that the long video tutorials you make, the most information as a beginners people need to know before rushing and giving up. I really want to thank you so much my friend, now i understand everything and what i need to do, thank you so much ^_^! keep up your great work!
Congratulations. This is by far the most informative tutorial about Handbrake. Some functions could have received a little more attention, but admittedly it is an advanced application with very good quality. And that for free !! No need to buy an expensive brand app.

Derek, I have installed HandBrake many times, each time uninstalling as I did not understand it properly. You have neatly explained everything in Version 1.1.1. Thank you for the tutorial and I no longer need to uninstall again. Whenever you come to know new things, let there be updated Tutorial.
Thank you, a mostly very thorough tutorial, which I did hang into to the bitter end. Okay, I did make a coffee half way through. Thanks for sharing so much excellent information. I was left slightly disappointed however. The main reason I watched this was to learn how to properly use the subtitle tab and you breezed thorough it with barely a mention. So yeah, after hanging in there for almost 30 minutes to get to that little morsel, I was desperately hoping to glean from this, Wha wha wha whaaa! Again it was a very good tutorial, almost. ;)
Not with Handbrake. There is a new free program you may like a lot! borisfx.com/products/particle-illusion/ The BorisFX RUclips channel have tutorials for how to use here: ruclips.net/p/PLhBcSXnaOWWEbpMV4efTPcX8hb8kmk_sa
Cheers :) My health went to shit and I stopped making videos for a long time !! I am back to work now and will be making that video in a few months time. At the moment I have to concentrate on my Vegas Pro tutorials first, then I'll have a look at Handbrake.
I've recently run into an issue with video recorded on my Android phone. The raw video is fine when played in VLC, but when imported to Vegas Pro, the audio and video are out of sync. Would the video settings you recommend be applicable in this situation since the video is already .mp4, to begin with?
Sorry I never replied 4 months ago !!! Most mobile phones record to a Variable Frame Rate. VFR video is no good inside of most Video Editing programs, because it will go out of sync. All video on TV, DVD, Blu-ray and YT uses a Constant frame rate. I highly recommend EVERYONE convert their phone videos into Constant Frame Rate video, before importing into your video editor of choice. Just make sure to definitely select "Constant Frame Rate" in the Handbrake Video tab and make sure the Frame Rate is manually set to match this video. So if the Variable Frame Rate is "around" 60 fps, set to 59.94 in Handbrake. If the VFR is around 30 fps, set to 29.97 fps. After converting, it won't go out of sync in your video editing program :)
@@MovieStudioZen I've started using Davinci Resolve with Filmic Pro on my phone and no longer have the issue. Vegas Pro kept crashing when editing 4k video so I had to find an alternative.
@@CoreyHunter Everyone has different experiences with Vegas Pro, due to the type of 4K video you may be working with and the hardware configuration on your computer - this equals a HUGE variation of factors. 4K video doesn't crash for me in Vegas Pro 17/18. The most important thing is that you found a solution that works best for you. I know a lot of people are now using DaVinci and love it !
thank you so much for this video. I just got a new laptop and the new handbrake update it kind of confused me for a bit as it kept converting stuff to 4x the actual size rather than decreasing the file size this was super helpful
Excellent tutorial Just a bit disappointed about subtitles : i can't find the right subtitle : what's forced only or burned in ? How should i use these items. Thanks a lot !
Hi Derek, Great tutorial. Just installed version 1.4.2 How do you ensure hard coded subtitles are copied when using Handbrake. hope this gets to you as this tutorial is 3 years old.
Thank you for your time! I would like to use Handbrake for converting video to use on twitter or instagram, any sugestion? simple video with presentation made on the old MovieMaker. Thanks in advance.
If you want to make low quality, small size videos, I would recommend you select General Template = Very Fast 480p30 This should produce a small file size that is easy to play. Just remember to manually MATCH the Frame Rate to equal your Source Video's frame rate and also set the Constant Frame Rate.
When you do a batch import from one folder, the videos should stay in the same order they are on your computer. If they are not doing that, it may have something to do with the way your files are named? To fix this, you can add all your videos to the Queue, then open the Queue and re-order by dragging files to new positions.
I think I know what the problem is now. It is to do with how "Windows" sorts file names. When you start a file with 123 Numbers only, you need to use 001, 002, 003, 004 etc... If you use this number sequence, everything should stay in order. However, instead of manually renaming ALL your files, I recommend you try this instead. 1. Go to folder where 1.MTS to 287.MTS is located 2. Highlight all 287 files, by holding shift down and selecting 1st file and then last 3. Now right-click on first file and select RENAME 4. Enter a new name to describe all files and press Enter 5. Windows will now automatically rename files like this: new_file_name(1), new_file_name(2), new_file_name(3),..... 6. Now when you import into Handbrake, they will stay in order.
I have a video request! I'd love it if you could maybe make an in depth tutorial about uprezing a bad quality video (I'm not sure if uprezing is the correct term to use here, but simply put I'd like a video about improving the quality of footage.) Everything from colour correction to sharpness to frame rate increase. I've tried it a few tines and it worked out quite nice but man I would love to learn the proper way from you. Thanks! Edit: I used a few plugins to get the work done 1- Twixtor for frame rate increase 2- Mercalli for stabilisation 3- Vegas colour correction tools 4- Audacity for audio improvements
Love the Stargate Background Gaters gonna gate.....anyway from what im seeing there is no way to tell what the file size will be until after you encode it am i correct...
Yes that is correct - there is no way to predict the size of the file. I found that Stargate background a few years ago and have been gating everyday since!
Hi. Probably a silly question but when converting say an 8GB file to under 4GB to play in fat32 format then on the 'Video' option where there is the 'Quality-Constant Quality' sub option if I selected the maximum Placebo Quality setting would that basically mirror the original file size so therefore I would have to lower it to just under half to get the converted file under 4GB? Many thanks!
Thanks for your excellent tutorial. I have a DJI Mavic Pro drone and a GoPro Hero 7 which have the best camera settings in the H265 mode but I can’t edit or play these in my Adobe video editing software. I can now shoot in H265 and reduce to H264 in Handbrake but can I then do further editing in Adobe?
If I was in your situation, I would use Adobe Media Encoder and convert your GoPro video into Cineform codec first. Then edit all your videos using Cineform. This will give you much better/smoother playback while editing in Premiere. It is NOT a good idea to edit with H.264 if you don't have to, because it is not edit friendly. Handbrake is good for shrinking your final video, if the file size is too big. If you know the tech channel Linus Tech Tips, this is the exact workflow they use for all their videos. Everything they record is converted to Cineform first - this is what they edit with!
6:55 Hi do you have more information on why you say to use mp4 and not mkv when uploading to youtube? Yes mkv isn't listed as being supported, but it seems to upload all the same as better quality than mp4....as mp4 is bad quality to begin with. Is youtube re-encoding the mkv into mp4 and that's why you say don't? Is it because of upload times....? Is it because its harming quality in some way I'm not noticing? youtube is re-encoding everything anyways regardless of it being mp4 or not right? or is it some kind of transcode it does.....? I just don't notice any difference, but I'll run some more tests i guess as I'm having quality problems but that can easily just be due to a lackof vp9 encoding. also wut video settings did you use for this video? or did you use vegas or something
MKV and MP4 are video containers, NOT Video Codecs ! Videos rendered in Handbrake to MKV and MP4 are using the SAME Video Codec. This means there is NO difference in quality between MKV and MP4. MP4 is the better standard to use when uploading video to the Internet.
Hey mate... At 2:44 there's a shot of your desktop with a person reaching into the abyss or portal of some type... Where did you find that image? It's awesome!
There may be a problem in your actual Vegas project that is causing the problem - nothing to do with Handbrake. Turn OFF your GPU. Go to Options/Preferences/Video - GPU Acceleration and set to OFF. Now re-boot Vegas to accept changes, The first thing you should do is try rendering your Vegas project using only Vegas. If you are using v15 or v16 of Vegas, try rendering with MAGIX AVC. If using an older version of Vegas, render with Mainconcept AVC/AAC. It's also a good idea to re-boot your computer before you try a render.
Thnx a lot for sharing this Helpfull Video.......I do shrink video from 23 GB to 8 Gb,it´s wonderfull. Then i shrink a video from 4 GB ans its come out after shrinking as 5,6 GB....Is that Normal or do i something wrong ??
It's hard to say unless I knew everything about the file you are working with and the exact settings you used. Some much smaller file sizes will get bigger after Transcoding a video again, due to the amount of movement in each frame. A video that contains LARGE amounts of fast movement (like gameplay capture), will require much more Bit Rate (file size) to encode the video, otherwise the Video Quality will collapse and become extremely pixeleted and "blocky". It is difficult to compare different Video Codecs and different Settings, because each different Video Codec is using very different algorithms to encode video. Example: H.265 uses much higher compression than H.264. The same video encoded to H.265 will be smaller in file size to H.264 encoding - H.264 will always be bigger! If you tried to convert H.265 to H.264, the file size will probably increase. Last thing to note: RUclips AV1 and VP9 codecs use extremely high compression!!!!
Just downloaded Handbrake to convert h265 to h264 so I can edit in Premier Elements 2019 and your video was very helpful. Thank you for your work and help!!!
*Handbrake on Mac* has an issue of subtitle tracks sections which does not specifically show each language correctly in order to select for *Burned In* when doing with *MKV movies.* I see all available subtitle tracks *appear only* in Chinese or Japanese or Korean even the English subtitle SRT & English chapter SRT. I can't read non-English in this matter. (To import an external SRT into Handbrake to Burned In with the video works fine with SRT Encoding = UTF-8)
You need to turn it ON in the Settings. Go to Tools (top) / Preferences / General At the bottom is User Interface - turn ON "Allow use of Advanced Tab"
NEWSFLASH! It has been removed from the latest build version. I still had the last build version installed and didn't realize it had been removed. There is a discussion about this on the Handbrake forum here: forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38560 Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I will update my online article to explain this. Cheers :)
Agreed: Care needs to be applied when adding sharpness to your encode as this can be overdone so run experiments. Also under the Filter tab I find reducing noise and block artifacts works well. If you are archiving your old DVD movies to mp4/mkv, some releases have not always been transferred with care by the distributor so Handbrake offers the chance for image cleaning. For users, use the preview window to keep an eye on unnecessary cropping and picture frame position in the Dimension tab. Using Handbrake will bring the required experience for this well authored programme. Thanks for uploading - Liked.
Thank you for the video, I pause it a few times and went back to fully understand but now i can do conversions very easily , I have a question, is there a way to remove the vertical lines of a video and convert to landscape mode?
I love your instruction video. good thorough explanation of most features.. Just one small remark is that most non-english countries that do use the original english audio tracks do work a lot with subtitles. As for me I am Dutch and in The Netherlands most movies (except for young children) are kept in the original language and subtitles are a very common thing, unlike Germany where many movies are dubbed to German. So I would have loved to see a bit more info about the subtitle part f.e. the selection forced only, burned in and default. Now I do know what they do, but I have heard non-english speakers that were not to sure what to chose there and if multiple options to choose or just one.. etc.. Other than that I think it is an outstanding video! you have my thanks
@6:07 on your timeline, you said to CLICK "START QUEUE". Mine doesn't say start Queue. IT SAYS "Start Encoding". WHY DOES IT SAY THIS instead of Start Queue?

Hello my friend, I hope that you and your family are doing well through this CV situation. I have a couple questions for you regarding Movie Studio Platinum 12. I have used Movie Studio Platinum 12 for several years and I really love it, but I ran into some problems recently and I purchased and have been using the newer version Movie Studio 16 Suite. I like Movie Studio 16 Suite and I don’t like it sometimes too. :) The main reason that I purchased the updated version was because Movie Studio Platinum 12 would keep crashing/closing my project and showing: Problem Report: “Movie Studio Platinum Has Stopped Working” This message would often appear when I would use the NewBlue Titler EX generators. I could never figure out why and I still can’t. I was wondering if you had any suggestions. I really like the freedom of Movie Studio Platinum 12 when using the NewBlue Titling, for me I can do so much more with it, it seems. The new version, Movie Studio 16 Suite, seems to be mainly automated and somewhat limiting, unless I just don’t know how to modify it yet. My other question is, would you be able to help me locate the file folder for the Movie Studio Platinum 12 that stores the texture images for the titling? For some strange reason mine will not default to the folder holding them anymore. Would you be able to guide me to that folder or perhaps to a place to access some nice textures for lettering for Movie Studio Platinum 12? Thank you very much for time and help as always and I wish you well! Cheers, Jerimy at Little Drummer Channel ✌😎
Somehow I missed your message when you posted it months ago - sorry about that ! Certain older versions of New Blue Titler EX caused many crashes with Vegas !!!! One thing I always recommend when Vegas stops working properly, is to try a full program reset. This cleans the temporary files cache and also restores ALL settings back to default values. Reset instructions here: www.moviestudiozen.com/doctor-zen-faq/573-how-to-reset-sony-software-to-default-settings#a1 After not making any new tutorials in a very long time, I am about to return to regular uploads. I will be making new beginners guides for last couple of versions and explain all the new features. Version 16 is much more powerful compared to v12 - it is more customizable! I no longer have v12 installed, so I don't know where files would be - sorry.
@@MovieStudioZen thank you my friend for your time and attention! It means a lot to me. I will be looking forward to your upcoming videos! Take care and I wish you and yours the very best!!
is there a troubleshooting link? When I rip my homemade dvd's it is not ripping complete episodes. Say I have 7 episodes of a show, the first 2 may rip in entirety but episode 3 maybe only 12 min. are ripped, episode 4, only 8 min. ripped, episode 5 the entire episode is ripped, ep 6 maybe 6 min. & so on. What am I doing wrong or what is happening? When I play said dvd on PC or in DVD player, all episodes play perfectly. Driving me nutty!
Great video. I have an Olympus Camera that makes movies ONLY in Apple's .MOV format. Now, in 2019, Adobe Premier Elements and Windows 10 won't use that format, so I have to use Handbrake to convert the .mov files to mp4 for use in PE.
this is the Most best hand brake tutorial break down video, that I found on youtube....thank you so much... The 32 other video tutorials...just say do this, change that...i don't know what it means, but click this and haven't the foggest on this section, best to leave it.....tap this button ...but I can't explain what it is...cause i am stupid.....and i am copying other people...etc etc.. no research on the program, no reviewing other presets on youtube, ....and before you know it...it fraks up your video and default settings...LOL 15:08 LOL....showing off your age ..lol 24:39 ...Question 1 = In the AUDIO section....does changing the 160 to 128 ...will that lessen the file size as well...???
Cheers :) This is the BEST comment I've read for quite some time! My philosophy is to never skip any steps. Yes, setting Audio to 128 kbps will shrink the file size by a small amount, however I think audio is really important to keep as best as possible. Technically speaking, 192 kbps is the Gold standard (minimum) for audio in a video file. However, when you inspect a lot of videos on the Internet, 128 kbps is quite common - the choice is yours.
so i ripped a few anime discs that are English dub but have Japanese subtitles that only come on when there are Japanese characters on screen. how do i keep these subtitles in the video? every time i use handbrake it removes these subtitles
I would recommend using a different program called MKVToolnix and creating .MKV videos instead - that's what I do for all my Subtitled Movies. To do this, you will need the .srt or .sub subtitle Text File for the movie. Download MKVToolnix from here - Windows Installer (64 bit) is the most common. www.fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html Open program, right-click in top left window (Source Files) and import .mp4 video and .srt subtitle file. Go to Properties on right side and set Language = English Set Force Track flag = Yes Go to bottom and set output folder Then press Start Multiplexing That's it !
I noticed that the save as the directory has been autofilled as is the name of the file. On mine it is blank and can be repetitive when doing a batch coverion.
@@MovieStudioZen I'm trying to compress a 20min video and followed through your suggestions and it only does about 7min 59 seconds worth of it. It keeps reading that "queue is finished with 1 error or cancellation"
1. Open the Queue (press CTRL + Q) and make sure to DELETE anything that may have been left behind from earlier attempts. 2. Also re-boot your computer. 3. Underneath "Open Source" it says "Source". Underneath Source it says Title, Angle, Range...Make sure that the range is set to cover ALL of your video and not just part of it. 4. If there is an error in your original video, it may be impossible to convert. 5. If you still need help, post a message on the Handbrake forum here: forum.handbrake.fr/
@@MovieStudioZen You're awesome thanks for the reply. Should I delete the previous attempted videos in the folder destination when video is completed also? I click the Range section and it's on Chapters. There's also choice of Seconds or Frames. I'm not sure which one would fall under covering the WHOLE video. Also, I tried doing it on a 3 minute video and it gave me the same prompt before you gave me the list of corrections so it's doing it with any duration. I'll try your tips out👍
Always delete any new videos that didn't encode properly. The default Range setting is Chapters and it is best to leave it on this setting if you want to encode the whole video. However if you set it to Seconds or Frames and have the wrong setting, it will only encode part of your video. Make sure you are NOT running out of Hard Drive space. If you keep getting an error message, I don't know what would be causing that. That is why I recommend you post your problem on the official Handrake Forum, where you should get more expert helpers. That is the best I can do for you.
Hi and thank you for tutorial. I do not understand where it is going wrong for me. Yesterday the first time I used Handbrake, it downloaded ok. But now every time, it only encodes the video and download it to a text file that then says " Quick time can not open files in the data format." DO you have any suggestion what I have done wrong? I haven't touched any settings. Hope you can advise. Best regards Eva
Great tutorial! Will this software remove Compression Artifacts those annoying dark swirls which plague most videos and movies seen online? They tend to be seen on dark areas of the video. Will it do it without softening down faint detail, please?
If the original video already has compression artefacts "baked" into the video, using Handbrake is not going to magically remove damage. However, where Handbrake is very good, is compressing videos without creating "new" artefacts. Handbrake is great at compressing fast moving scenes, without adding nasty pixelation. Experiment and you will get your answers.
Hi, how can you convert video files recorded in LG Smart TVs on my PC? They produce a buh of files. And the largest files are the .str files. I'm hoping to get some help to know how to convert tv recordings to files playable on PCs and phones.
Hands down. Best handbrake tutorial that I’ve found thus far. Question, I’m new to RUclips as far as uploading game play videos of me gaming. As my process sits right now, I record out of ShadowPlay and have all my settings to where I need it to be. 1080, 60fps, and 50mbs (bitrate?) shadow play only records in variable so sometimes I must convert my videos via handbrake due to audio dysnc, after this video I realized I’ve been doing it all wrong :D. But once I’ve converted my video video via handbrake I then edit it via adobe premiere. Once I’m done there, I bring it into the adobe media encoder, my question is, am I doing too many encoding steps, and if so, can I just do it all via handbrake one time only and then upload after I’m done in post via premiere pro? Or should I be encoding it twice? Any help is greatly appreciated!
If the DVD is using "Copy Protection", it may be impossible to open the DVD in Handbrake. You will have to use an alternate program that can decode the copy protection. There are many different programs that can do this type of thing. Try WinX DVD Ripper www.winxdvd.com/resource/free-dvd-ripper-software-for-copy-protected-dvds.htm
I wish you had covered subtitles a bit more at length as I am like you... but here in west we get many movies from the east with terrible subtitles actually hardcoded IN the movie... so removing subtitles I assume and running handbreak to render a video file... then doing it again while adding any good copy (srt file) back along with it... is this correct sir?
I also have a large collection of foreign language movies. Personally I don't use Handbrake to add Subtitle files. I only use Handbrake to reduce size of video. Instead of using Handbrake to add .srt files, I convert all my films with subtitles into .mkv video files using a program called MKVToolnix. When you use MKVToolnix, you import the video file and separate .srt file. You then "multiplex" the 2 files into a .mkv file. Multiplexing does NOT re-render the video - it simply places the video and srt file into a .MKV container - the process takes only a few seconds. The advantage of using this technique, is that you can easily swap out the .srt file if it has mistakes with a new srt file and only takes a few seconds. Download MKVToolnix from here: Windows Installer (64bit) is the one to get. www.fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html After you install, import video and srt into INPUT window. Set DESTINATION & Name. Then Start Multiplexing.
*NEWSFLASH!* The *Advanced tab* has been removed from the latest build version of Handbrake!

Thanks for the reply. I am glad that you are healthy again and will make more videos.
1 of the better tutorials out there, great job!
Glad it was helpful!
Such an amazing tutorial, thanks! I have tested every beta of Handbrake from the past, but now i got the new one, and it's really good!
Thank you :)
Well done. Thanks for being so thorough.
Cheers :)
Very well explained - Thank you, Derek!

Hi Derek, Great beginners tutorial for handbrake ...thank you. Do you have any other handbrake tutorials? Cheers, Garry
What a brilliant informative video! This is exactly what I was looking for after using Handbrake a few times already.
Thank you :)
@@MovieStudioZen it took some getting used to, but now I like it.
thank you so much for this video. I just got a new laptop and the new handbrake update it kind of confused me for a bit as it kept converting stuff to 4x the actual size rather than decreasing the file size this was super helpful
Yes I was still listening. Great tutorial. If I should ever need to use handbrake I now know how! Thanks a lot!
Cheers :)
Great tutorial. Best one on RUclips. Now I've just got to learn it! thanks mate.
Thanks :)
What is the best handbrake video settings if I'm converting a 1080 60 fps video from my iPhone into an MP4 for edit on Premiere Pro? Thanks!
Start with Fast 1080p30 template and then manually set Frame Rate = Constant, 59.94 fps.
very god. Thank you very much. Almost watched everything!

Hello. Your personal secrets for background change? Thank you.
Thanks! Great tips! I love the 'more advanced' part of the video! :)
This has been great!
Thanks :)
Excellent tutorial
Just a bit disappointed about subtitles : i can't find the right subtitle : what's forced only or burned in ? How should i use these items.
Thanks a lot !
I watched this entire video just to learn how to delay my subtitle timing only to go ahead and for him to say delete it
Thanks .... it is very informative for a first time user
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Derek, Great tutorial. Just installed version 1.4.2 How do you ensure hard coded subtitles are copied when using Handbrake. hope this gets to you as this tutorial is 3 years old.
Great information a few things I didn't know even though have been using Handbreak since it came out. What is the newest version?
Brilliant video, answered all my questions thanks.
Thank you for your time! I would like to use Handbrake for converting video to use on twitter or instagram, any sugestion? simple video with presentation made on the old MovieMaker. Thanks in advance.
If you want to make low quality, small size videos, I would recommend you select General Template = Very Fast 480p30
This should produce a small file size that is easy to play. Just remember to manually MATCH the Frame Rate to equal your Source Video's frame rate and also set the Constant Frame Rate.
Learned a lot from this tutorial.
Cheers :)
Thank you for the tutorial!
I watched the whole thing!
Very helpful.
Great and informative video, can you tell me if there is a way to keep the files in order when you import them?
When you do a batch import from one folder, the videos should stay in the same order they are on your computer. If they are not doing that, it may have something to do with the way your files are named?
To fix this, you can add all your videos to the Queue, then open the Queue and re-order by dragging files to new positions.
@@MovieStudioZen Hi, thank you very much for replying, I have 287 MTS files. Numbered 1.MTS to 287.MTS. When I import them they are all jumbled up.
1. Go to folder where 1.MTS to 287.MTS is located
2. Highlight all 287 files, by holding shift down and selecting 1st file and then last
3. Now right-click on first file and select RENAME
4. Enter a new name to describe all files and press Enter
5. Windows will now automatically rename files like this: new_file_name(1), new_file_name(2), new_file_name(3),.....
6. Now when you import into Handbrake, they will stay in order.
@@MovieStudioZen Hi, no that hasn't worked either, very annoying. Thank you very much for replying.
I have a video request!
I'd love it if you could maybe make an in depth tutorial about uprezing a bad quality video (I'm not sure if uprezing is the correct term to use here, but simply put I'd like a video about improving the quality of footage.)
Everything from colour correction to sharpness to frame rate increase. I've tried it a few tines and it worked out quite nice but man I would love to learn the proper way from you.
Thanks!
Edit: I used a few plugins to get the work done
1- Twixtor for frame rate increase
2- Mercalli for stabilisation
3- Vegas colour correction tools
4- Audacity for audio improvements
Love the Stargate Background Gaters gonna gate.....anyway from what im seeing there is no way to tell what the file size will be until after you encode it am i correct...
Yes that is correct - there is no way to predict the size of the file.
I found that Stargate background a few years ago and have been gating everyday since!
Well done. Good overview of the Handbrake application. Perhaps the best part, is the reduction of file size. Thx, AF~
Thanks :)
No! Constant Quality does not equal a mirror quality video - it doesn't work like that.
Placebo quality can end up being insanely LARGE.
thank you for teaching.
The Best Handbreak Guide ,, ty sir
Glad it was helpful!
excellent teaching video which makes using Handbrake so much easier - Thank you.
Hey mate... At 2:44 there's a shot of your desktop with a person reaching into the abyss or portal of some type... Where did you find that image? It's awesome!
Thanks for youre good explaination.👍 I followed all you’re tutorial but the encode failed what todo? Sincerely Jos
There may be a problem in your actual Vegas project that is causing the problem - nothing to do with Handbrake. Turn OFF your GPU. Go to Options/Preferences/Video - GPU Acceleration and set to OFF. Now re-boot Vegas to accept changes,
The first thing you should do is try rendering your Vegas project using only Vegas. If you are using v15 or v16 of Vegas, try rendering with MAGIX AVC. If using an older version of Vegas, render with Mainconcept AVC/AAC.
It's also a good idea to re-boot your computer before you try a render.
I allready solvet the problem. I use Adobe Premiere for my filmprojects. 🙏 👍😃
Thank you very much👍🤗
This was extremely helpful for me

Great Video. Thanks Kindly Mate.
Cheers :)
I have sooo many Korean movies I am about to run through this ...TY soo much !!
(To import an external SRT into Handbrake to Burned In with the video works fine with SRT Encoding = UTF-8)
thanks heaps. learned heaps even tho i have a later version and simply CANNOT locate the advanced tab!
You need to turn it ON in the Settings.
Go to Tools (top) / Preferences / General
At the bottom is User Interface - turn ON "Allow use of Advanced Tab"
sorry zen cannot see any user interface or allow advanced tab options. thanks anyway.
NEWSFLASH! It has been removed from the latest build version. I still had the last build version installed and didn't realize it had been removed.
There is a discussion about this on the Handbrake forum here:

Thanks for drawing my attention to this. I will update my online article to explain this.

@@MovieStudioZen thanks zen. i thought i was going crazy there for a minute haha. all the best. apppreciate your work
Agreed: Care needs to be applied when adding sharpness to your encode as this can be overdone so run experiments.
Thank you......video is very informative.

You're a great teacher!
Thanks :)
Thank you for the video, I pause it a few times and went back to fully understand but now i can do conversions very easily , I have a question, is there a way to remove the vertical lines of a video and convert to landscape mode?
You need to use a Video Editing program if you want to zoom in on 4:3 and create a 16:9 Aspect Ratio video.
@@MovieStudioZen thanks, any recomendations?
Thanks for the video. (have to say I wouldnt have survived without youtube's 2x speed option :P )
What a great video !!

Have you installed the NEW 1.1.1 version of Handbrake ?

Hello my friend, I hope that you and your family are doing well through this CV situation.
I have a couple questions for you regarding Movie Studio Platinum 12.
I have used Movie Studio Platinum 12 for several years and I really love it, but I ran into some problems recently and I purchased and have been using the newer version Movie Studio 16 Suite.
I like Movie Studio 16 Suite and I don’t like it sometimes too. :)
The main reason that I purchased the updated version was because Movie Studio Platinum 12 would keep crashing/closing my project and showing: Problem Report: “Movie Studio Platinum Has Stopped Working”
This message would often appear when I would use the NewBlue Titler EX generators.
Cheers,
Jerimy at Little Drummer Channel ✌😎
Somehow I missed your message when you posted it months ago - sorry about that !
Certain older versions of New Blue Titler EX caused many crashes with Vegas !!!!
One thing I always recommend when Vegas stops working properly, is to try a full program reset.
This cleans the temporary files cache and also restores ALL settings back to default values.
Reset instructions here:

After not making any new tutorials in a very long time, I am about to return to regular uploads.

Now, in 2019, Adobe Premier Elements and Windows 10 won't use that format, so I have to use Handbrake to convert the .mov files to mp4 for use in PE.

no research on the program, no reviewing other presets on youtube, ....and before you know it...it fraks up your video and default settings...LOL
15:08 LOL....showing off your age ..lol
24:39 ...Question 1 = In the AUDIO section....does changing the 160 to 128 ...will that lessen the file size as well...???
Cheers :) This is the BEST comment I've read for quite some time!
My philosophy is to never skip any steps.
Yes, setting Audio to 128 kbps will shrink the file size by a small amount, however I think audio is really important to keep as best as possible. Technically speaking, 192 kbps is the Gold standard (minimum) for audio in a video file. However, when you inspect a lot of videos on the Internet, 128 kbps is quite common - the choice is yours.
@@MovieStudioZen Thank you for your rapid response....I have written down , all your preset changes for quick reference , just in case....

If you save dvd as fast 1080 can you pick the file from your computer and go through hand brake and change a copy of it to 480 andriod???
so i ripped a few anime discs that are English dub but have Japanese subtitles that only come on when there are Japanese characters on screen. how do i keep these subtitles in the video? every time i use handbrake it removes these subtitles
I would recommend using a different program called MKVToolnix and creating .MKV videos instead - that's what I do for all my Subtitled Movies. To do this, you will need the .srt or .sub subtitle Text File for the movie.
Download MKVToolnix from here - Windows Installer (64 bit) is the most common.
www.fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html
Open program, right-click in top left window (Source Files) and import .mp4 video and .srt subtitle file.
Go to Properties on right side and set Language = English
Set Force Track flag = Yes
Go to bottom and set output folder
Then press Start Multiplexing
That's it !
I noticed that the save as the directory has been autofilled as is the name of the file. On mine it is blank and can be repetitive when doing a batch coverion.
I watched the whole thing!! 👍👍👍📽📽📽
Cool :)
@@MovieStudioZen Thank you.

Hi, how can you convert video files recorded in LG Smart TVs on my PC? They produce a buh of files. And the largest files are the .str files. I'm hoping to get some help to know how to convert tv recordings to files playable on PCs and phones.
Alpha Channel videos-(footages without BG),is this possible Bro?
Another gem! Thanks so much!! 👍✌
Do you cover how to convert DVDs to mp4? I'm having trouble with it.
If the DVD is using "Copy Protection", it may be impossible to open the DVD in Handbrake.
You will have to use an alternate program that can decode the copy protection.
There are many different programs that can do this type of thing.
Try WinX DVD Ripper
www.winxdvd.com/resource/free-dvd-ripper-software-for-copy-protected-dvds.htm
Download MKVToolnix from here:
Windows Installer (64bit) is the one to get.
www.fosshub.com/MKVToolNix.html
After you install, import video and srt into INPUT window. Set DESTINATION & Name. Then Start Multiplexing.
Thank you so much for doing this video, your explanation is so good and easy to follow.
