Thanks for the video! 😊 Would a master's degree in biomedical sciences count as an advanced degree?
It definitely could.
Hi Dr. Nonterah,
I graduated with a BS in Biology in 2020. I've wanted to be a science or medical writer for as long as I can remember, but find that I don't have the GPA (I believe I graduated with a 2.5) that most research - oriented universities want, nor any research experience. How would you suggest the best way to go about breaking into a program/gaining relevant experience before applying to an advanced degree program? I live in the US.
Thank you so much for your videos by the way. I have no idea how I found your videos, but am so glad I did! I must have shared your channel to 5 different people in the same boat as me LOL.
Hi Leah - I think there are post-baccalaureate programs you can apply to in order to strengthen your application to advanced programs. My recommendation is to look those up. Another recommendation: if you want to get into medical or science writing, one of the best things you can do is begin writing so you can show people you can write. You don’t need an advanced degree to do this and it could enhance your chances for getting in the door. All the best to you.
hey,
I am a non-medical person with a Master’s in Marketing, and I have been working in content writing and research for over 10 years. My experience includes SEO, blogs, copywriting, marketing content, and nearly all types of writing-related tasks.
Can I pursue a career in medical writing with my hands-on writing experience? Will this field be as open to me as it is to someone with a medical background?
Thank you in advance for your sincere advice.
As more and more people with medical backgrounds come into this career path, it is becoming harder for people who don't have these backgrounds. But if it is something you want and can demonstrate the needed knowledge there are pockets of this career path that could open up to you. All the best!
Hello, I don’t know if it helps but I have emt experience, wondering if that will help. Im trying to get into medical writing. Love you videos by the way, super informative!
Glad you love my videos. Thank you. Regardless of what background you have, hiring managers want to see some evidence you can write the documents they need.
Hi! I really hope you see this! I enjoyed your videos and I was wondering would it be possible for me to break into medical or science writing with a PhD in Health Communications and a Master's in Psychology? I was looking into this career path and it looks like a pretty good fit for me but I was wondering if I will have a good foundation to break into it.
Hello. Yes, I think you have a good foundation for medical/science writing.
@@TheBoldPhD Thank you for responding so quickly! This really helps me visualize what I want to do one day!
well I dont have a phd, can I break into medical writing? Will I get my promotion after gaining experience? is PhD really mandatory for a career growth in medical writing ?
1. Yes you can. 2. Depends on the promotion structure of the company 3. No.
I have an associates degree in Biology and I am graduating from Medical School in Costa Rica this year. I do not have any experience besides my training. Do you think I can start looking for jobs right away?
Do you have any writing experience? Then it may be hard to break in with just your degrees. It is not always about your degree but the ability to write the kinds of documents the company needs. Also there are different kinds of medical writing and so you need to decide on that so you can familiarize yourself with the common types of documents each of them write. If you haven't, I encourage you to watch my playlist on breaking into medical writing. All the best.
