Dust explosion. Very common danger in locations that operate in or around extremely fine dust particles. Everything from Grain elevators and flour mills to granaries, sawmills and sugar, processing companies. Anything that creates an extremely fine form of dust always runs the risk of creating a dust explosion. Now would it work in the fashion that she made it in? Honestly, probably not. She probably would’ve had to kick the crate a little bit to actually get some of the dust particles in the air. Overall, though the principal is the same. I’ve been a firefighter for several years. My father was a firefighter before me. He and I both know the dangers of dust explosions. One of them actually killed one of my uncles.
It's so dangerous the concept is even used in military weapons. Russia operates a weapon system called the TOS-1 that basically fires rockets with these powder explosives in. This is the thing that you'll hear news sources calling a flamethrower, but it's basically the same concept except with some slightly spicier powder than flour.
I've actually read of people who were just pouring flour, sugar, etc. and it exploded in their face because there was an open flame somewhere close to them. So this is not as 'suspend disbelief' as some would think.
Not only that, but she had the “other guy/guard ”, the random guy/guard who DOESN’T know her, PREPARE buckets of water BEFOREHAND. MaoMao probably, in to DID know that Lihaku wouldn’t listen to her and prepared for that eventuality. Like “See? I knew you were gonna be stupid and not listen. You understand? I WILL LIE to MY SISTER, is that CLEAR?!”
When Maomao told you to "stand back" you stand back. Seriously, she knows what will happen be dangerous. But I guess some people don't listen to the professionals
Technically she’s a professional Lady in Waiting, not munitions manufacturer or something. Considering what some of the Ladies in Waiting do though, that should have made him much, much more afraid.
The way Maomao ran after dropping the lighter was funny. And the way she looked at Lihaku after throwing water at him was also funny. She literally told him that it was dangerous and he didn't take her warning seriously.
yea and my question is........will he trust her the next time she tells him it is dangerous or will he stand there like a stump and get exploded again.
Random fact about dust explosions: it isnt only grain type dusts that explode, even iron and steel dusts can explode as both are actually flammable when made small enough, though it does require high heats
She literally got sold to the Inner Palace and was like, “I’ll just work my time and get out in a few years. No big deal.” She is the epitome of “go with the flow”.
This is so historically accurate: Alchemists were (you guessed it! *CHEMISTS* and gunpowder was known by the Middle Kingdom/Yellow Kingdom/Ancient China, therefore also came to the Japanese before the Portuguese ever set foot there. So they dabbled in the creation of both fireworks and bombs.
That wasn't gunpowder though. It was flour. Many places with storerooms has to learn it the hard way that storing and handling flour or grains wrong can be very explosive.
Here's another example of how Maomao's description of Lihaku as a "dog" is spot-on: He's very curious about Maomao's strange contstruction and doesn't sense the danger until it's too late🐶🤣
Honestly, even if you've never seen them, wouldn't it be wise to assume they have pockets? Why would people just stuff things up their sleeve and try to balance them all day long?

He only knows her as a poison taster with connections to a high class brothel. It seems he isn't aware of her intelligence or training, so it probably led him to underestimate her. The other guy, on the other hand, only knew her from that moment, and probably noticed she seems more knowledgeable than a typical servant girl. He was probably looking for an excuse to get some distance even before she said anything. Of course, "me macho military man" probably had a hand in his refusal to listen to her as well. I'd hope having his eyebrows singed off taught him something.
The funniest thing I find about Lihaku is that he shares his name with the most famous poet in China, yet is a soldier here. I don't know if it was coincidence or not.
It IS the joke (Li Bai is still a huge part of language arts in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese), as the author herself had mentioned a few times on her blogs for the original web novel.
Flour doesn't explode if it just sits on the bottom. It has to be in the air to create an explosion. Chances are, it won't explode IRL or if it does, the damage would be very small, not as big as they animated it. Area inside the box is too small to create any significant explosion. I could be wrong, but something tells me I am not.
