For anyone curious, Ox Bile supplements are used to help with digestion, reduce inflammation, and improve nutrient absorption, and is still used to this day. Ox bile comes from the ox's gall bladder. An ox bezoar is a gallstone, basically a solid mass of concentrated bile, and has a ton of medical uses. Before we knew how to intentionally induce them, they were rare and insanely valuable during this time period. Even now, high quality ones go for $150 per gram. So, this reaction is appropriate.

Fun fact: Mao is the Chinese word for Cat, Mao (猫), and MaoMao (猫猫) though is also how you say cat is also the Chinese onomatopoeic for the sound a cat makes like "Meow" or "Nyaa." So MaoMao is in all forms of the word a Cat.

It's hard to maintain his persona around the girl who's entirely unaffected by it and doesn't really care either way, especially since he himself earns far more trouble from that persona than it's really worth to him.
