A diesel has to be built much stronger than a petrol engine due to the high compression ratios necessary for spontanious combustion to occur. They need extra boost to make them efficient. Wastegate settings are easy to manipulate to make more boost. When these things are "rolling coal" they are wasting energy. I love big HP machines. Love to get the most out of all of them. Black smoke is wasted energy. Idiot kids think it's cool. You just lost another 200 hp making smoke.
