This game deserves a reboot so it can make use of modern technology. The original was so great and was so clearly stifled by the technology on which it was built.

What bothers me the most is that they had this wonderful soundtrack in their first game and would go on to use absolutely 0% of the original soundtrack in the sequel. Not even a simple melodic callback to the first soundtrack. Nothing

Here here man. I tried so hard to like Mercenaries 2 but apart from blowing up the Oil Rigs, it just didn't seal the deal for me as Mercenaries 1 did. It's a real shame that Mercenaries 2 seemed to focus more on sunny scripted lines you'd hear over and over again. Real fucking shame.

Well what most game devs do is they want to make a the sequals almost completely different from the first game just to be more creative and original

This is the same guy who composed the medal of honor theme music
And Call of Duty's soundtrack.
That's interesting because some songs in Mercenaries POD remind me of parts of the MOH:Frontline soundtrack.
I love how Giacchino uses the strings in this piece. Absolutely stunning.

I totally agree, music doesn't only come to the ears, but it also comes to the eyes. Watching how those perfectly orchestrated sounds are made. Ahhh... isn't music delicious?

One of my favorite games, it really put you right in the middle of a korean war and everything feels authentic. You can feel the dread and hate between the two koreas and between japan, more often you see them fighting. And the graphics were mind blowing for it's time, if only I can play it now.

It works on a xbox 1s thanks to backwards compatibility

Insane nostalgia
This game is going on 20 years old now, and IMO it still has one of the best OSTs of all time. All of the feel, the emotion is there, and its the work of genuine people with minimal editing to the score. They dont make them like this anymore.

Holy shit this is amazing! I never saw a video of it being played by instruments. Only form the menu or just the OST. But this kind of immerses you even more with the music and instruments itself.
I don't know if it's just because I played the game and know with what to associate the music with, but to me it sounds so North/South Korean and somehow western and russian too. It fits to all the factions from the game. A perfect blend.
What a great game it was. Ahead of it's time. I have so many memories with it and hearing this brings back so much nostalgia...
I hope we can, someday, get a remake or a new part of this game series...
I agree, the sound fits the atmosphere and surroundings of the game so well. I wish more documenting was done during recordings of soundtracks like this.
Long gone are the days of epic musical scores for videogames.

That's one of the things I miss most about older games. It's rare to have soundtracks performed with a live orchestra unless it's a fantasy game. Shooters and other genres feel so lifeless with generic techno/rock themes all the time.

I make an exception for Battlefield 3. It pretty much rewrote the book on generic techno rock themes, and thus was the only game to do it right.

E P I C, and only now I understand that you were the director for this video. I enjoyed how the cameras followed the active instruments, I've always been curious on which instruments were used to produce that violin "pizzicato".

Hasn't any of you felt something when you listen the OSTs from Michael Giacchino? Something like...flying when you listen those...strong/powerful sounds?
I STILL love this theme, and I wish I still had a copy of the game so that I could relive the fun of winching cars across North Korea... or gathering/ordering a bunch of civilian cars, winching them so that they turn into a tower of cars, and then call in an airstrike to blow it all up! Also Chris Tilton was the guy who orchestrated this piece and the rest of the music (I think)... Michael Giacchino wrote the themes.
Hey man I know this comment is 5 years old and all but if you own a Xbox 360 or ps3 or Xbox one you can pick it up digitally sadly no pc and ps4 port..
