it is indeed a great lens, i use it alot for foxes at night time as well as portrait / model work, it turns night into daytime without any lighting equipment. its heavy but due to its short length it handles very well on a small camera, i use mine on the canon M50 oh and thanks for the date ref on the lens mount, never knew that!!

It works great with the R5! The only thing that may not work as consistently is the eye-AF in video, but in my experience the lens performed better on my R5 than the 5DSr.
I shoot with an R5 & R6... And I had been looking at this lens since I been on my 6DMKII. I no longer have EF lenses.. but.. but.. I do have my adapters. And I have a buddy that is selling one in great condition for $700.. delicious
a mirrorless version of this lens would be half the weight and size. Just look at how much smaller the sigma 85mm 1.4 mirrorless version is compared to the DSLR version. Also this lens has horrible flare when pointed right at the sun or any backlit conditions. Using an extra long hood can help. Nikon 105 is much smaller and better flare!
But 105mm Bigma is optically superior to both HSM version and DG DN version 85mm F1.4. The design of this lens is not like HSM version of 85mm, it is coming from Sigma's cine series of lens, 40mm and 28mm F1.4 are coming from the same family of lenses.
Nah. Sigma's 85mm for DSLR and for mirrorless are very different lenses from the construction point of view. Not because of the DSLR vs ML use but because of the design approach. So the ML version of 105/1.4 would be approx the same size and weight if it came from the same design approach. Those DLST versions are much better technically / optically. You are right about the flare / mist when strong light source comes directly to the 105/1.4. But this can be either avoided by more suitable composition or used creatively. I love it when shooting backlit sunset portraits. Nikon 105/1.4 is clearly lower league. It handles direct light better but that is its only advantage. Otherwise is much less sharp and contrasty wide opened, vignetts much more, has CA issues... But costs 500 USD more...
This lens is incredibly sharp even if you shoot from a distance wide open. I have both Sony and Canon version of this lens. It is definitely an eye catching lens as it looks like a mini bazooka with such a large front element. I have own a couple of Bigma like their old 135mm, 85mm, 40mm, 28mm. Optically they are as good as any as the other. I use these lenses to complement the missing focal lengths for my Fujifilm GFX system.
Well, actually I love it on events, weddings etc. Once people acknowledge there is a photographer on the venue, lenses themselves do not attach any interest. Meaning there is no difference in audience attention if I have this 105/1.4 od smallish lens.
I'm 53 and find I prefer a heavier lens. Less shake. Toting it around all day really doesn't bother me. I just think people should do some push-ups and swing their purse harder I they find carrying something lighter than a baby just too much for them.
I use Bigmas on the Fujifilm GFX, this one, 85mm and 135mm cover the large fujifilm MF sensor.

liked for “chonky,” one of my favorite words, lol. glad i stumbled across this lens on my journey of transferring to mirrorless
I think both the 105 f1. 4 and 135 f1. 8 ART are interchangeable and works both similar ways and can complement the 85mm so well
Sigma 105mm vs Sigma 85mm which is buying for wedding photography and fashion photography
Well done Johnny..........you made my mouth water,I'll own it by 7-4-2022..........thanks again

I used the lens on a Nikon and it was awesome, super excellent 🎖️🥇
Same here .
I'm looking to buy this lens for my canon R5... can you please share your experience using it with new canon cameras such as the R5!

Johnny - so my question is Sigma 105/f1.4 or Sigma 135/f1.8. I want to use on a 1dx3
Great review Will this lens work on my Canon 5D Mark IV full frame??

Just Purchased!
Hi bought mine in June 2021 at Adorama open box model so about 300 USD of the price but I have it for F mount and more than happy with it !
Great deal!
Great video
Indeed it is not intended for street or candid photography. It would be too eye-catching for its huge size and intruding for many events.
the nikon 105mm 1.4 is half the size and if a mirrorless version comes out it will be even smaller.

still the king 2023 ,best for sessions photos
Totally agree!
