Would be nice to have an actual portable gaming device that fits in my pocket or bag easily.

Check out the GPD Win 4. Pricy as hell and runs windows but it’s pretty small compared to most current “handhelds” and has more power than most of the competition still. Even looks like a modern PSP or PS Vita, albeit not quite as compact but pretty close compared to say an ROG Ally or Steam Deck, or even a Switch.

The stupid Jim comment was funny, and how there's already three things called PSP.
Since the Steam Deck exists I don't see the point of this. Unless they give a great reason to get it, I'll probably ignore it.

Exclusives thats it also the Steam Deck is catered for the different market like hardcore or tech savy people meanwhile the Switch and PSP3 is for casual plug and play people with exclusives
Portable that is not a Deck sells well because of exclusives

The steam deck is not a portable console, also barely anyone is buying it.

@@dxtremecaliber Steam deck has more exclusives than Switch or PSP3 will. As in, a lot of games are playable on Steam Deck that aren't on either of those.
Also Steam Deck is very plug and play. People can mess with it if they want but absolutely do not have to.

The main issue is that the PC handhelds can do all PS emulation "at your own risk/quality" along with native PS4 era games.
Where the PS5 does not and/or at arguable quality outside the 4.
The portal is a really cool added value for people who already enjoyed remote play since early PS4 days, but if the PS5 could run all PS games, it would be lot more valuable experience, especially when modern games are always less appealing, and people searching for old 1-3 ones.

  • @calculateddeclination5534

I can just remote play on my ps vita with my remote play grip. It's modded so I downloaded a plugin a while back that forces remote play controls (l2,r2,l3,r3) to be mapped on the back touchpad. Without that plugin, some games use the front touchscreen for l2,r2,l3,r3.

With the Steam Deck and Switch and the next Nintendo being a thing, Sony would be entering a very difficult market. It’d be like pushing a boulder up a steep hill.

  • @BebopMansion

I think they'll also want to push their PS+ subscriptions (in addition to sales). That console will probably be able to use the cloud streaming service and/or premium benefits of playing the retro ps1-ps2-ps3 library.

I think Sony would do better just porting old first party games to Switch/Switch 2. Then there wouldn't be any hardware overhead.
Sony seems to think new hardware is what they need to revitalize sales, but I know a lot of people who still play on their PS4. PSVR2 came and went. PS5 has been out what, 3 years, and there are rumors for a PS5 Pro like that would do anything. Games. People buy consoles for games! Sony used to have games!

IMHO Sony has a brighter future with portable gaming than home consoles. As long as they pack in external display output like Nintendo did.
There will be a big competitive market for two to three portable console makers. At the moment there’s space for one more big one. Nintendo, Valve and [Sony, Apple or Xbox]. Doubt Xbox can pull it off anymore. Apple needs real gaming standard built in controls.
