It seems that Alexandre Guilmant arrived at ways of combining the organ and orchestra that are very natural sounding and truly symphonic, without strain between the two. A great pleasure to discover this work!
@@JasonTramm I can see why you would enjoy conducting this work as well as Guilmant's No. 2. It's like Guilmant unlocked the magic doors to the realm of the Organ Symphony, and all this glorious music poured forth. The orchestra finds its equal partner in the organ and the possible combinations of colours and textures seem endless. Joyous, confident music from a composer with a big heart -- no wonder Guilmant's tours were so popular and his students so successful!
Originally written as his first organ sonata, Guilmant arranged it for organ and orchestra. He did the same for his 8th organ sonata, which became his 2nd symphony.
If you would like to hear a very powerful organ only performance of the Finale, try Gerard Brooks at St. Ouen in Rouen, France. (Hard to find a physical CD, but Amazon music has it in HD quality)
Havew you thought about doing the COMPLETE Jongen Symphonie Concertante? I know you've recorded movements 1 and 4, but how about doing the whole thing--PLEASE??
This is the most epic piece for the orchestra/organ I’ve ever heard! Thanks for posting.
The combination of a grand venue and magnificent pipe organ are magic!
Have you already listened to Symphonie Concertante by Joseph Jongen?
@@sergejnekrasov7688 I just did now. Magnificent, thank you!

I played this (on French horn) last year and just rediscovered how beautiful it is.
