Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them

This song is a tribute to his father / Parents who passed away when he was 12, his mother passed away 1 year later. Europa in Dutch means Europe. Pa or Papa means dad. His dad once told him the world has no “Grenzen” which could be translated to both borders (Borders are a man made concept) or limitations (Many people create their own limitations in their own mind). This life lesson inspired him to have keep having an open view on the world and live his life to the fullest without putting limitations on himself.
After his parents died he carried a lot of pain with him. No matter where on earth he was (Germany, Italy), whatever food he would eat (Escargots in France, Fish and chips in UK, Paella in Spain), he still carries this pain with him. In the end nobody but himself could deal with this pain and he himself must find peace with his losses. Only going through the grief and finding inner peace would put a end to this suffering. This song tells the story of him as an orphan trying to do exactly that.
Him creating this song was a huge part of this process. The line with Stromae / papaoute (which Translates to: Dad where are you), is followed with the words about how he wants his parents to be proud of him. He used to watch Eurovision with his parents and told them one day he would be there performing. Which is what he now did.
The burning at the end is his way of (trying to) say goodbye to the burning pain of loosing his parents. Joost said about this: sometimes you have to let go of the things that are most precious to you. Where one door closes, many opportunities present itself. Mum and Dad, you will always be there for me, but I can't carry this pain forever.

(The background and meaning of Joost Klein 'Europapa')
This is what Joost said about the song: "'Europapa' is a tribute to my father.
The song is a letter I wrote to my father, who died when I was a teenager."
'Europapa' is about an orphan who travels throughout Europe (and surrounding areas) to find himself and tell his story.
My father gave me a broad view of the world.
    Boundaries are made by people,
but my father told me that you can also set boundaries yourself by thinking out of the box.
At first people didn't know me,
but I continue to take every opportunity to show myself.
    When people see my act,
the first response should be, “What's going on here?”
and ultimately it touches people and makes them think.
'Europapa' initially seems like a very cheerful act,
but behind that lies a deeper message.
    (Background info from Joost Klein)
Joost Klein (26) is from the Netherlands.
Joost, is a Dutch musician, rapper, singer and former RUclipsr.
He is primarily a hip hop artist and his songs and performances often incorporate influences from electronic music,
such as drum 'n' bass, hardstyle and gabber.
    Joost also writes poetry
At the age of twelve he lost his father to cancer.
A year later, in 2011, his mother died of cardiac arrest.
After the death of his parents,
Joost was cared for by his older brother and sister.

The song is a letter to his parents who died when Joost was still young. His father told him that since humans invented the borders, he could invent the world, his own world. And so he did! The end with the burning picture and house means that it's time to stop grieving about his parents and step into a new phase in his life.

Musically it is great, within 3 minutes about 1/2 dozen music styles from the 90 / 00. Difficult to hear when you are too young😂, but this is music art .

This song has a deeper meaning. 'Papa' is translated 'dad' in dutch. Joost lost his dad to cancer when he was 12 and his mom a year later because of a cardiac arrest. When he was younger he watched the Eurovision with his parents and said “I’m gonna sing at Eurovision one day”. Joost sings that no matter where he goes or what he eats, he can not escape the pain of this loss. In the end he says goodbye to the pain of his loss by burning the photo, without losing the memory. This song is also an ode to Europe. His dad told him that it’s a world without borders, because borders are invented by humans. And that you can create your own world. The dance break is gabber music - a music style that was invented in the Netherlands, and the sub genre is called happy hardcore. Bringing a personal loss, the feeling of Europe and the dutch culture together; that is art.
The lyrics have a lot of layers:
    Europe let’s come together!
    It’s now or never!
    I love you all!
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Visit my friends in France
Or take a long walk to Vienna
I want to leave the Netherlands
    But my passport is gone
    Fortunately don't need a visa
    To be with you
So take the bus to Poland
    Or the train to Berlin
I have no money for Paris
    So use my imagination
Do you have a euro please
    Say "merci" and "please"
    I lost everything
    Except time
    So am travelling every day
    For the world is mine
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Eu-ro-pa!
    Ich bin in Deutschland
    Aber Ich bin so allein
    Io sono in Italia
    but still I feel pain
    Am running from myself
Calling for "help!" all day long
Yes I even give people money
But there is no one to help me
    I don't need es-car-gots
    Don't need fish 'n chips
    Don't need paella, no
I don't even really know what that is
    Turn on the radio
    I hear Stromae with "Papaoutai"
    Won't stop until they say
"Yes, yes, he does that very well ey!"
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Welcome to Europe
    Stay here until I die
    Euro-pa-pa, Euro-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
    Eu-ro-pa!
    Euro-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa….
    Welcome in Europe boy!
At the end of the day
    We are all human beings
    My father once told me
    It's a world without borders
    I miss you every day
    Is what I secretly whisper
    You see dad
    I listened to you
    Is what I secretly whisper
    You see dad
    I listened to you
