How to Replace an A/C Valve WITHOUT Recovering Refrigerant

  • Today I replaced the low side schrader valve on my '06 Ford F150. I used a valve core remover tool that allows for removal of the valve without major loss of refrigerant. This also means that you do not have to recover or vacuum the system, saving time and labor. This same process applies to many different makes and models.

Right around 2:48 I thought.. This guy has got his instructional game way up. A brilliantly detailed and thorough explanation of all the different components here. Techniques as well.
This is probably the 5-6th video I've watched on these particular tools and the rest just fall away. This one gets saved. "Auto Care" playlist.

I actually tried using this tool on my Accord about a year ago. And it was just a little bit too small to fit on the port. It DID fit on the high side port of my other car. But NOT the Accord. It’s like it was maybe 10 mils too small (or something minuscule like that). Not sure if maybe it was made out of tolerance as far as the ID. But I ended up having to send it back.

Got a cheap one of these. it didn't grab the shrader when unscrewed. I put a tiny dab of butyle tape on the end to pull it out and replace. Be sure to remove the butyle remnant before capping.

You can replace the high side port. You don't have to replace the whole thing. And when you replace it you can either get it with the rubber bladder or with a schrader value.

I just tried 2 different tools and none of them match the 2017 Ford Explorer. I can’t find anywhere just the tool for that model unless I get the whole kit ($500)
Do you know where I can get the tool for 2017 Ford Explorer?

YES. Your charge is low. You have a leak. Research R-152A or canned air computer duster.

    • @lisasisk3713

you pit a little spit on the valve and if it bubbles, it's leaking.

If you use this tool you will introduce air into the ac system. This is not a proper way to do this repair unless you have a way to vacuum out the air after you install the NEW SCHRADER valve into the tools. NO AIR SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN THE AC SYTEM PERIOD THATS WHY ITS A SEALED SYSTEM. IF YOU DISAGREE EVERYSHOP IN THE WORLD WOULD HAVE THIS FYI YOU MIGHT NEED TO UNDERSTAND HOW A AC SYSTEM WORKS.

    • @NutsandBoltsAuto
      @NutsandBoltsAuto  2 дня назад +1

As long as the system has pressure, it will force any air out. The tool does not create any pressure of its own to work against the system pressure.
I'd like to assume you've bled your brakes before. Why does opening the bleeder screw not introduce any air into the brake system? This is because there's pressure behind it pushing fluid out and it cannot suck air in.
This is the same thing that's going on with this tool. Every shop I've worked at has had this tool. It is very useful and comes in handy. It saves time that would otherwise be wasted having to recover the refrigent to fix a leaking valve.
Obviously if there's no pressure in the A/C system, you do not need this tool. Simply remove the valve, then vacuum before charging.
      I hope this helped 👍

No, with the AC system pressurized, no air will enter.
