    This is a very nice radio and its great to see it fully repaired for many years of happy service. It was also nice to see that you were able to obtain refurbished parts at a fraction of the price of the original part. Good all round repair.Thanks for making the video and sharing it with us.

    At the end you used the computer screen to use a piece of equipment , I wanted to verify what I remembered you used for that , I thought you got a Signal Hound for that ?
    I also saw your video on the LP-100A , which confirmed to me to get one of those , I lucked out and found a dead one for reduced price and repaired it , another great piece of gear .
    Thanks again John

    Good job as usual Peter! Matched FETs remind me of having to install matched 6JB6 finals in my Drake T-4XC transmitter. Drake had a jig set up to match them on their production line. I think it was Dave Jones in his latest video mentioned a friend of his describing a tube as "...a FET with a pilot light!" ;-) 73 - Dino KL0S

    Oh boy, another Yaesu repair. I love Yaesu radios especially since I now own a Yaesu 991a. I just hope the manufacturers used enough heat sync paste so the finals won't burn out. Seems this is a common Yaesu manufacturing problem. It seems that vertical channel MOSFET's are quite expensive to replace. I'm trying to find finals for my Yaesu FTM-3100. I hate when parts become non-obtainable. Buddy is another great technician from The Radio Shop. I watch a lot of his videos as well. Once again, another great video. I can understand the necessity of replacing two MOSFET's at the same time but it is cost prohibitive. Cheers & 73 from W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee

    Hello !
    Nice repair. The refurbished transistor looks more like it was taken from some other equipment cleaned and re-sold. I am not believing that it would be cheaper to do any repair inside the capsule than building a new one. The great thing is that this radio can have separate bias for each one and that saves a lot of money in repairing because most of the time only one of the finals is damaged.
    73 and good luck in contest operation with it.

    Great repair video Peter! Those transistors sure are pricey. I understand them not being able to spend the extra money for a matched set of transistors, but on such a nice, high-end radio I would have save the extra money to do it right. I am late to finding this video Peter, I know the bias current was originally 5a per device in Class A, I think that killed a lot of them, interesting to see you set them to 3a. I guess this is a revised figure.

  • @fey4949
    @fey4949 8 лет назад +1

    Another very nice repair. Good explanation why you should always replace two final transistors. The extern powersupply is a good safety measure and a very helpfull tip. I noticed at timestamp 26:25 when you test both transistor current that the powersupply went into current protection and the voltage went down from 30V to 23V. Was this on purpose?
    I was interested what the class A, against normal mode, would produce on harmonics and IMD. Maybe a quick test is in order?
    Maybe other manufactures incorporate individual bias current settings.
    The refurbished transistor is another good solution but you have no guarantees.
    I enjoyd it very much and like to see more in the future. Best 73 FEY

    • @TRXLab
      @TRXLab  8 лет назад

      +FEY Hi, no it was not on purpose it was still adjusted for on transistor current and with both it simply went into protection..Yeah should have taken the measures in AB operation as well.. Okay next time :-) Thanks for watching 73

    How much is the peak current? If it's less than 20 amps a VRF152 should work. These are vertically diffused MOS transistors from Microsemi. New they are about $80 apiece. The reason for the transistor for this being so expensive is that it is obsolete.

    Hello...:-)
    What do You think why these transistors fail???
    I found them short circuited on many FT-1000MP mkV-s for no apparent reason. I changed them and radios didn't come back ever again. And this radios work hard in a contest environment.
    Just on 1 FT-1000MP MkV I found bad relay on LPF unit as a reason for blowing finals...but this is clearly seen with spectrum analyser and RL bridge..just check return loss on all filter units(it has to be more then 15dB on all LPF-s)...and sligtly bumping on the relays on top of them, you will see bad ones(in and out).

    Ugh. I do like the solid state. What I do not like is the fact that they crank so much power through ever shrinking components. These things cannot get rid of the heat the make, make them more susceptible to failure. Shrinking all the digital and low level stuff in a radio is ok. but when it comes to the power output, I would rather have a big bulky PA that is easy and cheap to repair than to have a small compact radio.

    Deine Videos sind wirklich gut, aber es fällt schwer deinem englisch lange zuzuhören. Warum machst du es nicht auf deutsch. Dann wäre alles viel flüssiger?

      Hallo Thilo, tja das ist recht einfach.; mehr als 65% meiner Zuschauer sind von der Mutterspreche her englisch, deutsch sind nur 6,2% der Rest immerhin ca. 30% sprechen zumindest kein Deutsch, auch wenn Englisch nicht ihre Muttersprache ist.. Freut mich aber das dir die Videos gefallen, auch wenn du mit meinem Engisch nicht klar kommst.. Danke fürs vorbeischauen.. 73
