- People of RUclips, I am sorry for the video freeze issue in this post. I have no idea what happened because as you can tell, I am watching it and seeing everything that happened just fine. For some reason when it loaded into my editor it froze in certain parts. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Miley perform, she’s so fun to listen to and to watch!
At the time of recording this video I was unaware of Miley's diagnosis of Reinke's Edema and did not know how dramatically her voice had shifted down. This video was brought to my attention and it is an excellent analysis of her condition. From what I've watched of Miley, I do believe what she states in her video to be correct: a lot of her poor vocal behaviors that led to this condition extend from non-singing behaviors- shouting, drinking, smoking, not getting rest, etc etc, all of these compound. I still believe Miley has good technique when she sings. Here is the link:

Love this song. I loved it by Mazzy Star but I have to say I like Miley's version better. She is amazing. Mazzy Star came out with it in 1993. I had a three-year-old at the time who loved it too. She also loves Miley. Every song is amazing. Huge fan of this music. I don't like her Billy Idol Period. I love being able to hear her voice more like in these songs. I agree with you Joleene is one of my favorites by Miley. I think it's supposed to be under a desk as she steps away from it you can see it. She is under a desk made to look like a play house. I didn't know why they called it that as well. Now I see it.

Miley Cyrus is usually not my cup of tea but that cover of Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You" was on point and perfect for her vocal style! Impressive!

@@BaphoRez Thanks for sharing this! Beth does a great analysis here. And I absolutely think Miley is correct that the vast majority of her vocal issues extend from her behavior after performance (speaking, yelling, drinking, smoking, etc etc). I honestly hadn't noticed how much her voice had dropped outside of the normal changes that happen as we age until seeing these clips placed together! Singing with false fold edge is not an unsafe behavior at all but I can see with this condition how its being used as a crutch. It is possible to vastly improve the condition she has with better behaviors but Renke's Edema is much more serious than a mild edema. I would LOVE to see what the scoping looked like before and after Miley's surgery. I will supplement some of this info in my description as I did not know just how dramatically her voice had changed. Thanks again!

She had reinkes edema she had vocal surgery. Thanks to the surgery her voice is getting back to her prime 😍

Hi Jesus- thanks for asking about this. It had not occurred to me until I saw her performances over the years spliced together how low her voice had dropped. I linked a great video on Miley's condition (Reinke's Edema for which she had surgery) that was done recently I think. Miley has had surgery so in theory if she takes better care of herself- particularly how she behaves outside of performances, continues not to smoke etc, she should be able to maintain a decent range. All female voices change as estrogen levels deplete but with healthy habits and exercises she should be able to recover to a certain extent. I don't know the details of her surgery and how successful it was but this would in theory play a part in how much she is able to recover. I hope this helps.
Very talented but she now has to use effected vocal tricks to cover up the damage she has done to her vocal chords.
She still sounds amazing! With vocal training she seems to get better!
