Charlie Bennici I don't think they would really go well with today's f1 cars. Each engine needs to fit the cars body. Watch any v10 with modern f1 car video. It just doesn't fit together. Also this is more grouchier, f1 cars are usually high pitched.

That sound is so unique and specific, no other engines can even compare with the sound of this one 5 cylinder 2,2 turbo with the added bigger turbo. The only engine that can compare with this one is F1 V10!!! Fuck Mazda 787B, Zonda R, etc. German engineering will never be reached by anyone including Japanese. Japanese car makers can only dream about making quaility, reliable, comfortable, well-designed cars... They will never reach AUDI, ŠKODA, VOLKSWAGEN, MERCEDES. lets face it. you can make a car that looks good. has great fuel economy. handles well. sounds great. but when you have all that in a car your every day person can buy is pure heaven. too bad we dont get that over here in Australia. we get cars with big HP and idiot drivers that know nothing about the car they're driving and wonder why they crashed going around a corner. Audi's will always be a pinnacle of car performance and reliability as well as handling and sound. nothing would beat waking up in the morning with your coffee/tea in one hand and Keys to a monster in the other.
It's one of my biggest dreams to buy a newer Audi TT or RS3 with that sweet 5cylinder and give it a bigger turbo to bring it as close to the sound of the imsa audi 90 as possible ♥
yup. couldn't disagree. Being a German living in Australia, I can always fantasize owning some European old timers and older gen race beats. This GTO for example, or the ever mighty Lancia Stratos, or perhaps an E-type. However, if I could pick a relatively new car within the last 20 years, the car that stood out for me most with arguably THE most character and heart has to be the TVR Sagaris. The company owned by a sensible alcoholic Russian man, made and styled by psychopathic brits who could be your next-door neighbor, and mashed together by about 30 ideas and all negligence to safety of course. Featuring sideways exhausts and a stonking V8 with no driver assists nor airbags, holes, and inlets wings and bits all over the place coupled with a whacky paint job and half the bodywork not attached and constantly falling off, the character this car owns is infectious. Oh, and dont forget the pathetic reliability and lack of spare parts if shit does it the fan. why cant car makers make cars like this again... Still phazes me as to why the company collapsed... ;)

It's a 2.1 litre. Like the S1 Sport Quattro.
The 2.2 are the sporty road cars like the S2 or RS2
2.3 are the no Turbo street cars like the Audi 80 or 100
No its an 2.2 litre like the one used in the S1 E2 Pikes Peak (a special version tuned for Pikes Peak Hill Climb). Of Course they used this Displacement because it was the maximum allowed for charged Cars in the IMSA GTO series in that time (Dont know this exactly, cant find the old reglement, but every Manufacturer would do it that way).
@@PipeL1n3 no the imsa gto has a totally upgraded Version of the 2.2litre 20Valve Engine. There are threaded rods which are getting through the whole engine to hold the whole engine together because of the high boost and the high rotation speed. I was in the Audi Museum in Ingolstadt a few years ago and there you can see this beast and its engine. It`s looking totally different to the other 5 cylinder engines from Audi. The engine of the pikes peak Car is looking like the other engines of the group B rally cars.

No electric car could ever produce such personalities. The Ur Quattro and the IMSA GTO are like a pair of brothers. Even the R18 hybrid is alive. Then you look at the Rimac, despite being ridiculously fast; it's completely dead in terms of character.

@@MDDeGrande1994 the air coming into into the turbo impellor is COMPRESSED. Compressor surge is when the throttle body closes and all that boosted air rushes back to the turbo impellor causing it to stall aka compressor surge causing that chopping air effect

No blowoff valve, its a recirculating turbo vac system with a wastegate not a blow off valve.
@@b5Bart The wastegate is on the exhaust side and has nothing to do with the sound.

@@b5Bart The same way the work on every other turbo engine, you need to google how a wastegate works if you think it has anything to do with this sound, the flutter is happening on the compressor side and off throttle, wastegates are on the exhaust side and work on throttle.

Medizinball 2kg It's a Borg Warner KKK turbo as far as I recall, journal bearing old tech, massive thing, not something you'd want to have in your car now. The noise comes from the intake layout they had on the car, as far as I remember it was recirculating, you'd have to replicate everything, engine, intake/exhaust system, correct turbo + boost levels ect in order to get the same noise.
What kind of blow off valve is this? I want to upgrade my 1.8t stocker to something that sounds more like this.
This has no BOV. What you hear is the air bouncing back against the turbine wheel when the throttle is closed.

Nope wasn't this one at all. They were planning on using a mid engine car for the upcomming Group S, wich would have been the successor of Group B if it wasn't canceled.

they dont use a recirculating valve in intake, so when the pedal is lifted and the throttle valve closes the pressed air goes reverse over the turbo. Modern Cars don´t do this because the turbo is slowed down by this and also can be damaged. So its better to have a recirculating valve also for performance in a normal car. They don´t needed it because they always drive full throttle, the drivers also "give gas" in corners to keep the turbo rpm alive and simultaneously hold the car down with its brakes. That and the massive Punch when the Turbo kicks in is a reason some oldday driver gave it a 9.5 of 10 in difficulty to drive.
@@PipeL1n3 It does not cause the turbo to slow down, even in modern race cars they don't run them, people have also tested this and seen no difference in turbo speed.
@@DriftNick ooof answers to 4 years old post :D i already forget that. Well yeah it might be the turbo itself will not be slowed down, but the air in the pipes is changing flowdirection, when throttle is closed its building up pressure because of moment of inertia and some air is pressed back through turbo again, which creates the sound we love. Thats where the recirculating valve comes in charge, which lets the air flowing in a loop to the turbo inlet again, so the flow in the pipes is always towards the engine/throttle and there will be no lag of air changing its direction when open throttle again. We assuming there will be just (mili-)seconds between the two states, its only has an effect if the air is still in backflow when we open throttle again, in racecars, there are other technics like anti-lag injections etc to prevent the effect, and as well racecars usually run on full throttle as much time as they can.

This has no blow off valve. What you hear is the air pushing back against the turbos turbine wheel when the throttle body closes.
don't think so, that sound would be more like a flutter noise, the typical trubo flutter. There is like no reason for a car like this to not have a BOV. Or at least a redisputer valve
