- Lets look into a dark reflection of the Federation and see what kind of life could have been.
Shame the Empire fell to the Alliance, just when they were trying to forge forwards for peace.
The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
This is the Cultural Index a series aimed at exploring various Science-Fiction species.
For outsiders to a series to get to know the basics and maybe even hardened Sci-fi nuts might discover something new.

according to star trek online, the Terran Empire managed to overthrow the Alliance, and managed to conquer the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, and are starting to also invade the prime universe

I really don't want to meet Mirror Q
Who says they aren't one and the same person? There may be many realities but there might only one Q continuum. Just as likely.
Very true. The Q exist in many universes and dimensions as one.
I don't believe it's possible for a mirror Q to exist. It would have been mentioned by him or other Q that there are separate versions of themselves in different places.
But your comment still stands as a good one. :)
The Q exist outside of time and space. They live in the Q Continuum, which is a reality of it's own. They are aware of many different realities and can access them by a mere thought. So there is really only one Q Continuum. And therefore only one Q.
"In the mirror universe, the Q was the dread deity of the Orion Cabal, a cult of the Orion race, who worshipped him with, crime, chaos and blood sacrifice. The Assassins of Q killed in his name.
According to their legends, this Q was a formless entity (referred to by the male 'he' or the neutral 'it'), hungry and chaotic, that once walked among the people of the mirror universe, and conquered many races. When he set out to conquer the Terrans, however, they found some secret weapon against him, perhaps an ally of god-like powers or an ancient magical incantation, and banished Q to a prison outside the known dimensions."

Should have kept it. I was having a grammar meltdown.
Such uniforms did make their way into the Prime Universe during the Terran Incursions of the early 25th Century, to be worn at the captain's discretion.
I always admire the Terran Empire to a point. They had Strength and unlike the Federation who let everyone step over them but their flaw to me was they were over excessively brutal for no reason but for the fun of it. Similar in how the Sith Empire's ruled, through fear, brutality, backstabbing and pointless warring. Everyone was strong but used their Strengths to no true goal but for ones own selfishly and greedy goals and to cause as much needless suffering on their way to power for powers sake.
MadVulcan
We need a good balance of the two.
Thankfully, we already are.
The problem with the Terran Empire in StarTrek, is the show's writer's attempts to push their own ideology, thus endowing The Empire with unrealistic shortcomings that run counter to it's own core values in many ways.
For example, in any realistic empire based on order and power, you could NEVER advance through mutiny - it is a violation of order, and as soon as the higher-ups heard of it, you and your mutinous crew would be executed as traitors. Unless, of course, you managed to grab the top office.
Roman imperialism gives us a much better feel for how a realistic Terran Empire would handle itself socially.
I agree surprise they didn't fall
@@DarkVeghetta
Crew members are peasants and officers royalties living on a game of thrones. The hierarchy is autocracy where each man is for its own taking and there's no mutiny since there's only one purpose in life to defeat the enemy who is a constant reminder that rebellion is death to your family and specie and nation. The mutiny is a way of releasing tension since there was no end of war, there was no way to mutiny as there's nothing else in the world than one nation. The Terran Empire is a Nazi empire where all soldiers fight for one nation and all fight for their closest comrades and nothing else. This is why the germans had to send their soldiers back to the same squads, a sort of punishment that no wound can make you be relocated. Hierarchies of accidents happening and resupply of soldiers, these aren't the top dogs but the underdogs fighting amongst each other.
@@robertagren9360 I'm sorry, but this is simply not how any government, including National Socialist Germany, has ever and could ever operate or even function.
If the crew are commoners (not 'peasants') and the officers are nobility (not 'royalty', as that's a step above and there wouldn't be that many of them - heck, on the show there doesn't seem to be any form of extended royal family either), then mutiny is even MORE likely to lead to everyone involved being executed. For the same reason you couldn't move up the ranks on a British vessel by way of mutiny - you'd simply end up as pirates. No government authority would ever condone such actions; it runs against order and the established system - *especially* when a commoner/nobility social dichotomy exists.
Furthermore, while there was A LOT of backstabbing in National Socialist Germany, nearly all of it was contained to officers that were vying for power with each other and trying to impress their higher-ups, with said higher-ups usually silently condoning the practice, as they believed it fostered competition and thus strength. Any common solider that tried to get uppity with their commander was swiftly dealt with.
More over, the unstable nature of the national socialist system, due to constant backstabbing and thus inevitable flouting of rules and regulations, led to a very wasteful and inefficient system that was one of the leading causes for the notorious logistical issues that plagued the Wehrmacht throughout WWII - thus, quite directly contributing to the subsequent defeat in said war (nevermind the fuel & component shortages and other issues that likely doomed any protracted war from the start). As such, it is laughably improbable that such an inefficient system would easily unite the world and venture into space to commit space-genocide (ugh... the sheer kitsch).
Again, the entire concept was clearly written by people with an ideological axe to grind and certainly didn't start with 'how can we make this basic premise seem logically sound' - hence why it comes off as unrealistic to anyone that has studied human history, especially highly militaristic and aggressively expansive cultures.
I like your role play as the mirror of yourself it made this video more entertaining

Buffed Picard isn't real, he can't hurt you.
Bufed Picard:
Interesting you should mention that Shakespeare hadn't changed. In the book Dark Mirror, which explores a Terran Empire which survived into the TNG era, Picard finds just the opposite when nosing around "his" quarters. In fact, he notes that The Iliad is the only work from his collection that appears unchanged, which would put the shift as far back as the Trojan Wars.
I wish that was explored more even though it may not be Canon. Was the change simply cultural divergence or did an outside influence cause the difference between the Terran and Federation humans? Of course I can see both sides keeping the existence of their counterparts quiet if it was cultural
@@googleuser7454 The book referred to it as "moral inversion", actually.
@@Falchion1984 that's interesting. Its been a while since I read it. So it was a gradual change starting with ancient Greece and culminating in the Terran Empire. That's fascinating and is further than other theories that say the divergence only happens pre WW2

1:15 The Borg :
Allow us to introduce ourselves
In Star Trek Online the Terrans overthrew the Alliance and regained it's power, but remains locked in war with the Alliance. They have however conquered Empok'nor from the Cardassians and have conquered a Klingon station which we see them using for themselves in the Badlands Warzone.
They also had help from the Na'kul from Enterprise in repelling the Iconian invasion with weapons and technology from the future of the main time-line(the federation time-line), without this intervention the Iconians would have annihilated everyone in that universe. The Na'kul see the Terrans as similar to themselves and as powerful allies against the Federation of their own universe, and it is implied that the Na'kul were the ones who vouched for the Terran Empire to be invited to the Temporal Libration Front, an alliance of unscrupulous time-traveler races from various universes and time-lines.
The Tarran Empire knew other people would treat people the way they have been treated. It didn't know they could.
The last time i was this early...

Here let me help you with that. The last time you were this early your girl friend was disappointed.
Thats what she said.
Lmfao the ending was amazing XD
"Ha look at their head dresses"
"The prawns i mean district 9 aliens"
I've often wondered: what happens when the Borg arrive? If there was no Starfleet to intercept them courtesy of Q, then they would've hit Alliance space unopposed. If the Terrans thought *they* were brutal in their glorious past, they're in for a shock: a massive army of networked cyborgs to whom individual death is irrelevant; & to whom opposing cultures are fodder for ruthless expansion. How do you fight an enemy that nonchalantly weaponizes their captives against you?
We don't know what the state of the Mirror Borg looks like in canon (in STO they are known either from Mirror Voyager's time in the Delta Quadrant or from data and technology stolen from the Prime Universe) but it seems possible that there hasn't been any contact with them. "StarTrek: Enterprise" close-looped that the Borg in "Q Who" were responding to a signal from Borg from "StarTrek: First Contact" that became resuscitated in the mid 22nd century after the remnants of the sphere were discovered in the arctic, so if that didn't happen than none of the encounters as we know them would have occurred between the Federation and the Borg. It's also not known if there was a Mirror Bajoran Wormhole, since at least in the Prime Universe the Borg did have some presence in the Gamma Quadrant and had some knowledge of Alpha and Beta Quadrant species that had used the wormhole for trade and exploration.
In this empire universe; the empire fell at wolf 359 to the alliance. Another empire dimension had them finding the Vulcans nearly wiping themselves out so the empire and Vulcan became Kindred spirits and plundered the galaxy together that in Picards time still exists. They had the romulans commit ritual suicide rather than be humiliated and being subjugated by the earth forces in early Terran exploration. The Klingons became a slave race also.

Alexei Stukov: [looks down, then pulls a fresh cigar out of his coat] Yes... yes, I am prepared to go all the way, my good admiral.
Gerard DuGalle: Good... good, I knew I could count on you.
Malmsteen: [over intercom] Admiral, the colonists' base will be overrun in a matter of minutes. Shall we intervene?

do you think that the kelvin timeline has a mirror universe version of it too?
The_Nerd I think it would depend if the terren empire decided to help the romulans like Spock did. Personally, I doubt the mirror empire would care to help the romulans using something like red matter (it's valuable).
well from the information gleamed in games and books and ds9 when the Terrans went to war with the Romulan Star Empire they eradicated the species.
also true I was kinda hoping that we got Shatner as mirror Kirk in Star Trek beyond cause I thinking mirror Kirk and Chris Pine Kirk could have been an interesting interplay.
Most certainly. But unlike the feeble Federation of the Kelvin timeline. The ISS Lord Kelvin of the Terran Empire was able to overwhelm the Narada. WE made Captain Nero watch as Romulus was destroyed by the vary same Red Matter bomb that he brought to destroy Vulcan. The agony of the fool was sweet and his death slow. The Narada brought about a new age for the Terran Empire. Klingon, Bajoran, Cardasian and most of all Romulans were crushed. The Dominion has been subjugated. The very matter of the shaping changing masters of the Dominion is construction material for our next generation of starship. We look forwards to expending into the Delta quadrant. Captain Picard of the ISS Enterprise will lead an armada to enslave the Borg. From the Narada, we acquired some of this Borg technology, and after a century we want more.
The_Nerd actually the comics are Canon and there are Terran empires of the kelvin timeline
Nice, combining the music of ME3 with this. Fits well.

Holy shit TNG Terran Data looks badass.
What happened with Khan and the other Augments in the mirror universe ? - probably eliminated or co opted (like Admiral Marcus did in the Kelvin Timeline).
Although the is another timeline where the Augments won WW3 and all of humanity is genetically engineered (including the increased aggression 'defect') and rule a Empire that makes the Terran Empire seem sweet, because humans are just so superior. They aren't as bad as 40,000k with the xenophobia, but still rule with an iron superstrong fist. And apparently there is a personality stimulator of Khan on every ship, as a sort of philosophical guide.
Now if they start invading other timelines, uh oh.
Good video, I hope that our Rick is okay. I'm not sure that Empire weapons have a stun setting, that's got me worried!

Awesome work. :D
Zentraidi, Invid, Robotech Masters, and etc... Robotech Cultural Index would be cool as hell!
Love the intro bro.
A long time ago I read a theory about the point of divergence for the mirror universe. In the temporal Cold War, someone killed Joseph Stalin in 1915. Without Stalin the bullshivck revolution failed and the Russians stayed in WW1. Because of this Russia was too weak to fight in WW2 and Hittler conquered half the world with Japan on the other Half. Eventualy the two powers banded together to create the Terran empire and years later “first contact” was mad with the Vulcans and it continued as described.
The whole mutiny side of things seems similar to how a Klingon can challenge for captaincy just more underhanded.
Sounds a lot like the Terran UED from StarCraft, which I'm sure borrowed or took inspiration for the idea from Star Trek.
No, it's obviously from starship troopers
I want an entire star trek show to be based in terran universe
Here's the pre first contact timeline idea I came up with for the TE:
1776 ACE: 13 colonies declare independence from Britain as the U.S.A
1781 ACE: the U.S.A is reformed into the Terran Empire through radical means, Jefferson escapes to France.
1789 ACE: French Revolution
1792 ACE: French Republic declared with Robespierre and Jefferson at the head
1812 ACE: Terran Empire defeats Britain in the war of 1812, Britain continues fight with France. TE gains all of Canada except New Found-land
1816 ACE to 1917 ACE: Isolation, Conquering of the Americas
1917 ACE: Teddy Roosevelt overthrows Emperor Woodrow Wilson, Roosevelt Dynasty formed, declares war on Central powers.
1919 ACE to 1939 ACE; Terran expansion in trade, TE joins axis with Japan, Germany, Italy, etc.
1939 ACE: WW2
1944 ACE: Nuking of Chita, London, Indian independence
Cold War period: Terran moon landing 1955, Collapse of axis powers into chaos due to Terran espionage
1989 ACE: Eugenics war doesn't occur
1990 ACE to 2063 ACE: very little changes in politics
2063 ACE: First contact with Vulcans
2063 ACE onwards: you know what happens
I came up with an idea of how the empire could've formed. one clue was the flag change under Sato, to show the American continents only, possible place of origin for the empire.
In our universe we would be the Terran Empire.

We need more Terran Rik!
Ha this episode was well done 👍
According to that universe's Dr Phlox, William Shakespeare is "equally grim" in both universes...the rest of the literature was quite different.
"inclusive institutions are reversible." says "why nations fail". even if rhe ufp is inclusive it could go back to being a close-set noninclusive hierarchal society. just like the empire could move from hierarchal to open inclusive society it could slide back. fingers crossed
Let's be honest, whenever we get space travel for real, the Terran Empire will be born.
Based on the "learned behavior" for adaption, the TERRAN Empire would just learn to assimilate the GUISE of the Federation, dedicating themselves to the subterfuge for generations, until finally when their allies had their guards down, they'd strike.
Win or lose, they'd ultimately fail in the long run, because due to their limitation, they refuse to accept the proven qualities that once took them down, then liberated them later.
Kinda like Romans in real life.
Theory: The events of the movie STFC created a divergent timeline. Without Picard and Crew (and the Borg) going back in time, the Terran Empire would have came into existence.
Effectively creating a stable closed timelike curve. Which brings it's own questions and holes in continuity.
Star trek online shows the Terran Empire did rise again and re-conquered the quadrant
Well, technically STO isn't exactly canon, and obviously Certifiably Ingame doesn't use it as a source in any way, which I see as appropriate, but there may be disagreement between us fans, of course. The official state of it is: "STO? What's that? Oh, another Star Trek story (that doesn't make sense... sorry, did I say something? Anyway... :D ). Well, we don't give a shit!" That's about CBS' standpoint, I doubt Paramount gives even that much of a damn.
Edd25164605 I believe it works differently in the novels, though I haven't read much from the Mirror Universe series's
Edd25164605 Plus that game exists based on the generation of conflict. I don't believe the Dominion or the Borg would be major threats as they are in that game, should a post Voyager series launch.
