You still make polishing look effortless! Been watching these videos for quite a while now and thank you for showing us rookies how it's done. I took your 4 hour class in Costa Mesa, Ca 2 October's ago and learned a ton there as well. Thank you for taking time out of your day to help the rest of us.
About a year ago I started watching your videos and now I'm starting to polish some of our fleet and some customer trucks thanks for the inspiration to do this Evan
I’ve finally started polishing diamond plate. I work at a fire department and our trucks look so bad. Now that I’m using your advice I’ve got my first piece looking better. I tore through two polishing wheels on one piece of diamond plate though. I need to keep watching and learning more.
Thx for the learnin'. I really appreciate your humble attitude. Never was aware of the whole light reflection/angle thing till you demonstrated it. Spot on
Love that you keep doing how to videos still Evan. I feel alot more comfortable trying to tackle my tanks and wheels after watching these vids. Looking forward to see how you do the rest of the tank at the top as well as the end by the Pickett elbows

I watched your videos before I tackled my 39 east dump trailer over the new years weekend. First thing is thank you for your well educating videos. Second is I learned exactly what you was talking about when you made a comment about the bottom of the tank "turning black". I didnt really understand this until I did the passenger side of the trailer. The last guy that pulled the trailer ran into everything. The whole side was black. I spent over and hour just scrubbing and scrubbing out the black residue out of the scratches and Knicks in the trailer. I used a lot of your tips in my methods of doing the trailer wheels and my trailer. Turned out pretty well. I also feel like I've been hit by frieght train! Its a lot of work!
Great job as always Evan I really appreciate you and your tips! There is no one else I enjoy learning from more about polishing. Keep up the great work sir...

Great video. Quick question, can you color without cutting if your tanks aren’t bad and you just want to bring out a little more shine. Basically is cutting always necessary
I really appreciate your video. Everyone has their own style of doing this and I like yours the most. It took my a while to figure out what y'all meant when you say "color". I think you mean to mirror it? On a side note how do you feel when people cry about wearing a thin mask with covid lol. I'm new to your channel...I watch and love the videos. How can I get the materials I have chrome on my semi quaterfendes and tanks would love to do mines
You did a really good job I work at a semi truck shop as well and they want me to learn how to polish we do a lot of Peterbilt trucks it would be nice if I had any questions to have someone that can answer and help me out
Great video....... How do you know when to add compound to your pad? I usually use too much and have a lot of residual when I'm done. Thanks for the videos !!
Good question! that is where the art of polishing comes in. There really isn't a good answer to that question. The shitty answer is that you put more on when the pad starts to dry. But when is the pad dry is the unknown variable that changes everyday based on the condition of the metal you are working on and the condition of the weather and elements you are working in. I hope this info is helpful
It took you 3 minutes to put the second cut! it would have taken me 10 minutes lol. Which centerless buff do I click on, to get the green buff, was it the pink? Thanks for them little nuggets, they’ll help a ton
Enjoy watching your vids. I'm a novice at buffing and have been trying to get the hang of it. Watching your video's have helped quite a bit. I do have a question. What polish do you use when doing by hand? I've been having some issues with surface scratches showing when using a microfiber rag and a metal polish. I use Chemical Guy's light and heavy metal cut's. They work great on area's like diamond plate but show surface scratches when wiping down my tanks. Any way to prevent that? The 378 I drive has been neglected for years, I just got in it in Sept and have been working to get it looking nice. Hard to keep clean being a dirt dummy though. Look forward to watching more in depth videos.
Check out my hand polish video. I never use microfiber on aluminum. That video explains that. Check the hand polish video and let me know if you still have more questions.
Been watching all your videos man great job just got assigned a semi looks like it's never been polished in its existence any tips to bring the shine out on the steps and tanks?
Green is super stiff. I thought the green and red were for steel or chrome, or something. I'm pretty sure that's what it says on the website. Did they change the stiffness order of the buffing wheels? Currently I cut with the orange Wheel and the brown brick provided in The business starter kit. And then I moved to yellow and green. Though I did Use the black brick that I think is more gray to cut originally, because On my most recent truck, the fuel tanks were so oxidized And full of dirt that could not be washed off due to heavy use of flyash Used on this truckers route Because he's off road. Is this the correct way to handle this?
So It appears half way up the middle section of the tank. During the cut stage you are moving up as you go left to right. Then it seems you are moving down then going back across. Is this because you are trying to build heat and shine? or more so your cut is even with no white lines?
Hi Evan, you mentioned needing a different buff and compound for the stainless straps. Would the orange and brown work if a guy had nothing else available or is that a bad idea?
If I have a 7inch grinder what size airway buffer do I use and what brand do you use I didn't see anything in the description also the trioli polish link?
I run all 9" buffs myself from goshineon.com. The Tripoli I also get from time2shine on goshineon.com. It is my own brand and blends that we developed. But you can use 8", 9" or 10" buffs on a 7" grinder. Just 10" buffs will burn the grinder out faster than using an 8 of 9". I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
is it really that quick and easy? I have been working on a 5 inch tall rail that is 12 feet long for 2 days now and it only shows a reflection if you look at it at a very sharp angle.
Aluminum can be quick and easy. But remember I have been doing this for 21 years this year and done thousands of fuel tanks and hundreds of thousands of wheels. If I don't make it look easy by now I have a serious problem. LOL Thanks for watching.
Hey Evan,is it possible for bars to dry out? Bought them probably five or six years ago for son to start learning to do truck but he never followed through. So,amongst other things I’ve began watching your vids and attempting to keep truck up. Paid a guy to do all of my aluminum and stainless. When I strike bar on buffer don’t get anything like you do. Thanks
What is your humidity level? what is the temp? All those variables will play a factor. All the sanding out? Is it super smooth or still a lil rough. Send pics to my cell for more help 9209790386
I have a question for you Evan. I’ve been polishing for about 2 years now and even though I’ve never had any unsatisfied customers, I can’t seem to figure something out that’s been driving me insane. When I’m sanding, cutting, coloring a pontoon, fuel tank, etc I use LED lights and sometimes it drives me nuts because no matter what I try I keep seeing these very faint yellowish, grey, tan lines through my shine, but only when I hold an LED up to it at certain angles. Am I doing something wrong? At first I thought it was running a green/yellow wheel on the 6000 and I was baking in the color but now I run color only on the variable and only cut with the 6000. I’m not seeing as much lines but I can still see them in the finished product and I keep wanting to cut at them to get them blended out but sometimes it makes it worse. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Led is artificial light and the light refracts in directions unnatural. So it’ll show you things that aren’t really there. Check out my hash mark video here on my channel. It’ll help explain more.
What's the wood for? I use a battery powered hand drill with the buffer attachment, but I can get that deep shine. What am I doing wrong. I use that stuff they have at the pilot.
With RUclips pretty much at anyones disposal it usually takes a good hour or so to find a good video with material you can learn from. Pretty glad I was able to stumble across your channel, kinda remind me of Larry Haun. I mean he was a carpenter but he knew what he was doing and he knew how to pass that information on to others just as easy and you the same. Appreciate the videos and the knowledge Evan catch ya around
I’m new to polishing I’m gonna be doing my truck for a show. In between the different coloring stages should I use hand polish? Would it have any effect?
I do it anytime. It is a one on one thing and we schedule them all winter. They cost $500 per day per person. Most people take 2-3 days to get a good grasp on it all.
Have uver been stuck where a customer dint want to pay, just saw a polishing team at kenlly nc and they did a superb job and the trucker was so nit peakey sad, me as a novice polisher part time i paid them good things but sorey as trucker ended crashing up the road
I don't have that happen too often anymore but it has happened in the past. I now keep the keys and if I had to I would put a mechanics lean on the truck. If you did the work they need to pay. If they aren't happy with it then it needs to be negotiated.
When you run out is the best answer. LOL There really isn't a good answer to that question. I go off how well it is cutting and how thick the line is in front of where I am working.
What speed would you recommend on the buffer I'm 17 new to this I have been doing it by hand with just rags but I just bought a Makita and some zephyr polishing compound and wheels I'm trying to practice on my dad's fuel tanks on his truck and some other stuff that we have laying around before I take on jobs
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing I have been whatching lots of your videos to see what you do. After whatching your videos I shoulda did white wheel with the white bar
Color is one of the finishing steps to help reduce hash marks and bring out the color in the metal. It is similar to going into a room and turning the lights on.
Hey brother , I notice you brown it and than green on top , most guy acid wash an than green to not have a contamination, but you did it smooth, how come?
When using compounds from the same "family" you don't have to worry about contamination. I use all of the same brand bars found on our site. www.goshineon.com. Acid is not something I like using.
I do polish tanks that are not on the truck but that is not always what the customer wants and can be time consuming for something that is not going to be seen.

Pretty glad I was able to stumble across your channel, kinda remind me of Larry Haun. I mean he was a carpenter but he knew what he was doing and he knew how to pass that information on to others just as easy and you the same. Appreciate the videos and the knowledge Evan catch ya around
Thanks for that! Truly appreciate that.
They will always last longer with better prep but this helps a lot in the maintenance of big rigs.
I’m new to polishing I’m gonna be doing my truck for a show. In between the different coloring stages should I use hand polish? Would it have any effect?
niceeee
how much pressure you put on that buffer
like you push hard or just a bit ?
Enough that I can hear the tone change and feel the torque kick in.
does it matter if you use different bars on the pads or do you need to use the same bar on the pad you started with?
Have a new truck tanks ned a mirror shine do I have to cut it go straight to a green first?could you text me what I need start to finish?
I want to start polishing rig tanks how much $$$$$ will need to start
Couple thousand invested you can get a great start.
Top de mais,😱
Thank you.
Hey Evan, how often do you do your training? How much does it go for?
What is the difference between different color buffs
Can you fit a 9 inch wheel on that 7 inch grinder? And how so?
Yes you can. Check out my how to mount a buff video.
Evan does fuel to be emptied first?
I prefer them to be full when I polish them. But that is a preference thing.
How do you know when you need to add more compound
When you run out is the best answer. LOL There really isn't a good answer to that question. I go off how well it is cutting and how thick the line is in front of where I am working.
how do you blind the top of tank that you cant reach with your buffer
New video dropping this week on how to do that.
Sorry for the late response i hope you were able to get good results. I prefer the Makita GA7021 at 6000rpm
Is that aluminum tank?
Yes. Thank you for watching.
Those tanks looked like mine when I did them only i used a yellow wheel with yellow bar
To each their own. I like how I do it but my way isn't always the right way.
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing I have been whatching lots of your videos to see what you do. After whatching your videos I shoulda did white wheel with the white bar
@@bradholstiene6728 Some do it that way. I never use white bars on aluminum. But that is a personal preference thing on my part.
Ok good to know before I went and did it
AREN'T you worried about inhaling aluminum dust?
Yes I sure am. Which is why I wear a full face respirator.
Can you tell me name of mops green yellow and other one?

Karl here in Denver.
What does 'color' mean?
Color is one of the finishing steps to help reduce hash marks and bring out the color in the metal. It is similar to going into a room and turning the lights on.
Hey brother , I notice you brown it and than green on top , most guy acid wash an than green to not have a contamination, but you did it smooth, how come?
When using compounds from the same "family" you don't have to worry about contamination. I use all of the same brand bars found on our site. www.goshineon.com. Acid is not something I like using.
how long did it take tou to do this??
Less than 30 minutes.
Yo Evan I have 2 tanks to polish how much would you charge
Depends how rough they are. I go off how much work I need to do.
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing they have a haze to it
@@EvanStegerMetalPolishing I don’t think they never been polished and some guy wants me to polish them
Always ask myself why not just take off the whole tank so everything can be the same ?
I do polish tanks that are not on the truck but that is not always what the customer wants and can be time consuming for something that is not going to be seen.
