The clip that was uploaded to RUclips lopped-off the filmed introduction that showed the archaeologist searching Disneyland's temple ruins for the Super Bowl trophy and finding that the object had been stolen. The live segment then begins inside the stadium where the audience finds that the natives who are worshipping the goddess, Patti Labelle, are also worshipping their other idol, this trophy. So much is crammed into this enormous but brief show, and it does all make sense in a tongue-in-cheek way.
I was in high school at the time and was an extra dancing on the football field. This show was so much fun! One of my favorite memories from my high school days for sure!

the Disney halftime show they put on back 1984 is MUCH MUCH better. This one just has too many awkward moments to be good at all, though the Circle of Life is a high point for sure.

The show producers wanted to go as big as possible and clearly, they went overboard.

I could’ve expected more presence of The Lion King in the halftime show! I wanna see a pretty cool halftime show for the 2021 Super Bowl that pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida with lots of performers performing some pretty cool songs and appearances by countless Disney characters and could have a theme revolving around Guardians of the Galaxy and mix-tapes!
as much as I like Patti LaBelle, this was a HOT ASS MESS. You got a Mayan theme, clashing with a Caribbean theme, clashing with an Asian/Buddha theme. I mean, it was like going to an 'all you can eat buffet', but there aint shit on the table that looks edible.
My hat is off to the masterminds, choreographers and all the dancers (singers and musicians) who pulled this phenomenal performance off. I loved all the transitions and theme changes. They made the impossible- possible. Great job.

Then Disney head Michael Eisner was President of Paramount when Raiders of the Lost Ark was released, which even explained why it became a Disney World attraction. He didn't stick around at Paramount after The Temple of Doom, which pushed the envelope and was perhaps more to his then-boss Barry Diller's liking, was released. Eisner sure was obsessed with Raiders of the Lost Ark though, and even integrated Indiana Jones archeology into DuckTales and even the outfit Chip donned in Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers.
They don't do half time shows like that anymore. Sure, it was lip syncing, but nearly all singing in the Super Bowl half time show is. But that was outstanding choreography, acting, production and story for such a small time window.
Oh my god I thought I would never relive the horror of this halftime show. I remember watching this when I was 15 and knowing that my childhood had died. Thank you for helping me relive that.
