    The Hawaiian Island are sooooo overlooked and under-rated as travel destinations. Like, on Oahu once you leave the Waikiki beachfront it's astonishing how much there is to explore, how much culture and history is actually there to learn about. Beautiful.

    Great video! The north shore of Kauai is my favorite place on earth! And yes, in 1992, Hurricane Iniki destroyed all the chicken coops and the chickens have run rampant ever since. They have no predators on Kauai, so it's been easy for them to proliferate. Other islands have mongoose that prey on chickens, but Kauai has been very careful to keep them out. Looking forward to the rest of the Hawaii series!

      Oh wow, that's a pretty crazy story then. The days the chickens took over.

    • @andrewzenn1719
      @andrewzenn1719 4 года назад

      So the chickens are bred for fighting. The Filipinos on the island bred them for illegal fighting before Eniki. Only recently did they stop, or did they? That's why the roosters, are really good at jumping. Occasionally new immigrants from the Philippines or Micronesia would catch and eat them, but they aren't good eating. There are some locals that aim for them and take pleasure in crushing them on the road. They can be annoying.

    Tree with exposed roots on trail was Hala or other wise known as the "ding ding tree", tree on big island was a banyan.

    Years back Mink were farmed here, in the UK, for their fur. For various reasons a number of Mink managed to get loose in the wild. We now have Mink breeding & living wild in the UK. They are larger than our native Weasels and Ferrets, more like the size of our native Polecats.

    That is definitely true about the chicken game on the island. The same with the feral cats. When the hurricane Iniki hit all the chickens and cats headed into the jungle and populated.This is my second time watching the Kauai portion of the series. Man I miss that place.

    Kyde, I love the t-shirt! The hike looks like it was a lot of fun, I love the woods so I'd be all about that. Of course I'd need the double hiking sticks that look like ski poles so i wouldnt die, but it'd be worth it. Thanks for sharing, this was a lot of fun and that ham sammich looks pretty great.

    Glad you had fun here, the trees on trail are called walking trees. They move slowly as they grow legs/roots. They big tree that drops roots from canopy is a banyan tree. Keep up videos. See you in Japan.

    lots of beaches are changed drastically to become 'fun': they dredge the area, making it smooth on the sea bottom, lessening the wave action. Tourists want 'pretty' beaches. They take away the coral, seaweed beds which also (unfortunately) makes the fish move away, but this makes the water clearer. Tourists don't normally don't like seaweed/coral-filled waters (even though this is probably a sign that the area is healthy). on the island of O'ahu as you might know, the famed Waikiki beach is almost entirely man-made... Much of the area was actually more like a swamp... the sand is brought in from time to time to fight erosion... out on O'ahu's North Shore, the wave action is much more fierce, which is not 'fun' to swim in, but of course, the surfers love it... To be really fun/safe for swimming you need to go to a lagoon or a side of the island that doesn't have big waves... on O'ahu, that would be Lanikai or the Ala Moana Beach/Magic Island area. All of these places have little to no waves naturally or have wave 'breakers' out past the protective reef zone...

    That’s a very true story about the chickens. They all took off into the jungle along with a bunch of cats. Tons of wild cats living in the jungle.

    Hi. I knew this was filmed before the pandemic stuff, but I couldn't help thinking, Why is Kyde standing so close to people and nobody is wearing a mask? Just shows how conditioned I've become. Really enjoyable episode and great scenery; I guess Hawaii can be thanked for that; not the video but the way the place looks. I hope you're both well and safe in that there Japanipeopleslandplace.

    It’s a 20 when the waves aren’t so crazy! Lol. There’s a cave on that beach (Hanakapi’ai) you could go into. It gets better further in the full trail, since there’re much less people.

    This gave me such LOST nostalgia.
    15:15 I was having a Kyde moment as well. Are those the things where Kate & I forget who else were hiding from... something or other? I can't remember the ep or what exactly was happening. That's going to bug me now.

    The chicken story is BS. The hens and rosters are there due to a smaller or no population of mongoose that keep the chicken population in check on the other islands. I live on O'ahu, not just giving you a cute story. The Hike looked fun!

      @kydeanderic  4 года назад

      Well, what was explained was that the reason the population is so out of control is no mongeese, but that before the storm in 92 there weren't nearly as many running free.

    when my mother was a little girl my grandparents took her to the beach in LA. She was told to stay out of the water because there was "undertow" that would take her out into deeper water and she would drown. When she heard that word she thought "under-toad" So for quite a while after that she thought a big toad was in the water waiting to get her

    How do you support your trips financially

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  4 года назад +1

      We don't spend money on other things so we can afford to travel. Since our RUclips channel has a small following we also finance trips through the different avenues it supplies, but it's basically a full time job to keep the channel moving so it's not like it's "easy money." -E
