Personal observations: While Amphibian monsters in the Monster Hunter world have scales, they likely still need to keep their skin moist at least some of the time. Every one that has appeared, Chatacabra included, either lives in or around large bodies of water, is a Water elemental, or regularly goes for long soaks. Chatacabra is an insectivore and could be seen eating Bulaqchi using its tongue. So far, it's the only Amphibian that actually uses its tongue in combat even though real life frogs and toads are known for their tongues. Chatacabra looks like it's based on a combination of a rain frog and a gorilla. It likely convergently evolved ape-like anatomy and walking style to help it traverse the desert more easily and efficiently.
Don’t forget Tetsucabra is based off toads which could explain why it never has to be near water since it spends most of its time digging through the ground
Also interesting observation, as far as I’m aware moisture might just mean more to Chatacabra than the other members of the amphibian family. Note how every time it licks its four limbs, there’s a layer of moisture on both of them until they seemingly get absorbed into the skin. To me this reads as chatacabra having skin that’s not too different from elephants, and that they effectively act like sponges and retain water for prolong periods of time. This could explain how it can go for prolonged hours or maybe even days without needing an oasis. Also, this is a bit more minor, but at 0:51 we see it lick the ground. The no-brainer explanation to this is that it’s clearly marching it’s territory, which I think is partially true, but I think it also licked the ground and that specific area because that’s where the most amount of bones are. I’m not saying chatacabra is eating the bones (though I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it ate or just so happen to accidentally swallow a few) I think this particular action is its own way of osteophaging, effectively rounding out its diet with calcium by gnawing or chewing on it. In that regard, it might be safe to say that its tongue might serve a bigger purpose than just trying to get food in its mouth. We see its tongue is lined with these weird barb-like protrusions which might allow the chatacabra to have another set of teeth which it probably uses for the aforementioned osteophaging

Even Tetsucabra has a likely dependency on water, as like I said the areas they are found in typically have fairly significant bodies of water, with even the Volcanic Hollow having a river running through it. While it's true that toads don't need to live _in_ water like frogs, they still need to soak regularly as like any amphibian they're more prone to drying out than reptiles and mammals.
@@moflump Well as a frog in the desert yes, but we also have Tetranodon who keeps soaking and drinking till he bloats and we never see it away from water at all, the way it eats also kind of makes it like a sort of filter feeder for those cucumber creatures it eats.

I really hope Chatacabra can go in more locations than the desert, so we can see some more variety in their fist attacks. A chatacabra in a lava zone would be a very fun fight.
@@Shincry He can eat Bulaqchi too, when time is Day - Fallow, sometimes he resting at bulaqchi area, we must aggro the bulaqchi to stay near him when he is resting
It's such an odd choice for them to use the Rajang/Gorilla skeleton for an Amphibian but I like the Chata regardless. It also seems to use some Arzuros and Lagombi attacks with the jump and slam but instead of landing on its butt it does a belly flop. EDIT : It looks like a person in a suit pretending to be a frog rather than an actual one.
I have clips of every monster recorded, biggest issue is not being 100% certain it's all their interactions, since some of them are VERY obscure D: That's why before uploading I'm trying to make sure to compare to any other people recording them in other media Also thanks for the comment!
