    I think that the reasons why Lunastra is so annoying in World is because of her wind pressure combined with the way in which her fire attacks function. So many of her attacks have wind pressure that just locks you into that animation for so long and your health will just go down constantly without any flinching. Oh, and god forbid if you just so happen to walking the wrong way when she does her supernova and a flame pit just randomly spawns right behind you. With wind pressure resistance the fight is ok, not good, because then it just feels like it’s missing something and the issues with the random fire pits still persist regardless.

    You should check out Bulldrome's Hardcore version from Frontier. They basically just gave him a mohawk and made him huge while adding some decently dangerous new moves. He can now actually change direction mid-charge before flopping over and sliding across the zone like a bean bag.

    The lavasioth take is so unbelievably vindicating for me lol. I fell in love with him when I played through GU the first time.
    I remember being a teen and feeling oddly insecure when I saw people ragging on World's lavasioth so much (I hadn't played through it yet myself and didn't know how different they were). So, thank you, for healing an insecurity that a young nerd had several years ago

    I agree with everything you said for Rajang, in Rise they made him a lot easier but his theme for me just hits different. It’s mostly the vocals, I’m not gonna lie, that make me like his theme in Rise a little bit more. The instruments too give him this Balinese/Indonesian feel to him, especially since his name comes from the same river in Indonesia. I don’t know if they combine some of the heavy bombastic elements from Iceborne with some of the more traditional instruments and the vocals you got the perfect Rajang theme in my opinion.

    I feel like tigrex does really need a tune up, I would like to see them do more mix ups on his triple charge so there isn't just a part of the fight where you run in a circle and wait for him to stop, like a charge with a half tail sweep to trick you up, or maybe his arm sweep into a sideways chimping lunge and then doing a big back hop to set up for his long range options

    In my head i've always grouped first and second gen monsters together, probably because all of the og's had gotten carried oder to the second gen games. And then they were almost all scrapped for Tri and only returned partially in future games.
    But thinking about it now, there really were a lot of Solid monsters in Dos and it's portable Counterparts. Mostly solid, with some... "stinkers" in between but hey, really quite alright

    Rusted Kushala Daora is a unique monster in Dos as he was limited to the city siege but when he shows up he is accessible to fight in Low Rank with a rank requirement of HR1 (LR elders are restricted to HR20 to join and HR22 to post typically), and for High Rank he is limited to HR31 (the rank High Rank starts at HR elders are restricted to HR38 to join and HR41 post). He had unique material drops in Dos they weren't used for many things but he at least makes funny noises.

    King Shakalaka is a very unique creature in Dos, he does not have a specific quest to fight him, you have to search for Shaka's in High Rank after killing 3 he has a chance to spawn based on the quest and season. He isn't hard to kill in Dos but is very unique as he has a special carve for the Song of Origins, when played in the Assembly it unlocks access to the Forest and Hills local in MH2 online.

  • @VashimuXIV
    @VashimuXIV 6 месяцев назад +2

    The second generation of Monster Hunter is where I’d argue the series really started to find its identity and how it clicked. The classifications wouldn’t be finalized until much later, but the number of new skeletons added allowed for so many legends of Monster Hunter to be born and cement their legacies. And on the subject of difficulty, I don’t disagree with the notions of monsters like Tigrex, Nargacuga, and Rajang being toned down more in base Rise given that wirebug combat allows for keeping up with them far easier than ever, and they don’t really have tools to compensate. But I love how they were still introduced to me even in their more toned down iterations because I wouldn’t have known about them until I started in Rise, so I can forgive the easier fights. Music wise I can go both ways, it’s a subjective matter, and I love the mixes that people do with the themes in Iceborne and Sunbreak. All in all, second generation owns my heart as the peak of the old style of Monster Hunter, Jank and all, I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone curious what the PSP days were like. That or Portable 3rd, up to you.

    As someone who has Chameleos as their favorite monster and is massively rooting for further improvements for the fight, I have a few things I'd love to note regarding things I want them to tweak/keep etc. for future entries:
    - Firstly, I absolutely agree that the regular item steal should return. While they did change this to only being able to steal pollen in Rise, they did add that additional mechanic of being able to flinch him so he drops the pollen for you to be able to pick up again. They could potentially do something similar with the regular item steal, where if you play aggressively enough, you can make him drop the last item stolen and take it back. I think that could be pretty neat.
    - One of my favorite additions to his kit in Sunbreak is the one where he spews out poison gas while simultaneously backing up and turning 180 degrees. This is such a neat neutral reset option for him, while also having an additional option to deal with foes behind him on top of the tail slam he had since prior. It doesn't even do that much damage, but the damage from the poison it inflicts definitely makes it worth still be cautious of.
    - Lastly, I think it would be really cool if they gave him the ability to ambush you from walls like he does in the 4U cutscene. I feel like him being able to go invisible and latch on to a wall for a moment before lashing out at you could add a bit of tension, as the player would have to actively scout for him in time before getting jumped. They could also make it so Flash Bombs knock him down or that you could provoke him into attacking earlier by shooting ammo/arrows or firing stuff like slinger pods, instead of having you just sit and wait while he's latched onto the wall.
    I love the silly guy and will always be happy to see him pop up in any MH game.

  • @CanadianAdim
    @CanadianAdim 6 месяцев назад +1

    Oh boy Shen all of the current Dos players have a love hate relationship with him as he is restricted to the Exam to enter High Rank (which you don't get carves), and can appear in the city and fortress siege but is not guaranteed to show up (we have had gaps of up to 99 days of not seeing him in the siege), which is annoying as you need his materials for some decent weapons and every single Fatalis set.

    I will say while second gen is overall really solid, I also feel it doesn't quite hit the highs of future gens. Even its best have become a bit dull with time, such as Narga, Rajang, Teostra and my favorite of the gen in Chameleos. • @davidperdue7541
    @davidperdue7541 6 месяцев назад +1

    I completely agree with Nargacuga. I keep saying to my friends that what that monster needs is his own map made FOR him so he can be using the environment against you. It's always his speed they emphasize instead of his STEALTH and Narga is never going to reach his true potential until they lean into both.
    I think a perfected Nargacuga is going to be a crafty monster who is actively hunting YOU. He should have a very wide aggro radius so he can see you before you see him and that, when he does, his AI actively tries to stay out of your sight. Nargacuga should be stalking you, hiding up in trees and/or in the cover of foliage around you waiting to pounce with lethality. Even when you DO see him and engage him in combat, he is still being avoidant and relying on his speed to get in and out of confrontation with you.
    Cue the Sonic Bomb.
    It should still flinch him and still enrage him. IN RAGE, he stops calculating and becomes very aggressive. My idea is that Narga should be in the same camp you described Kirin and Lunastra to be in but the name of the game is Spatial Awareness. I think this needs to be a very tactical hunt where your chief strat is to Sonic Bomb him so that you can lure him AWAY from areas with good cover and obstacles to force him to fight out in the open where you can keep track of his movements better and potentially create traps for HIM to fall into because, if you don't, you're always on the receiving end of his own tricks.
    I hope this is something Capcom will do for him. Focus on the Stealth aspect.
    Side note, this can be what would differentiate the Subspecies. That Green Narga could turn into a rush-down attacker who is a much more direct attacker that PREFERS the open space so maybe the trick with him would be to force him into tighter spaces where he can't execute his powerful attacks.

    I don't think her design is the problem. The giant red abdomen, the rainbow wings and the golden crown like spikes on her back are enough.

Low rank Nargacuga in rise was painful, the jump from 4U to rise giving me a bit of misplaced confidence didn’t help, and that kind of left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
    Later on I bought GU and I like him a lot better in that game - he’s easier to read, I like the blue highlights on his fur (in general I think his older designs look better than 5th gen narg, not a fan of how they beefed him up - he’s an ambush predator, he should be lithe and skinny), and his music is also better imo.

    Put ukanlos and chamy at the top and move both teo, Luna and both congas into a bit weak and you got yourself a deal

      Chameleos has had some of his gimmicks weakened in Rise, stealing, and stamina depletion gas, I think the belly flop move makes him way too easy, and I think would really benefit from a world type game that let him do more passively to really explore the personality. So I think there's some stuff Rise did that I would absolutely reverse. Ukanlos I think could be argued could slot into top tier he really doesn't have many problems but I think you could push for more varied attacks with the chin and ice beam. The Congas are pretty great with some fun environment interactions, I think they pull off comedy in a monster move set very well without anthropomorphizing, they can be dangerous with their status variety, stench in of itself is a threatening debuff, and I think they're excellent at teaching you move prediction and waiting for opportunities to strike. And even without my personal opinion Teostra and Lunastra are incredibly well developed with a need to learn how they're fire mechanics work, the ability to counter, interrupt and, delay their novas, and they developed a considerable variety of physical and ranged attacks that elevates them far above their charge spamming second generation selves

      @@cr-volcanic I don’t think chamy was weakened in rise at all it would not make sense for it to steel items at all in rise as we could just go restock so the real threat of that gimmick was gone and for the belly slam it’s danger comes from how easily he can combo into it and how much damage it does u are rewarded for dodging it with a big opening. I just don’t think congalala is good enough to be in that tier sure he’s funny but I just thinks he’s an ok monster. And teostra and lunastra are a personal thing for me I just think they don’t look cool and find there fights to be at there best ok and at their worst horrible. Tho I will admit I do like Risen teo he fixed a lot of problems I had with teostra the white fur and burning blue claws in contrast to the burnt red and orange body look so nice.

    Such a ripoff that the top three monsters in the popularity poll weren't Bulldrome, King Shakalaka, and Vespoid Queen. We were ROBBED I tell you.

    Akantor is just better tigrex

      I can respect that. As I said, if there's really any issues with Akantor, its that he is very much big demon Tigrex. But only somewhat, there's enough to Akantor that breaks away, especially as of 4th genertion. And that's a really good foundation so there's not much to complain about. I have a personal love of Tigrex as well due to history with him and his inception as a sort of ultimate predator whilst being fairly grounded.

    Tigrex is so overrated imo
    The design is mid, uneventful and not threatning at all for a monster of its caliber. Its theme is meh, its combat is boring, its armor and weapons are never anything of note, its entire thing is being a brute, nothing else, and its ecology is boring too.
    And therefore I will never understand the crazy amount of love it gets. Is it nostalgia? Am I missing something? I genuinely wonder.
    Edit: Tigrex above Nargacuga is heresy I say! 😂

      I kinda like how simple it is, I like its forelimbs and the way it scrambles toward the hunter with abandon. It’s like a MH version of a T-Rex, as opposed to Anjanath which is like a direct translation of a T-Rex with some MH stank thrown on top.

      I like the design but the fight is absolutely awful, even if they just replaced its moveset with brute's you get a much better fight
