My takeaway from Gerald Undone’s video was not that he was disappointed for not being invited. He also claimed these events cost money, so they’re not quite free.
He also praised Sony for allowing criticism during these events. And my takeaway was that he wants other manufacturers to be more like that in their attitude to release events.
High end cameras btw do have electronic shutters that are good for moving subjects and work with flash… so it’s really just a limitation of this sensor.
Now I didn’t watch many reviews of this camera myself but I did watch what PetaPixel had to say about it, and they were quite critical… certainly highlighted the shortcomings of the camera!

Well said Greg. I totally agree. Even if I had that kind of money, there is no way such a unit would interest me. The specs for my Nikon D70 even though old, give it the ability to out perform such a camera. 8,000 shutter speed and a 500 sync rating, has both electronic and mechanical shutter. I have not had it that long and I'm not real good yet, but so far it makes real nice pictures.

Panasonic walked 150 RUclipsrs off a cliff.
If the RUclipsrs are on the right side of this then they’re openly saying their audiences are phone or compact camera users. Maybe this is true?
But if LUMIX changes anything about this camera via firmware of subsequent hardware then all the excuses made by the BIG NAMES is truly pathetic.
Hugh Brownstone and his wife had problems with in the LUTS as stated by him in his video … but a phone user is suppose to pick this up and run with it.
Lumix’s live stream defended these decisions as he posted pictures at 12,800 because it’s F8. LOL!!! What’s the point of FF at F8!?

I'm suffering nostalgia for my little Nikon 1 after having managed to get a lens to not fail for about 3 weeks recently. It was great to put into a bag for an interstate trip with two lenses and a battery charger almost as big as the camera.
I wondered if there might be an MFT camera in that size and weight range, so I have absorbed a lot about these cameras lately. So I had difficulty squaring what you were saying with what I knew about the Lumix G range of cameras, even though you did say S a number of times!
This made the idea of a full frame content creator's camera seem even weirder to me. Why would you want a full frame camera for "folk videos" anyway? Maybe if you are going for the really professional look and feel. But then you are talking about a lot more kit than just a camera, and probably a very different camera from this one.
I did use the Nikon for a couple of short videos, which it handled fine, and I know of content creators who do it all with a Sony RX100 which also has a 1" sensor -- both cameras (V1 and RX) get an EVF as well.
Anyway, you sent me running off to find the DPR article for comparison, and, reading it carefully, I think you could say it damns the S9 with faint praise.
    Thanks for another interesting post.

the reviewers were C-grade youtubers. most of them know little about photography, and know little about cameras, so it was easy to get them excited about anything re the camera. but sadly that assessment does not only apply to these no-name reviewers. the top-tier photography reviewers do the same. not all, but many do.

Althoug I agree with your opinion, man, get yourself a cheap lav mic 'cause the sound is terrible bad with headphones! The noise floor is to the roof and the reverb is unbearable...

My phone is cheap, I would not be happy using its camera for any serious purpose.
For me, a G9 II. I have lenses for it. It's got IBIS, high res, focus bracketing, a multitude of video features.
For someone else, maybe a GoPro or similar. Perhaps a TG-7. For a photographer, I'd look for something compatible with their lenses.

When I heard about a new full framed digital camera coming out, my ears perked up in anticipation but… imagine my disappointment when I saw it.
No viewfinder, electronic or not, no mechanical shutter (just an electronic one) and, more importantly, no weather sealing!
I instantly turn off and looked away… such a disappointment.
About the only good thing reviewers had to talk about was the inbuilt LUTS… no use to me as I shoot RAW!

I find it hard to accept that serious potential customer don't make their own judgments using criteria along the same lines, not necessarily identical, to what you have outlined. I admit I did get my Fujifilm X-S10 in June 2022 with probably inadequate understanding of what I was getting. To be honest the main drivers in the end where price and availability. I fell on my feet.
I also consider that most youtube photographic gear reviews I watch (and its dozens across all brands now) do raise negative issues in their reviews, just not at the level of saying "the camera is shit and has no place in the market". Are buyers so naive that they take reviews without judging the credibility of the reviewer, the context and the content?

Lol, it’s not as good as some reviewers praised it to be but also it isn’t as bad as you are saying it is. You are underestimating it’s size for a great B camera or for a second camera to fit in the same bag or for travelling/vlogging. I think it’s trying to create a market for LUTs and it’s real time applications instead of post production editing. Anyways, I do love something new and different in the camera world, don’t you? Anything that makes people shift from smartphones to actual cameras is a win.

I have heard some Panasonic users say they would consider it for a 2nd or 3rd camera, which is showing how far down the pecking order it is. Unfortunately it is being marketed to 'content creators' as THE camera. And, yes, I do like new and different cameras, if they are not crippled. As for phones, I don't mind people using them, I believe in photography, not camera gear. But good comments, it has made me think of a next youtube.

Because, if You make shorts, You need vertical space, not horizontal one. Full Frame + Open Gate not only allows You to make a full-size content, but actually cut it without a quality loss, even on a kit lens. It saves time, and You don't need to hold Your camera gangsta-style, You just shoot it normally, and then cut it middle. Also, less noise - more glossy look. And Full Frame sensors are better with noise.
    4:05
I love that You so avidly hate S9, but then admit - cameras You don't like can be popular. "For some strange reason..."
    4:36
So what? It is forbidden by law to make photos with electronical shutter?
    4:45
So what? Is it forbidden by law to make photos only via EVF? The EVF was popular due to on-camera monitors being a piece of garbage. Nowadays EVFs are as useful, as a PS/2 connector on motherboard. To fancy old guys.
    5:00
While flash can be useful - not everyone uses flash. Not everyone needs flash.
    5:10
Well, great. Not everyone needs it. Less waste - less price
    6:34
Yes, because trees, leaves, buildings, sky and people standing still are notoriously fast moving targets. Also S9 has the same sensor as the S5 II/IIX, which is pretty fast by itself
    7:39
In the industry we have something called "cuts". If You make RUclips videos, You can use a teleprompter, cut Your text in pieces and film them in pieces. I'm doing RUclips for about 5 years, and in that time, when I'm using telemprompter, I'm yet to achieve even 3 minutes length for a single cut. You probably won't achieve it either, since You have as much cuts as I have. Yea - You can't film interviews or stream. THAT'S what You should say, not the "6 minutes = bad camera".
    7:48
Yes, because the quality of a phone footage, captured ON A SHITTY FIXED FOCUS NON-STABILIZED SELFIE CAMERA, are in any way shape or form, comparable to matrix-stabilized, autofocus-driven, full-frame sensor with professional lens and professional LUT. THAT'S HOW YOU GET SUBSCRIBERS!
You really despise modern video creators, don't You?
    7:57
This camera can be anything You want it to be. It would be as effective or even better at video capture, then R6 Mark 1, for example. While being much cheaper. And yes, people still buy R6M1 for videos. Cause they still believe that Canon is the best.
    9:29
In Ukraine S9 is sold with standard 20-60 lens, and last time I've checked - You can't even buy the body cap one in a kit. Also - body cap has it's shortcomings, but not in focus distance or fixed aperture. Or even in price - I trust Panasonic glass much more than I trust 7artisans or some shitty $20 plastic lens from AliExpress.
    9:37
They actually did. And they've presented evidence and explanations.
Overall - as someone, who CAN actually use S9 for everyday studio work to make a living, I consider Your take - misleading at best, and dishonest + unprofessional at worst.
Still better than "GH7 is garbage cause MFT dead" tho
