John, my wife got me this bottle for my birthday last night. I really enjoyed drinking along with this video - that’s what I love about your channel (and RUclips in general) - if we don’t have a bottle when you review it, we can always go back when we do. Thanks again for the review - it’s a gentle and smooth dram, one in very thankful to my beautiful wife for.
I really appreciate that ceiling. I try to work under $100 with most under $75. Now that I have several unopened bottles in reserve, I can wait for sales. Unless the bottle is really unique. Then it is tough. Buy or not buy! Lag 16 is a favourite of mine ... 85. Yes please!
@@WhiskyNeighbour @richardarmitage5976 I tend to put my limit at $100 as well...but I happily break that rule depending on the deal. If I am going to go way up...I need to be saving some kind of money. I'm very much interested in this 15 year old Grand Solera Reserve...thanks guys.
Very seductive review... I just finshed a Glenfiddich 12 and the 15 is next. I'm pretty fresh in the world of whisky and reviews like this help out a lot with making the first steps. A Lagavulin 16 is also high on the list. Thnx for this and I'm gonna check out more from your channel!
Being new at all of this scotch and peat whiskey stuff, I love the education you give on how it is aged, bottled etc. Tha is again for this review. And also, still looking for the 20 year you reviewed a few weeks back! CHEERS my friend!
Thanks Dave. I think you are too kind, but I appreciate the feedback. I love to talk about whisky, and any part I might know, I enjoy sharing! This is decent scotch, and affordable. I hope you find the Ninety 20, if you can find it!
hey neighbor. thanks for the review. haven't had the 15 yet but the 12 was my 1st single malt scotch. always look forward to your videos. take care my friend
Last Father's Day my mother bought my dad one of these. My brother in law and I went over for a bbq and the three of us opened and finished the whole bottled. Maybe we overindulged, but what the heck it was for a special occasion. I wasn't really taking notes, but what I remember most was the oakiness and a little bit of citrus. It's delicious stuff.
@@WhiskyNeighbour By default the Solera casking gives us something that are more than 15 years old in the bottle. It has the smoothness, fruitiness and richness in the mouth that makes it good value for money, especially when purchased from airport duty-free shops. Looking forward to more sharing in this channel.
Jon, we tasted at a local specialty bar a few months ago and my wife liked so bought a bottle. It's OK but I much prefer the depth of GD12 and the roundness of the Bunna12. A few weeks ago went back to the bar and tried 4 different scotch. We both liked the Balvenie Caribbean Cask and I liked the Oban Little Bay. Those will be our next bottles. Cheers!
Interesting. I would likely prefer GD12 as well, but this time around I am enjoying this bottle. Caribbean Cask is a favorite, thought lately, it has been a little sweet for me. Enjoy your next picks!!
The nose on that Solera is amazing! :) In my journey I have sort of jumped the 15 year-ish range. I have a couple of bottles, but value for money I find myself going much more often from 12-ish to 18-ish, which I find make a big difference. Lately I have been dipping my toes into the 20-somethings, they really float my boat, but they also tend to take a pretty serious price jump. Anyhow - very interesting talk on moving up in the core ranges :)
Thanks for sharing more of your journey. Around here I can often find these 15 year olds on sale for the same price as the 12s. 18s are significantly more. Not on sale prices are usually 12s $45 15s $75 18s $135
Great review. Glenfiddich 15 is one of my favorite whisky from what I've tried at the moment. But I have to say I don"t have much experience in the world of whisky. This year I bought a bottle of Glenfiddich 15 for 40 euros in Cyprus during my vacation. I think 40 is a good price for that whisky .
I think they are very different. The 14 has much more caramel and vanilla. This, more fruits. It would come down to my preference of the night which one I would pour. I would say this is a little more complex. IMO. Cheers!
Hello Jon, I hope you and yours are well. I like to review a whisky in private and then see what the Nerds think. Yes, secondary to the darker fruit I got this tartness that I couldn’t explain! It was lemon but not lemon, very strange; eventually I settled on lemon grass which if you like Thai Food is self explanatory. Cheers Nick
Slàinte or Slàinte Mhath. Gaelic for good health I'm told. It is the equivelent to "Cheers". I try to give Slàinte when drinking Scotch or Irish, and simply Cheers for anything else.
I bought a bottle, nine years ago, after Ralfy recommended it. I didn't care for it, found it very woody and astringent. I recently got an other bottle as a gift. It was excellent, totally different from the first bottle.

Glad we could enjoy it together! I too enjoy the gentle, but rich fruit on the palate. A great gift, and Happy Birthday!
I put a 70$ ceiling on my wiskey purchases, then saw a lagavulin 16 for 85$, best rule I've broken in a long time. Thanks for the review good work.

Glenfiddich 15 Year Solera Reserve is for me a "sleeper" a great whisky nobody is talking about - well done Jon!
Thanks Jason, I am certainly enjoying it!
I’ve been to Glenfiddich and I have seen the actual solera vat - HUGE. great whisky, I do wish it was bottled at 46% though.
This would easily become a favorite if it was non-chill filtered and 46%. Mmm, I can just imagine the richness.
Honestly, this channel deserves way more subscribers. Great work
Thank you! I am glad you enjoy sipping a dram with me.

@@WhiskyNeighbour Will do!
Yes, really good! Different! Good price point! After dinner dessert? Not middle of the road! Fruits and Fruits! Cheer's
Sounds right! Glad you enjoy it too.
I totally agree with your opinion ! Older / more expansive whisky doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll like it better ;)
Awesome! Cheers to finding good, and even affordable whisky!

Thank you for this review. Glenfiddich 15 years is great and I would always pick up a bottle whenever I get pass a duty-free shop.
You are most welcome, this is a good Scotch that gives me ore to think about then many at this age or price point. I hope you enjoy it too.

Thanks! Have you had the Solera? What are your thoughts?
I liked the 15 a lot. The bottle went in a weekend :) Nice Review.
Awesome! Its great to have the time to relax and enjoy. Cheers!!
great job Jon...just done this on my latest top 10 ...15 year old single malts from my dream bar video...great minds fella....cheers Jon
You had many excellent bottles on that list. Glad we overlapped on one!

I just bought a bottle of this last week. It is so much better than the 12. I just wish it was 43% or higher.
A little higher abv would be amazing!

Awesome. Next time I have an open bottle I will look for the lemon grass

Not mad about speysides but glenfid 15 is always a decent drop, available everywhere, saying that you can’t go wrong with any glenfiddich
Agreed!!
I tried it some time ago... It didn't really do it for me. It's one of those fruity Speysides that I'd really rather move on to better things from...
Fair. The nose is almost a fruit bomb. That said, this time around I found some depth in the palate. Thanks for dropping in.
@@WhiskyNeighbour I will keep on dropping in... Maybe I'll learn something.
@@foodquig cheers to sharing a dram, even if it is just through the screen!
Awesome review Jon! The 15 was one of the first whiskies that really got me into whisky. It would be so good if it was 46%ABV and not chill filtered:)
Cool you have that good connection with this. Totally agree this would shine so much brighter at 46% and nothing removed!
Great Review Jon!!!
Thank you, now I have to try it!
I just dropped my first review, let me know what you think brother.
Thanks. Caught your review. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!

Glad the second one was better!! Perhaps a testament to the solara process.
There are sherrys that go back 100 yrs.
Those would be incredible to try!
