I'm lucky enough that mother sang this song to me as a child. I didn't know what it was called but my sister and I asked her to sing "the horse song" because it reminded us of medieval horses galloping.
Yes, this song reminds me of a mediaeval time, where a knight in horse is galloping through the streets, people working in farms at the country side, a bustling market where people trade goods and on top of the hill there's a big castel, this is how i imagine the song would be..

This is unreal. Her voice is perfect, goosebumps, can’t believe I’ve just found this. Hauntingly beautiful, stunning women, angelic. Quality. One video I’ll return to for sure. What’s weirdly ironic is there’s Americans/Canadians who think Scarborough is a reference to Ontario. Yet everyone from England can relate to this bard. America wasn’t even thought of then. Scarborough is a seaside town in England… As someone from the north east of England, I can imagine a beautiful women like this with her son/searching for her lover, walking for miles throughout the hills of Whitby/Cleveland searching for her lover, until she came across Scarborough fair. In like the year 1400-1600… a lonely mother or wife searching for her knight in shining armour, before it was possible you’d find that true love again, when true love was seriously rare, the vocals hit you like non ever will. She’s singing into the sunset, hoping he’s out there somewhere, and somewhere he’s thinking of her… are you going to Scarborough fair? I am! (Parsley sage rosemary and thyme) the 4 love herbs. Healing, love, passion and just…. Love from north east 🏴 this hits a nostalgia nerve that no other music does. It’s not celt; it’s not Irish; it’s English as it gets. Mediaeval English, before Americans came around with guns. When brave men would kill with sword and shield to Protect their beautiful wives and children and die if it meant so. This song touches them nerves. I love this women. Fucking incredible. Makes me proud to be English 🏴
When I die, if angels exist, I hope to hear exactly THIS and it continues for eternity!!!!! I have seen Celtic Woman twice, live, and they are every bit as amazing and beautiful in person as anyone would hope. Their voices are sheer perfection. My favorites are Hayley, Meav, Chloe and Lisa Lambe but they are all vocally and visually stunning!!! Their songs make me so happy. :))

oh my gosh, how does she get her voice to ring out so perfectly ? its like the winters wind cutting across the sharp granite outcrops on the tallest peaks.
Was soll man dazu noch groß sagen.
This one is really one of the most beautiful songs in the world, through all times and this is the best version I heard of it. I use to listen to it to regain peace in my soul. Life can be though, but music like this has the power to heal your heart and your soul and make you shiny new.

That flute... that voice... that everything... this is the perfect arrangement for this song. I love Hayley's voice. I had no idea who she were before I heard this fantastic song.
I really love Celtic Woman. To be honest, I think what I like most is the beautiful women with their attractive costumes, charming manners and dances, the charisma, and the way they relate to each other. Also, the beautiful backgrounds and the captivating, often Celtic accompanying music. Of course, they sing very well too. I enjoy even their CDs and not just the DVDs.
What amazes me is that I find performances such as this, every day on RUclips… Performances that just blow me away... artists I’ve never heard of, performing something I am very familiar with… Singing in such a beautiful and unique way that I seem to be put in some blissful trance… and the choreography… Just by watching her step and seemingly glide down ramp heightens a performance that needs no embellishments… To me the singing is beautiful and I tell myself I could listen to this all day… but to watch this performance brings it to a higher level… a level where it is difficult to keep a dry eye...... ……
Odin - Thx again. I am not familiar with the music but I do find it interesting and not unpleasant. Perhaps after viewing a few more my appreciation will grow (as I would expect after watching Wind und Geige). I will mention that I do like what I will term the use of simple and / or crude looking instruments. Not Stradivarius in sight but still there is music.
This is my scenario after I listened to this song; [Set in Scarborough Fair] "There once was a woman who was desperately in love with a certain man and he loved her as well. Yet one day he suddenly died and with him her heart died also. Overtime, she grew painfully depressed so much so that her friends and family worried for her; they begged her to move on but she always refused. Then one day she writes this poem out of devotion to her love and blatantly yet subtly makes it clear that no man will ever take his place. Winning her heart is as impossible as all the tasks she has set before every other man. She will never forget her love and her time with him in Scarborough Fair..." (later on a young musician discovers her poem and makes a beautiful yet longing tune to accompany it; And so her words live on through this song as well as her love for her one true love)

It is certainly, a pure joy! She's a lovely young woman with an angelic voice. I think she was actually carried to Earth by two angels on a falling star. . . She is simply one of the best. . .
When the flute player is playing it's like there's no one else in the room but just he and her. And his focus is fixed on her, she is the one that inspires his melody, she is the one that inspires the passion. That is what I see whenever I watch this beautiful piece of art
I've seen comments on this, that is not a flute or a recorder, that is a tin whistle. And this example is quite notable...world class playing. very underappreciated component in the feel of this song, IMO. That bridge is just incredible. It is a VERY "air hungry" instrument... It requires a lot of air velocity. Because of the instruments very distinctive tonal bending, it is very, very emotive. Almost haunting (especially with that reverb). Notable mention, that instrument always reminds me of the Titanic soundtrack. It was the lead instrument in the intro on the Celine Dion tune, 'My Heart Will Go On'. So I will probably forever associate it with that, as I was a little kid when that was a huge hit.
I'm in music exam right now, and I have to analyze this song. I'm gonna be honest here, this is by far the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Is she even human? It's like she came straight from the middle ages. This song makes me feel like I was in that era, so magical!
By far the most impressive part of this preformance was the way she managed to walk down that ramp in high heels and not trip on her dress. Like, that was legendary.
+WeeklyDota Makes me wonder how many times she tripped and went rolling down the ramp in practice. It had to have happened with how careful and precise she was being. Lol.
D Papson Ironic that in calling us an ass you yourself act like one. You have the right to take life too seriously and we have the right to having a light hearted chuckle at life's absurdities. Now, please do take your own advice and as you put it, "grow up".
This song was a true company for me in Saint-martin island a very very beautiful place in Bangladesh. The beach night is unforgettable. The sea shore alone with me was also singing this song.... "Remember me to once who live there, She once was a true love of mine"

Protect their beautiful wives and children and die if it meant so. This song touches them nerves. I love this women. Fucking incredible. Makes me proud to be English 🏴
My music teacher played the start of this in our lesson today and my friend and I both got chills. Haunting.
These girls smile even with their eyes, Most beautiful and professional. May they prosper always.
This gave me chills !!!!
whoa. exactly what i was thinking!
I agree I feel the same way!
Badr Ourdi I'll admit it, this brought me to tears. Just can't help it.
Yes, me too. I discovered her by accident on here when I saw she did Both Sides Now, a Judy Collins classic.
Celtic Chills.
Lovely voice, clear, no false notes. I've been coming back to this performance for a long time, I can listen to it endlessly
her's voice seems to have been heard from heaven.
The Celtic Women are indeed beautiful in their choice of music and in their style. They are just wonderful. I love them.
Yeah ....BUT she isn't a celtic woman....she is a kiwi born and bred in Christchurch New Zealand
Pitch perfect, absolutely stunning voice, and absolutely stunning woman, and with a beautiful smile at the end. I'm in love.
Indeed a magical voice...superbly suited to this genre..in other words friggin brilliant!!
I've just uploaded a video on the history of Scarborough Fair which will answer many common questions, including how old the ballad is. The video includes over 30 traditional recordings of variants, and discusses the actual origin of the famous melody.

That woman is incredible! An earth angel!
Agreed. 👼🏻
Love to my English brothers and sisters during this difficult time. From homesick friend

It doesnt get much better than this. Hayley has a stunning voice, is a beautiful girl, and dors absolute justice to this lovely old folk song.
Beautiful song and beautiful singer.....Thank you from Armenia.
angelic voice, melts my soul every time I listening to this song
Feeling catapulted into a fantastic world made only of light ... is what I feel when listening to these notes !!!
oh my gosh, how does she get her voice to ring out so perfectly ? its like the winters wind cutting across the sharp granite outcrops on the tallest peaks.
The voice of an angel and the beauty of Aphrodite, she is a 'Goddess if there ever was one. born.
Was soll man dazu noch groß sagen.

The voice of an angel without wings.
I never have tears in my eyes...I swear, not even when I listen to this. I just always get something stuck in my eye when I listen to this cover.
Certainly one of the purest, most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Check out Hayley Westenra's duo with Andrea Bocelli also.
She is amazing.
Thanks
I'm sure she has natural talent to start with - but with her range and pitch perfect notes, I'm thinking she must be an opera trained voice.
There are three exceptionally beautiful things here; The woman, her voice and the flute play.
This one is really one of the most beautiful songs in the world, through all times and this is the best version I heard of it. I use to listen to it to regain peace in my soul. Life can be though, but music like this has the power to heal your heart and your soul and make you shiny new.

her voice is like a glacier stream in the high mountains; so crisp, pristine, pure..
When angels are in a good mood they put Irish musicians with one of the finest singers in the world ....... And you get this. Beautiful and Amazing x
Looks like a princess. Beautiful and elegant. Love Hayley Westenra's angelic voice.
absolutely beautiful...the song...the woman...everything......
the weather
New Zealand's own Hayley Westenra
BRAVO, miss Westenra.
Amazing as always.
Of all time celtic woman members, she had the most full package.
That flute... that voice... that everything... this is the perfect arrangement for this song.
I love Hayley's voice. I had no idea who she were before I heard this fantastic song.
I came for Hayley, such a beautiful voice
loser.
Like cut crystal - anything she sings is wonderful :0)
I also came for Hayley. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Cant say i blame you
i bet a lot of guys have
including myself lol
What a beautiful song..........
Proud kiwi watching this sister from New Zealand.
Well done Hayley.
I love how she has that medieval times voice it's amazing and I get chills when I hear her sing
"medieval times voice"
you mean the voice of female voice actors in medieval RPGs, you fucking nerd.
best performance of this song i have ever heard, wonderfull
This is the best I've ever heard anybody sing. Listened to it many times. It's perfection.
ricabel check out Faun also
Odin’s Son - Thanks for the suggestion. Any video in particular? There seem to be a lot. A quick peek suggests I like the genre.
ricabel Wind und Geige is good.
Odin - Thx again. I am not familiar with the music but I do find it interesting and not unpleasant. Perhaps after viewing a few more my appreciation will grow (as I would expect after watching Wind und
Geige). I will mention that I do like what I will term the use of simple and / or crude looking instruments. Not Stradivarius in sight but still there is music.
ricabel indeed, most of the instruments the use have their roots pre Renaissance. Unique sounds for sure.
This is my scenario after I listened to this song;
[Set in Scarborough Fair] "There once was a woman who was desperately in love with a certain man and he loved her as well.

The sound of this lovely lady singing this makes my heart melt each time I listen to her
It is certainly, a pure joy!
So sweet and pleasing to the ears.
Mellifluous
+TheEpicTricycle She's got a mellifluous box.
I agree it's amazing
That was beautiful. Her voice is so powerful.
Are you thus suggesting he is an air bender
A drop dead gorgeous woman with an angelic voice singing one of my all time favourite songs. What else can I ask for?
I'm in music exam right now, and I have to analyze this song. I'm gonna be honest here, this is by far the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. Is she even human? It's like she came straight from the middle ages. This song makes me feel like I was in that era, so magical!
By far the most impressive part of this preformance was the way she managed to walk down that ramp in high heels and not trip on her dress. Like, that was legendary.
pfft, LOL!... I kinda have to agree though, that is amazing...
+WeeklyDotal lol, I only started looking at the comments after she has walked down that ramp. It is indeed amazing how gracefully she moves
+WeeklyDota Makes me wonder how many times she tripped and went rolling down the ramp in practice. It had to have happened with how careful and precise she was being. Lol.
ass. you sit and watch these talented people.... and this is your comment? grow up.
D Papson Ironic that in calling us an ass you yourself act like one. Instead of trying to rob people of enjoyment and happiness you could either ignore us altogether or join in the silliness and have a laugh. You have the right to take life too seriously and we have the right to having a light hearted chuckle at life's absurdities. Now, please do take your own advice and as you put it, "grow up".
I don't think this is a Celtic woman ... rather a Celtic goddess. A beautiful rendering of a fantastic song.
This song was a true company for me in Saint-martin island a very very beautiful place in Bangladesh. The beach night is unforgettable. The sea shore alone with me was also singing this song....
"Remember me to once who live there,
She once was a true love of mine"
I watch this and want to live my life again, a magical performance.
Nice to see a New Zealand woman in the Celtic Woman Group .... Hayley Westenra is from Christchurch, New Zealand - a True KIWI !! ... We are all proud of her.
A true Kiwi? 50% Dutch.
her nationality has nothing to do with this .stupid
Superfreak Almere wouldnt a true kiwi be Māori ? Kai Tangata
Think you will find the Maori are the true New Zealanders ?
My dad showed me when I was a baby and it calms me down whenever I listen to it..I love the feeling I have when listening to this, the song is beautiful!
Truly amazing I have never had so many tears roll down my face
listening to this just makes me feel like I am lying on a peaceful endless grass land closing my eyes listening to bird singing ......
What a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice so good to hear 💗
I absolutely love how she sings this song. So pure, dare I say, "Angelic!" Also give it up for the musicians, they deserve their props, if you agree give my comments a thumbs up.
Yes, you dare.
Man. Hayley truly nailed this song.
OMG! She's so beautiful and talented.
She is so beautiful, one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. And her voice of sweet angel.
Listened to this when I was a child. Still sing it in the shower. My grandmother showed me Celtic Woman, and I’ve never forgotten. Core Memory ❤
I have just witnessed the most angelic performance, women, and song in my 44 years.
Marissa Elene Nadieja! Look her up. The BEST OF THE BEST!You'll be shocked when you hear her voice and listen to her original music!!!!!!! Beautiful music. ONE OF A KIND sound! She is the VERY BEST in the world!
Who knows this song after watching sukasuka(WorldEnd)?
I feel so moved now. The melody is so beautiful.
After relating it to the anime, I can't help crying.
