My backyard chicken coop has come under attack from a large coyote. I grabbed my airforce airgun just in time to pop off a pellet and now it's time to go tracking into the woods.

I love your channel so much, it has such diversity. With the fishing, hunting, woodworking, bushcrafting, bow making, and the fam plus the colabaration's❗👍✌️🤟🤘🙏
the best!!
I love how you walk us through your strategy for tracking and the signs you observe. I’ve never hunted but always wanted to so thanks for teaching us how to track!
Nothing to it but to do it!
When he said I got a confession to make I thought he was gonna say it might have been the neighbors dog I got a pretty sad text!😂😂
All I say is “MOTIVATION” that’s why I really enjoy your content
Love how been nodded when you said are coming out to check the bow!!!! That’s was super cute!!!
You probably already know this, but going up in arrow weight will make your bow quieter. I shoot 650gr to 750gr arrows out of my recurves, and longbows. I shot a 550gr arrow with my recurve the other day, and GOOD LORD did that thing sound loud! Another thing that can make a huge difference in the sound of a trad bow, is the string. Obviously different materials, but also thickness, will make a huge difference. Love the traditional archery content!
Yes, you are absolutely right! I recommend flemish twist strings
Yup. I don't do a lot of trad nowadays, but thr rule is the same with any bow. My carbon Elevate is shooting 655 grain arrows @ 80lb, and it's a bear slayer. Quiet and deadly.
🔥🔥 episode Sir Rackley!! Really wish you woulda found that Yote. Hey im sure it was a lesson leaned not to cross the boundry line of the Rackley Roost anymore. Nice Bow, may it bring you good fortune Brother 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
Don't know if anyone else beat me to these comments/suggestions but putting them out there.
Awesome that you at least scared coyote off guessing it headed back towards it's den.
You should fly a drone out to where you last saw blood and have a look around, I realize there is a lot of tree's it could've hid under but couldn't hurt.
Also ultraviolet light for tracking blood can't hurt.
Love learning/watching the bow builds I don't have the craftsmanship to be able to do it so it's awesome to watch you do it.
Thanks ans keep up the good work
Above the woods and look down
Listen to the crows when they are that wound up. Possibly because of the coyote but if real close it might be for you. Something else to tune in.
Great stuff.
God bless all here.
Good video! I loved the tracking. Great content all around from LFG.
It is so awesome to see how you have grown with your hunting skills. Keep up the good work! God bless
Those crows in the distance were being pretty loud. They could have been alarming others of the coyote under them.
I would suggest you reconsider your ammo choice for coyotes. I have a .25 Condor too and it is my go to airgun for medium size game like a coyote or racoon. I have my Condor tuned to shoot 43.5gr NSA slugs at 960fps, almost 90 fpe. Pellets are not the best choice for something as big as a coyote.
What are you settings?
@@CobosDoesItAll I have the Ring-Loc valve kit and I think I am using the .145 valve cap. My power setting is at 6.4 (6 on the slider, 4 on the wheel).
Another great video . Always entertaining and inspiring. Keep them coming 👍
this was awesome! love to see the trad bow out (selfbow). They make some taller blinds that would make things a lot easier for you and are even more see through inside! Also are you coming to anchor when shooting? it would definitely increase your consistency if you're not. Good shooting good form
One of the first ads that I actually want
Very cool, bet ol Wiley won’t be back for a hot minute 🤣. I’m also getting into primitive archery, building bows for a few years now and hunting traditional only since 2018. I find myself taking my recurves most every time but you have really inspired me to take my selfbow out more. God bless you and best of luck to you this season, can’t wait to see you get it done
I am always amazed by how resilient coyotes are!
Keep up those bow videos man, I love em!
Yay! I’m here for the chicken coop content!
Yep! Gotta practice all the weird shots. Sitting, kneeling, leaning, through limbs, etc etc.
You need to check out Clay Hayes’ bowmaking videos. He has a book for traditional bow making, too.
I used to take a few of those style blinds and brush them in with pine branches and other branches. Put them on about a month before season and then take them out every year. I had deer so close you could poke them countless times.
I really need you to take me hunting with you. I literally live in the same area. I’m trying to find some hunting buddies. Love your stuff man keep it up.
Love the content. That possum though, if they aren’t causing a problem it’s better to leave them be. As a marsupial their body temp lower so they generally don’t get rabies and they eat thousands of ticks per season.
Possums tend to attack chickens and steal eggs or atleast in my experience lost 8 birds last year to possums
I am super excited to see you use this for hunting man CANT WAIT.
Nailed it 💥🙌!
Sorry you lost track of it ,I don't think He will be eating Chicken for Dinner👊.
You build a beautiful Bow LFG 😍.
JO JO IN VT 😆💕
My last buck went every bit of 150-200 yards, but I heard him crash within 20 seconds. It's crazy how far and fast they can go with both lungs popped!
if you like camping and fishing you should try night carp fishing
Maybe check out shatterproof archery
Love you man!
What string are you running on the bow ? If is fastflight or some dynema type of string, it will be loud, standard dacron will be quieter but a little bit slower arrow speed wise..few fps..
I would like to see Rackley buy a ranch too
11 minutes in and I forgot to breathe!!!!! c'mon
You downed that deer when that top arrow severed it's spinal cord. 😂
Now I know to look out for Ants when tracking a blood trail.
I recommend getting a LGD breed for around the house to keep predators away from the coop and they will also do great with kids (honestly partial to Great Pyrenees and Colorado mt dogs with other dogs and children) but also super nice stains on the bows.
My neighbors have pit bulls. The animals have learned to ignore their barking. They feed within 20 ft of them.😅
@@michaelwallace7587 Pitbulls and Pyrenees aren't in the same ball park. Outside of random attacks, I've never heard of a pitbull doing anything worthwhile to wildlife. A Pyrenees will destroy every coyote it comes across.
Guard dogs that pursue pack animals leave their charges open to attack from other members. Watch Sweetgrass the last great sheep drive in America.
@@michaelwallace7587 Nice strawman.
@@amorton94 Explain? Guard breeds are suppose be place with the animals. Their to guard at weaning and raised with them. There not pets! Their loyalty is to the herd or flock. And I still believe a guard lured away their herd or flock is not worth keeping.
What caliber of pellet rifle are you using
might be frowned apron but a suppressed 22lr bolt gun would work better for varmints.
A suppressed 22lr would have done no better than this pellet gun did. He should get a 300blk bolt gun with a can IMO. Just as quiet, but a lot more energy.
@@amorton94 of couse it would better range/accuracy and power he lives in a nahborhood and if he had a ricochet from a 22 it would be much less damage than a 220gr 300blk
@@justinperdue3657 I'm not familiar with his house/land/neighborhood setup. It appears to be wooded enough that I wouldn't worry about it. He seemed to go a decent distance before mentioning his neighbors property. The main point I was trying to make is that the pellet gun he used very likely already had more energy than a 22.r sub.
Not bad blood for a pellet rifle shot. Coyotes can be pretty tough though, that's why I like a suppressed. 22-250 or .223, that hydrostatic shock explodes their ❤️ and 🫁 and they drop. Not sure your neighbor situation though, so maybe you can't do that, even if it is suppressed.
*edit...BTW, I wish I knew more about tillering and sound, but I do know from shooting plenty of trad bows, the ones that are very evenly tillered sound much better. I think the resonance of the bow plays a huge part in sound. Have you considered trying a reversed angled bow, like a slight recurve and thinning the wood out more? Obviously you'd need to sinew back it to do that, but it's a thought. Good luck man!
I shot a hog in the snout once and blew his jawbone off. Similar reaction as far as the yelping goes. He left a good blood trail for a while and then it slowed after a while. I found about a 2 inch section of lower jaw, so I figured he was as good as dead.
He won't be back for a little bit
Recently had brain surgery. .. I think close to your stuff. Problem is after surgery and I can't walk.. how long until after your surgery did you start feeling like yourself again? Meant to say I had double vision as well
V
I've never hunted from a blind before. That one looks good.
If that coyote isn't dead, he's not coming back to your place for a bit.
I've been telling Flair to get you some staves since he got the new ranch and showed it was full of osage.
Put cat whiskers on your string.
Hopefully the Coyote lay up somewhere and you will never see it again. Like the Bow making seen Mullet mans Bow it looked good enjoyed it.
This weekend for us Oklahoma
Keep an eye out for vultures flying overhead when they spot that Coyote. 🤗
What brand blind is that?
Definitely heavier arrows with quite it down
You should have a side pew with you during these hunts.
Coyotes are tough sumbguns, wouldn't doubt if he kept trucking back to a den and probably curled up nursing it's wound
Obviously you don't read your comments. This is the 4th time I'm telling you that Leupold makes a hand held thermal tracker. You lose too much game!
Just order some stainless steel ratchet straps for my dads birthday coming up around Thanksgiving. We shall see how they work out.
Honestly, baiting is the best way to deal with coyotes.
We have a lot up here in Canada. I sold 75 furs last winter between baiting and trapping.
Ive killed about 400 in the last 7 years, and our dwindling deer population bounced right back. When we gut our pigs, you can be sure to kill 8 to 10 in an evening, especially if the ground is frozen. Surprising how many coyotes can live on 415 acres.
Good job
Everyone needs more than their salary to be financiaIIy stable. The best thing to do with your money is to lnvest it rightly because money left for savings always end up used with no returns... 💯
Perfectly said! l believe the secret to financiaI stability is knowing the right lnvestment ideas to enable you earn more money. I recommend to lnvest either in real estate, crypto or stocks.

@Brandon Butler Thanks a lot for sharing his details,Wow he replies promptly!!😱
You should wait at least 30 minutes to let it die. There is a higher likelihood it will lay down and bleed out that way. 150 yards isn’t that far either, especially if you walk after it and bump it.
I think it’s time to step up to the 22LR or a Utah air gun in a bigger caliber
❤️
Those straps look sick
Get a zebra dual twist string it is a zero stress string and should not bind the imaginary draw arc plane. Put string savers by limbsavers between the two diffrent colored strings(up to four) or just split a string with a dull flat wedge(called a string seperator) and place them far enough apart to dampen the length of the string. The 1 2 or 3 nocks in the center will dampen that. Youll have to move them around trial and error.
You might beable to rent a bd meter for a day locally. This testing is why a bow press is a nessesity for a compound.
Or two speed balls or speed nocks(1 each end) might be the better option. then string savers may or may not make any more of a difference. Moving them around will make speed and noise differences.
Buy a chronograph. So you know what speed diffence its making. Maybe upto 15fps, but you sure dont want to slow it down 20fps. towards the outside can have a big effect too. but get rid of the fuzzy string. Sorry mann but its not going to get quite.
Altho you have to wax it. It didnt look waxed. Heat up the end of your wax tube with lighter and then rub the end of the melted stick on the string and use wax paper or use fingers/ nitrile gloves to rub it in completely while melted. Reheat every few inches. Plan 30 minutes to do it right. That said becareful could get glass slivers from some strings. That is not wanted in the woods with your sensitive trig finger.
Never apply heat directly to the string. Dont care what anyone says. You dont want the strands to be unevenly conditioned, melted, shrunk, dried, tightened or damaged.
Then add four more limb savers to the otter limbs 2.5 - 3 inches apart two on both ends. You can put them on the front side if they are going to hit the string after the shot reflexes. Put adhesive felt or adhesive whisper quite/mole skin material all over the entire arrow rest area. I currently have vibe stop smeared all over mine. 2 little layers produce the same results. Trim the snot out of your feathers(totally arguible). So not to hit excessively. Feathers fold back and collapse blah blah blah. Its still noise when they hit the rest and collapse against the shaft. Altho will a 30yrd deer hear that?
You can always squeeze it(riser) as hard as you can with a death grip while firing and it will be quiter and faster. Try it. Is there a rubber grip on it? You could use vibra stop to paint a design to help it look more traditional. It used to come a color that dried clear also black. Paint it on as thick as it will heave, maybe 2 coats.
Ummmmm.. potentially the more wieght you add to the string. The slower it is going to shoot. But a wieghtless string is going to be unstable and vibrate. Some wieght is going to tame it and make it slippery smooth.
Goodluck
¹the Zebra zero twist is a super strong string. The whole point was to beable to use a smaller diameter to slip thru the wind.
² the material for the rest is call whisper quite or mole skin and should come with a very strong glue already on it.
Another advantage is low stretch to break it in. And further more as it does stretch over time a reg string twists in one direction needing the nok guide and the peep sight to be turned every 50-75 shots. One the noisiest things on a bow is a shock tube to algin the thru-style peep sight. Get rid of it get a string that is twisted in opposite directions and a release that uses a speed ball with nok aligner. Or just have to finikely adjust the strands around the peep ever once in a great while.
It is also arguible if you want extra twist in the string to counter releasing with fingers.
Got one with the bow one time, cut hime wide open. like all of his insides were outsides, i tracked him for over a mile. If you think a deer is tough a coyote will surprise you. Yours is dead, mine left half his intestine on the trail but i never found him
I've never expected a wounded animal to take the path of least resistance....never assume
you can take and put some kind of fur under the string where it the string touches the bow after the bow is strung up. That is what was put on my long bow when i had it and i took the pop sound out of it. Hopefully this helps. happy hunting bud.
basically what i can hear is happening is when you release the arrow, even though it doesnt seem that it would do so, it is slapping the back of the bow. This is exactly what my longbow was doing when i first got it. so i stuck some beaver hide to the back of the bow under where the string would be slapping and it helped a lot.
That is another great spot to use anti-vibe. Actually now I think recalling the name to be Vibe-stop
Longbow strings don't contact the limb tip like a recurve, not sure if your suggestion would work. Interesting though if it worked for you.
I tried a head shot on a fox once, it bled like the coyote you were tracking, I never found it either. my thoughts are that it was a mouth hit, bleeds a lot but eventually the animal starts swallowing most of the blood.
Good.. okey
Stay Away from the Chickens !
I want to make videos like you
You can buy noise reduction stuff at Walmart, I've used the stuff for 15 years it's literally just rubber strandy stuff you attach with a zip tie. You can you use a cotton ball set for 4-6 inches on each string to accompany the same thing
Seeing the setup discard what I said, yours are as effective as what I use an actually better but I've only had 1 deer duck it in 15 years
Im always torn when it comes to coyotes. I love dogs and animals in general but i also know that they need to be gone. They harass my turkeys and deer and thats not good. But i try to head shot them all bc if they yep it makes me sad lol. So when i take them down its quick. Rite now a female is worth $90 and a male is $70 and you can hunt them all year long. Love you videos man. In God We
trust!
👍🤙
Did you have your back up gun with you because you never know .A wounded animal is a deadly force
You need a tracking dog
With that much blood loss I can almost guarantee that you won't see it again. A wounded animal can get turned around and do crazy things when fear and an injury come into play. Rational thinking is usually the furthest thing from their minds. I shot one and it howled out for a good 60-90 seconds it ran and then went across a fairly deep moving river and I wouldn't have found it then if I hadn't seen another coyote eating on it's buddy.
You need a outdoors dog, preferably a big one, especially if the kids are going to be playing out in the yard.
Try to electrify your coup
I hope that if you go elk hunting and get that nice one
Pellet guns are not ideal for anything bigger than a raccoon unless you’ve messed around with it and it’s shooting like a .22lr, people take pigs and deer with pellet guns but they’re tuned to hell, get a suppressed .22lr or something similar and use subsonic loads it’ll be quieter than your pellet gun and pack more of a punch at medium to close range, coyotes and foxes are hard as f**k if you don’t hit brain on a headshot they’ll live
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
wrap your 🏹 bow with some sheep's guts or something else that will look nice
I smoked one last Sunday
Called in or target of opportunity? Not judging just curious. I like calling
How did it taste? Haha..
Lots of em in my area wandering around in the evenings, getting too brave.. I think could make a nice hat
Looked like an arterial shot. Also if he could travel that far bleeding profusely, he very possibly is rabid. Be careful there. Keep a seriously close eye on your wife and kids when outside.
Texas is full of critter's that are up to no good!
Not if he glanced it. Then he might have been pushing it every 50 yards of the way.. Not sure how long he waited. But he should go look again after 12 hours.
Do you have a friend with a hunting dog that can track animals ? LLF RULES ! 🕊️🙏💟👍👍
Looks like you need a dog…
U should get a dog may help alittle
@@tatertots-n-soup ok
Ditch the pellet rifle for animals that large. It’s immoral and often illegal to wound an animal like that.
Use a real rifle or leave it alone.
that's a fake coyote don't worry 😆
Probally just pierced its ear
Not with that much blood.
You were shooting at a downward angle towards a critter that was looking up at you, given that geometry, and the angle of the critters skull, I think that it's highly likely that the pellet glanced off its skull instead of penetrating it leaving a nasty graze wound which like all head wounds no matter the critter, bled pretty well, leaving a trail until it started to clot, it's most likely not dead, but I think it will leave the chickens well enough alone for a while, it's angles like this that causes bullets to bounce off car windshields, and wind up god knows where, which is why most police department policies forbid shooting at or into vehicles.
If you hurt that coyote he wont be back. I know I told you to shoot helical fletching, but you have not listen. Check out the different angles your arrows go into the target. That tells me you might just wound your deer, and he will get away also. Go helical man, or you will live to regret it. You dont like wounding animals any more than I do.
It tells me only one fletching is hitting the rest. As long as it still spins in a straight line whats the difference?
Oh plus it shoots slow enough without extra drag
With only 1 or 2 degree turn on the fletching, there wont be any drag, and it barely touches the rest on the way out and the arrow will correct itself while traveling to the target.
@@kraigkline4375 how does the applied theory work without drag coefficient?
I can prove you wrong on the arrow shaft spline straightening magically theory too np.
LFG can you make an archery tuning video? For this test use 7 or 8 paper tuners setup in a row to a 10yd target. The first one should be set 3-6 inches infront of your arrow and evenly spaced to the target. So we can see the kick on paper as it is in flight? Ill tell you exactly how to fix it.
Or you could build it out of 2x2's, 1/4 inch dowel and office binder clips.
Ps. the thinner the paper the better or it will change flight charectistics if it is really heavy printer paper.
If it doest flatten out in the first 10yrds the spline is all wrong. I will need a good close up of every sheet in order. Thank You
Not gonna lie I’m a bit torn with coyotes, they are just doing what God created them to do. Eat and live. So I feel like killing one for trying to eat , even if it’s your chickens or whatever. You should probably make a better enclosure for whatever your keeping. Bro , Rikley , your one of my favorites from Googan . I just would say kill what you will eat. That’s all God bless brother
Can't allow Coyotes to hunt near your home, especially if you have young children and pets ! People are the dominant species, that's life !
You'll sing that song until a coyote attacks your small child because you let it get comfortable around your house. We were given dominion over the animals, not just for food. I don't see Rackley letting the pelt go to waste if he were to recover the animal.
So you think the chickens shouldnt be free roaming
I watched for 4 min. I can't watch anymore. I own house-wolves they are so close to feral. If you saw my buddy you would think he is a coyote, and actually he is very close. Feed them out in the woods by killing deer/hogs and leaving it.
Our ancestors tamed these beasts for a reason. 😓
Dogs are neither tamed wolves or coyotes.
No, what are they? Slowski.
Dogs are exactly tamed canine breeds. Our ancestors made a pact with them to look out for one another. Then after a few mellinia you have modern "dogs"
Look up the domesticated silver fox experiment 1985ish.
@@tatertots-n-soup - They were domesticated all over the world with the oldest found in Siberia not England which is a country and didn’t even exist then 🤣
Screw that. He has small kids. He absolutely should not be encouraging these opportunistic predators to stay around his house for food.
