- Need some extra storage space indoors or out? In this video, I'm building a simple but great looking bench with lots of space inside. Mine will go outdoors but you could also use it as blanket chest, toy chest or mud room bench.

Welcome to the official April Wilkerson RUclips channel. I’m April and I’m the creator of Wilker Do’s. I'm not professional or have any training, so I just pick the project I want to tackle and figure it out step by step. On this channel you will find a variety of content like DIY home improvement, How-To’s, construction and more. - Хобби
This would be a great for a UPS or FedEx drop off location. This will help prevent porch pirates by providing a location for delivery drivers to drop off packages that is not visible from the street. And if you are really resourceful you can use it with a doorbell camera and an internet lock to lock the bench once the package is delivered. Every house should have a package bench.
or put a mark roper glitter bomb inside
It would be nice..... what are the chances that a delivery person would actually use it though??
@@robertdickson1440 you could put a nice clear sign that says Packages -> Also contact your local shippers and let them know. The more people start using them the more they that packages will be delivered in them.
I have a neighbor that installed a Knaack job site box, (many people typically have them mounted in the bed of a pickup truck.) We live in a safe area, he just wants to keep the delivery drivers off his long paved drive.
Yes. Perfect for those folks who lack Rober-style superpowers.
I have followed you since the very beginning when you were in your first house and just barely starting out. So glad to see how far you have come. God bless you, your parents, and your doggies!!!
When did she get a divorce? I don’t remember her sharing anything on that. Or did she?
Thank you so much! And thanks for still being along for the ride.
@@GodzHammer nobody said anything about a divorce…
@@sambenao7 lots of people do. No more of him in the videos, no more talk of him, no more ring. Lots of men are eager to know!
@@GodzHammer April never wears her ring in video's ... and long time ago April's husband told her that he didn't want to be in her videos, but He still supports her in what she is doing..
Such a humble maker to show making a mistake and proper correction! Impressive!
Oh yes, I always show my mistakes. :) Thanks for watching.
A safety note if there are small kids around you need to add two things, 1 a soft close lid support to keep it slamming on little fingers or bodies. 2 some method of having air get in when the lid is down.
Awesome April, you've made yourself a good life and you deserve it. You've come a long way girl. Stay safe and keep up the great videos and projects to keep folks busy and throw in some fun too. Fred.
Thank you so much!!
Watch all your videos. They are interesting and you make them seem so easy.
Glad you like them!
I like the look of the legs - both the shape and the color contrast.
Made the bench yesterday and it looks great. Also have a porch full of dogs. Thanks for your terrific, empowering videos.
Awesome! Glad you found it useful. Thanks for sharing and for watching.
Just wanted to say thank you for the all your videos and hard work, you did help me a lot with woodworking and I appreciate everything you do. I truly love your videos and always looking forward for your next project. You're amazing and I love you.
Cute and so are your dogs!
I love the dogs ! Nice project April 👍
Thanks! Yes, they're the best!
Great job once again.
Thank you!
Nice project, enjoy the channel. May want to add a soft close lid dampener so make sure no kids get their head/fingers banged from the lid falling down. Kids love playing in boxes and a $10 add on could help.
Channel locks are far superior for pulling brad nails through, much better leverage curve on head of channel locks. Love your channel.
Nice touch making the slats look like siding! :)
Thanks!
Nice project here April. Can’t wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Build On. Keep Making. God Bless.
Hi April! I would suggest you look at carpenter (End Cutting) pliers in lieu of those line pliers. They have a rolled face and are designed to clip fasteners or pull them out in an easier "rolling" fashion. I use the Knipex End Cutting Pliers (5001210). The Knipex are ~$25. I also have a pair of Stanley (89-875--or a variation of these). The Stanley are ~$18. Either version will change your life if you pull nails.
Yes I was thinking the same thing !
Very nice storage bench. I like the way you made the legs a different color. Thank you.👍👍♥️
Love the feet, offset design. Brilliant April
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
April you solved my problem, I love what you doing.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful.
April, Thanks for giving me my next project for our new home !
You are so welcome! Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.
Great job April ❤
Excelente trabajo muy profesional hecho con MDF de 15 mm, ya me veo trabajando en tu hermosura de taller k tienes April bendiciones 👍
Great project, and even better a few of the napping loafs! :D
Be a good “mail” hideaway!
I thought this tool was wonderful, too bad that in Brazil there are only low quality tools! I loved the video!
So beautiful i loved the colours you selected. Useful beautiful and you make it seems so easy to make. Well done dear April
Thank you so much!
Great design. Very sturdy and well constructed! Have to try it out! Very cute doggies too.
Thank you!
April, really liking these types of videos you’re posting. Although I may (actually don’t) have the plethora of machines you do, I can still envision a way to get similar results with the tools I do own. 😊
Excellent! So many complain because "they don't have the tools I do, they can't replicate the project". They can, it just may take longer to cut lumber but they certainly can still do the project. Bravo for being creative and using what you have. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant great to watch x
Nice piece!
Thanks!
Love the bench, love the pup!
Thanks!
Love your workshop. So organised
Glad you enjoy it!
Awesome Looking and Easy To Build Storage Bench April! I like it! 😀
Glad you like it!
Another excellent video mate! Quick tip, buy a pair of Dykes for pulling the nails, its even easier than plyers ;). Cheers, keep em coming!
Great build . Paul uk 🇬🇧
Good looking and practical!
April - love your work! You have a lot more patience than I do when coming to screw things together. I could not help but notice your piece sliding on the bench while putting the screws in - this drives me crazy! I usually screw or clamp down some blocks for resistance.
Really appreciate you and your videos. Thank you so much. Happy Thanksgiving.
James.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoy my channel. Thanks for watching.
Very nice looks great! I like that design!!
Thank you very much!
You could also install a pair of gas operated telescopic springs used for cabinets, may be even better than chains.
What a great useful project. Thanks
Glad you like it and found it useful. Thanks for watching!
Great looking bench! I especially like how you overlapped the boards on the sides of the bench giving it a very sharp look. Awesome color choice as the blue with white trim works very well. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and best wishes always❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Wonderful choice of colours and lovely touches of your fingers..i will try to make one..
Thank you!
its awesome April and this will give me a idea for dog toys storage
Great idea! Thanks for watching.
Great looking storage/bench, April. I like the design and the colors you chose when painting.
The dogs are cool. Nutin' like a dog buddy, huh? Thanks for the video.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Nicely done 🤩👍
Safty Glasses
Good morning, April! VERY nice project! We can always use more seating AND storage on our decks. Well, I know "I" could! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I hope you, your family and loved ones have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving Day. God bless.
Thank you! I'm glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

You know, I’ve made many a mistake making things!!!! 😂😂, for me it’s all learning!!! Love the look you went for here!!! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!!! ❤
Yes! Thank you, it was great. Thanks for watching.
Nice build.
cool project
Thats good stuff April.. Long time follower 💪🏾
Aw thanks! And thanks for staying along for the ride!
Nice storage trunk April! I definitely enjoyed this build. This is a great use for Armorite. I always like your designs and step by step instructions. Keep on building! Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃!
Glad you like it!
Looks great ... the only thing I would do different for THAT chest is ... I would have and interior lid that hold up the cushions (Just enough space between lids for the cushions to be squeezed in because they are larger than the box area) and under the inside lid have STORAGE ... you can NEVER go wrong with more storage space.
6:05 after many years of watching woodworking on RUclips, i feel MDF would not last very long if you're sitting on it outdoors
PS: love the doggie footage at the end!!!!
2:49....Ohhh....It's wonderful....you're wrong too....Of course: you're human....Good project April
Oh yes, very human. I always show my mistakes. :) Thanks for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson Very good woman April...🥰🥰🥰
Great job, nice video.
I would prefer the hinges on the inside of box though, would look cleaner and less likely to rust.
Thanks.
Good
Totem and Rooster are so cute April! (I think that's their names. I hope I got it right.) 😀
You did! Yes, they are adorable! Thanks for watching and always being so supportive.
A credit great job
A little extra work and this could be a package locker
My dad made something similar about 27 years ago, also for 2 people and cushions. Different material though.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing and for watching.
Thanks for the video. What staine/sealer do you have on your deck? It looks great!
me encantas!!
instead of using pliers to pull nails, use a pair of channel locks - works great!
Great project. However, I feel that you could've put 3 hinges or piano hinges for the lid. Two hinges , with the weight of that lid....won't last the distance. Or maybe my idea is an overkill.
I want to make one of these so badly as a hope chest for the foot of my bed for the bedding to be stored in. problem is I don't have tools or a truck to get supplies!
Did you intend to omit the Exterior Grade Wood Glue and DAP DynaGrip from the materials list? I understand the paint choice is personal, but the glue and DynaGrip seem like things that should be on the materials list so the builder doesn't arrive home with everything on the list, then realize they must go back out again. Just a thought. Over, I love the project and plan to build my own box this weekend.
Thanks! ONE question. What type of adjustable height shop swivel stool did you use in this video? Looks like it has a great height range too.
Lower tool storage looks great!
Thanks in advance.
Mac
Nice! First i have heard of the Amorite. Any thought to selling cut build kits off your cnc?
Hey April, what are your thoughts on using MDO (Medium Density Overlay plywood)? I heard that when it’s painted it is a really good outdoor wood to have.
Looks good. How can the rest of us buy armalite? it looks like it is only available in texas and utah?
GREAT IDEA 💡 APRIL, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU MAKE ALLOWANCES FOR TALLER OLDER ONES
like myself ( I’m over 6 ft )…that can’t get up If they are lower 😁🤗💚💚💚
which nails are you using with the milwaukee nailer 3:31 sec thanks for the video
This armorite exterior MDF is a great idea but so difficult to find. Distribution to the big box stores (wish I have access to) is unavailable. I checked out the website but I would have to go 300 miles to pick one up.
Nice build and I really like the color. Can you tell me the brand and color paint you used?
How did you fix the extruding nails on the inside of the box? I thought you might tell us at the end of the video but you didn't address it.
LOVE all your stuff!
Use the right length nails and they won't poke through.
snip them flush as you can and sand them down with random orbital sander is what I would do
Awesome build. I noticed you don't use positioning squares. Curious if it's because don't like using them, and if so, why? I'm new to woodworking so totally a genuine question. TIA
The box is a nice idea! Can you build a backrest to the box? The backrest should be removable and fit in the box.
You certainly could put a backrest on if wanted. Thanks for watching.
Where did you get that cool yellow stool?
Maybe add a strip of wood around the top to keep the cushions from sliding off?
Hi April great project where did you get the Armer Right & how much did it cost? I live in zip code 37128 in TN so I went to there web sight & couldnt find a seller with in 100 miles from me, what substatute would you sujest for the Aromer Right. for a indoor project?
Where can you get exterior mdf? Not seeing options in the Midwest/Iowa area
what would be the next best material is Armorite isnt available near me?
I 'ts nice
Are your plans in metric please...les from new Zealand...cheers
I would be interested in knowing how well this Armorite is in holding screws in endgrain mdf?
So far so good! Thanks for watching.
I see from the materials list that 1 1/2 inch screws are needed but I don't see any information about what SIZE screws (e.g. #10, #12).
Where can I buy exterior grade MDF? I just have the big box stores in Knoxville.
Can you imagine how heavy this must be?😂
Not that much, two people can easily move it. I was moving alone when building it. Thanks for watching.
Neat but CNC and a product that's hard to get and expensive. Meh...
We can't get MRMDF or colored MDF here and I live in a metro area.
Did you mention cost? What about compared to pine with exterior paint? Thanks.
Some don't want or aren't able to find a nearby Armorite supplier so use plywood instead. It's personal preference. Cost is subjective because some already have left overs from previous projects. Thanks for watching.
Living in TX, do you have trouble with snakes getting in things like this? I have a cheap plastic thing that fills with spiders but I'm more worried about a copperhead or even an armadillo (they carry several diseases nobody needs).
If such is a worry, how do you address it?
That mdf will hold up to the weather outside?
It's the whole point of Armorlite.. I wish I could get is by me, cool stuff
❤
Is it warm down there? It was a high of 40 here in Shreveport.
It may be cool or even cold one day but usually within a day or so back to being mild or even warm. Thanks for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson Same here. Been in the 40s the last few days but was in the 80s before that. That's our southern weather.
👍
Errr... won't the hinge screws tear out of the edge of the MDF top piece? I think I would have gone with a piano hinge with a zillion small screws into the bottom face of the lid.
¿everything you do is cool? even paint over the table, lol
