  • We decided that this corner of the house needed something so I built a custom bench seat. It wasn't too complicated and was an easy DIY project that anyone could attempt.

    Are your tops terribly heavy? I’m wanting to build a couple of these that will be 7 ft long. I’m considering cutting the top in two to make it less heavy. Wondered if you thought it was necessary?

      @nickdesgn  Месяц назад

      They do weigh a decent amount. We thought about adding additional hinges such as the soft close ones or hydraulic ones to help with it. However, I would say the size of ours is perfect, any larger i would definitely suggest cutting them in two!
      You could always install it as one 7ft long piece and test it out. If you find it too heavy even with the proper hinges then I would cut it.
      Also depends on who will be using it (just you vs. family members/friends/kids) and if you trust them to be careful with it. Hope this helps!

    Looks great, nice and clean design. What was the cost for materials?

    • @nickdesgn
      @nickdesgn  2 месяца назад

      Thanks! I dont have the exact cost but it was somewhere between $200-400 CAD for the size we built. Cost will vary slightly depending on materials too. For example, we used mdf boards VS. plywood. Both work just as good, it just comes down to preference. Hope that helps!

    Creative. Not a fan of the HVAC solution or the top. Would have centered the HVAC register on the front of the unit. Also, Would be more visually appealing - and stronger - if the lid backsplash wooden strip was one piece verses three. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@jinojonesscaria No problem! I searched "custom bench cushion" on Etsy and there were numerous options on there. You just have to tell them the length and width plus the thickness you'd like once you find a seller you like

      We found someone on Etsy who custom made them for us! We sent the dimensions and chose a fabric from the options they had. It was very simple and easy to do if you're looking to do the same!
