Your video tutorial helped me alot! Very straightforward. I was able to flash my BEF using the same battery charger you have (CTEK 4.3 MUS) with no issues at all. Although I hear that it is recommended to use a charger with at least 6 amps or above, I did remove the electric fuel pump fuse in order to conserve voltage during the flash.

Very helpful thank you. I just bought my 2010 135i and I noticed in the glove box is that bimmer geeks plug. So I’m wondering if the car had been flashed before. It certainly feels stock. But it won’t be for long since I have parts on order now. I’ve been trying to find out how to do exactly this. Can’t wait.

Yours is an great channel. You are one person driving sales for all these tuning companies. LOL. Congratulations. One humble request to you : Lot of guys enjoy tinkering with their cars. Some like me enjoy a great fast car but are too scared to break things so no tinkering. In your videos, there are lot of jargon which simpletons like me don't get. How about a video which brings people like us to speed. I will give example : JB4 tune / difference between JB4 stock and different map / MHD / Backend flash / BEF... Seems there are different ways of modifying cars. What separates JB4 from COBB tuning is still not clear. Thanks

Why would I want to run both MHD and JB4? Aren't they both essentially the same thing?
Gendo3s2k MHD is the tune itself no safety protocols or monitoring for the engine, computers, sensors.
Jb4 takes care of that, so your car will run smoother and safer

Love the videos man! You inspired me to do the BEF on my e90, feels alot more smooth and predictable now. One thing I noticed is that auto clear is not working anymore and I have a constant SES light now, when I pull the codes it's just o2 sensor codes for my catless DPs, do you know what the issue could be?
hey i have a 335i on 93oct. i have FMIC, DP'S, Exhaust and jb4. quick question can i run JB4 on map 5 and get MHD stage 2? would that be safe or what would you recommend?
So why is the mhd back end flash so much better that just the jb4 on map 5 and why run both and not just mhd ? I'm fairly new to BMW but I do have a jb4 and dci on my 535xi . I guess I'm just ignorent to all the technical details ! And info or links to learn would be appreciated thanks!
erichill79 It's the JB4 back end flash via MHD. The back end flash is still made by Burger Motorsports. It brings the safety features of the JB4 and on the fly map switches with the power of a flash tune
Not hating at all but that makes no sense! So it basically the same thing as map 5? I have JB4 with Bluetooth. Is on the fly for guys that are wired?

once i finish ofhg, belts, belt, tensioner, idlers and plugs ill have to do this, already have jb4 with catless dp, car is fast but this would take it up a notch for sure.

Hey fanatic can you please help me! So I have a 2008 e92 335i fbo + mhd stage 2+, say I buy jb4 with the g5 chip, do I install the jb4, then use mhd to backend flash? And will that essentially allow me to change the maps, and always use map 5 (some days 91 gas only, some days 91 + 4 gallons of e85, then fill up with 91) etc, will I still also have the burble setting when I use jb4 + mhd, and with this backend flash, it’s pretty much using mhd performance, but having the safety features and map selecting with jb4? Also is map 5 recommended for fbo + mhd/jb4 backend flash + 91 and 4 gallons of e85, thanks! Sorry if it’s a lot I just don’t want to break my car lol... it’s been very well maintained but I’d rather just save headaches
Also, can I data log with mhd, and turn off/adjust burble setting or adjust anything with the mhd app? Or will I need to use jb4 software to data log and adjust? Or can I use the mhd app on my tablet for everything including data logging?

I have Cobb / OE tuning dealers around me but not JB4. I am not in to track, drove an M3 and loved the throttle response. Want to upgrade my 2007 335i 6 speed with 85,000 miles to somewhere around 350-370 WHP with least money. I can deal with less power, but want more stability as I am mechanically challenged. I already bought the Dual Air intake cones you recommended in other video. Did walnut blasting and now start hearing waste gage rattle noise. Would hate to replace twin turbos. Can you suggest something please ? What made you go with JB4 and not other tuning options ?

Your videos are awesome and very intuitive. I’ve watched many of your DIYs for maintenance, and now I’m ready to mod my ‘09 335i Convertible 70k miles. All the bolt-ons are enroute along with the JB4. Are you still recommending the same back-end flash or is there something else I may have missed?
What happens if you flash a map without the jb4 in map 0??
Do I need to re-tune my bef if I go from stock turbos to pure600s? Using 93 pump.
In the settings for your mhd bef. Did you select the oem cats setting. Or leave it off.
I have installed the pump flash with soft burbble and oem cats on. And it keeps throwing a running lean code.
Hey sorry for the late comment but in this video you talk about a pump flash, race flash, and e85 flash (bef). You also say that the pump flash is good with up to 30% e85 how much ethanol content could I use with the e85 flash? Would the e85 flash work up to 100% e85 or e60 or how much?

I'm a bit confused, My 335xi is FBO w/meth. I currently run the JB4 on Map 3. If I were to BEF with the MHD map, what map would I set the JB4 to? Additionally, how will my meth be controlled?
Hi BMW Fanatic, Did you download and update the jb4 firmware before flash? I was reading on to N54 Tech forum firmware section and shown four or five firmware. Do you know which one is the most recent? The other question is which bin file did you download? for example; from JB4_BB2_I8A0S_PUMP_01.bin up JB4_BB2_I8A0S_PUMP_21.bin also this option JB4_BB2_I8A0S_PUMP.bin. I'am really confused. Can you clarify me please? Thank you.

I have the MHD JB4 Backends only flash. I don't know if you have already answered this question but, what is the difference between the BEF and this map you are downloading? I have tried to download this map but it keeps giving me an error/corrupt code. I am trying to accomplish a few things with this car and would like to do things right I just don't know if I already have this installed with my BEF??
Just need to know what are the benefits. I am on upgraded stock twins with WMI, 2 step and anti lag but am having a little issue when hitting the 2 step. The car tends to go into a limp mode for about 30 seconds or so. Same for anti lag. Don't know if you can help, just thought I'd share.

Quick question, so after you BEF, you reconnect the JB4 OBDII and set speedo4/tach 2. After that it says select your JB4 map again, does that mean if I was running JB4 map5 before the flash do I just put it back to map5?

HELPP Is the BimmerGeeks KDCAN Cable suppose to stay lit the entire time it is connected?
I am having issues connecting to my car and and seem to target the issue. I plug in the BimmerGeeks KDCAN Cable and it lights orange for 2 seconds then red 1 second then goes off. Is this nominal?
No, mine turns off. Try this... make sure the car is on but not running and hooked up to your device first, then plug it into the OBD port. Counter intuitive, I know, but my cheap kdcan cable "sleeps" if I dont get it plugged into the device quickly.
When the back end flash is on does the gas usage become a boost gauge or am I doing something wrong? I’m really confused do you first go to map 4 then Menu select through those options??
And also does it have to be done right after flashing because at when I did flash it I forgot that process at the end
I'm new to the bmw scene. Previous car was an Audi B5 S4. Tuned and quick. I now own a 335i but it has the N55 motor. I know not quite at tunable as the 54. Does the 55 have any similar flash options? Or is the jb4 and similar piggybacks the only option? Thanks in advance for your time

Put your car back to stock with the saved bin file that you hopefully created before flashing, then reflash.

You don’t have to purchase the backend files - you have to pull them from N54tech.com. You do have to purchase the backend flasher for $79.99
Hello and thanks for the great videos as I am a newbie to the BWM scene. When I purchased the car (2007 335i n54 auto) the previous owner installed a custom MHD tune with FBO and Pure Turbo Stage 2. Last night I installed the JB4 for the safety reasons mentioned in your videos. Is it possible to save the MHD custom tune and then load it as a BEF? I really don't want to lose the custom tune. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated. I guess my actual question is: Can I backup the current ECM program and then download it as the BEF? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work
Saving a DME backup should save whatever flash is on the right now. So yes, your backup would be the custom tune rather than stock.
**NEED HELP** !!! i installed mhd backend flash to my jb4 exactly how you said, everything works fine... my issue is that now i need to go to inspection... so i had the backup stock map that was generated as you did and i flashed it back to stock went back into jb4 put it on 4/3 and turned jb4 into bypass mode (speedo 0/tach 0) now when i use the mhd to check the dme i got incompletes for my catalyst, evap system and o2 sensor, the rest are complete or not available... i saw the driving cycle and i have only drove the car for 2 days since i flashed back to stock... please help or give me any advice and let me know if im doing this process right... hate to fail inspection because the mhd flash :( btw the car has stock cats and no sensors have been messed with... all was well before the mhd pump flash...
I would check it with the JB4 and see the codes. You might have an O2 sensor failing and an EVAP issue is somewhat common. Luck of the drawl sometimes on these cars when shit pops up on the dash. You could clear the codes and see what comes up again
I’m still confused, what does the backend flash do that the JB4 or a normal MHD tune can’t? Does it mean that Map 0 will act like an MHD tune?
Mueed Khan backend shifts fueling, timing, Vanos to the DME side and then the JB4 is used as the boost controller. They work very well together as they are made for each other
Mueed Khan More power and smoothes out the JB4 when driving
Mueed Khan you would select your JB4 map still. The majrority of the JB4 maps bump up 2psi.

Jose ph Yes. The CTEK used here is also way too weak for a flash like this. A power supply of 30A max is the safest.
i really like when you turn the engine on the clusters doing that full check. can you do this in ncs expert? i have a e90 2006

NexusAbstracts That would be the BimmerBoost flash via a laptop (only for the JB4 backend flash)
should be somewhere in the settings on the tablet you can set it so when you connect the cable to the tablet it will open mhd right away

I recently purchased my car and had no clue it had a JB4 in it and I have very little knowledge on how it work and what maps I should set my car to the car does have the Injen Dual Cone intakes and a magnaflow exhaust I was wondering what map I should set it too I check my pressing the buttons and its at 0 - 0 was wondering if you could recommend what I should try out.
Space Coupe N54 are those the only 2 mods you have? If so it’s recommend to start on map 1 it should target around 13psi i believe versus the stock 8psi and do some logging to see if the car is pulling correctly. If you want to use map 5 that is an auto tune map which means it’s constantly changing and should target anywhere from 13-17psi depending on your mods and your octane level. Just remember to log your runs see how the car is feeling with the new power before you try and go crazy. Map 2 targets 15psi? But you need at least catless dp’s to safely run it and i think it’s recommended you use 93 (could be wrong). Just put it on map 5. It will add timing until optimal and pull timing when based on iat. Then feel free to mix up to 40% e85 in the tank and have fun.
Just had all 4 pre and post cat , heater probe sensors come up, is there a fuse that they run on or do you have any advice on what to do ? Cheers

It bumps up the boost 2-3psi more on map 1, 2 and 7...so yes much faster 😀

In alot of your videos you do one quick click on the start button to just turn the ignition on without actually starting the car. No matter how I try that on my 09 335i the car fully starts. Any ideas?

Did you have your doors open ? Make sure your driver door is closed. It doesn't work with driver door open.

I usually run a 50/50 e85 mix so initially I'd do the e85 backend flash, but what if I want to run just straight 93 when e85 isn't available?

Mel B That's the joys of the JB4, you can still change maps on the fly even with having on a backend flash, so yes!

So, you are running map 0 on the JB4 and Stage 1 on the MHD?
YoCasinoJoe it's a JB4 backend flash, so fuel, timing and Vanos on the DME side of things and the JB4 on boost. Map 5 is the map I'm running.
