- Battling blustery conditions, Hanson & Hall Class 50 - 50008 “Thunderer” would top and tail with Freightliner Class 66 - 66509 “Josiah’s Wish” to power ‘The Millbrook Meander’, chartered by the Branch Line Society.
The tour would start out of Eastleigh, with 50008 leading the consist south down the South West Mainline to Redbridge, via deviations to explore the Freightliner terminals at Southampton and Millbrook. From Redbridge, the tour would work to Salisbury via the Wessex Mainline, before traversing onto the West of England Mainline as far as Yeovil Junction. 66509 would lead the tour on a reversal to Yeovil Pen Mill, for 50008 to regain control for an amble south along the Heart of Wessex Line to Weymouth. The final leg of the tour would see 66509 lift the consist away from the Dorset seaside town, travelling up the South West Mainline back to Eastleigh to conclude proceedings.
A points failure at Eastleigh would delay the departure, with 50008 getting underway roughly 20 minutes down as it thrashed its way beneath Campbell Road Bridge. After the meander through the Freightliner terminals, 50008 put in a spirited performance at Mottisfont & Dunbridge as it led the consist towards Salisbury. 50008’s climb of Evershot Bank was more sedate, as it led the tour through Melbury Bubb. Finally, with 66509 in charge, the consist is viewed at Bincombe as it climbed Upwey Bank.
All the profits from this railtour, including an onboard charity raffle, would be donated to Martin House Hospice.

Footnote:
The day served as a baptism of fire for some new tripod components. Due to testing configurations and being unfamiliar with the set-up options, some of the clips are not quite up to the standard hoped for.

Nice! Beautiful service
Cheers
excellent shots 👍saw it at kings cross and Stratford London with 20007 sadly didn't get it leaving kings cross they put a passenger train in the way on platform 6 so they went to the end of the platform so there was no room 😟
Great coverage 👍
Thank you
What a beautiful noise, hairs on the back of my neck standing to attention and goosebumps as she pulled out of Eastleigh, and with so little effort. That 66 sounded like a drawer full of cutlery in comparison, what a racket - they don't make 'emlike they used to!!! Don't mention the tripod, my ears were in charge not my eyes😂😂
It was great to finally capture 50008 - it having evaded these cameras for so long. Worth the wait for the sound alone.
It's a shame the 50 didn't lead out of Weymouth to really complete the set, but we can't have it all our way
Glad you enjoyed it, Bob
That's a lovely shot on Evershot Bank. I just caught it passing through Yetminster, always love seeing rail tours on this line. Thanks for the video!
A very picturesque line, always a pleasuring seeing it graced with railtour traffic. Glad you enjoyed it.
It's a shame that the "Hoover" wasn't on the front for the climb up Bincombe bank, but I suppose we have to be grateful that the weather held.
Was very grateful that the weather stayed favourable for the day.
With the layover time in Weymouth, I had been hoping that the 50 would be run-around to lead the return as well. But we can't have it all our way.
Your signature videos always have considered establishing shots & idiosyncratic angles. Your research must occupy hours prior to actual filming. Great work
