Rangers icon Walter Smith’s life hailed by Sir Alex Ferguson & Ally McCoist at star-studded memorial

  • WALTER SMITH’s life and achievements were hailed by football royalty including Sir Alex Ferguson and Ally McCoist at a star-studded memorial.
    The Rangers icon’s family and friends were joined by dozens of famous sporting faces for a service at Glasgow Cathedral for the 73-year-old who passed away last month.
    Walter’s close pals Sir Alex and Ally gave speeches at the celebration of life event led by the Reverend Dr Mark Johnstone - as did his son Neil and brother Ian, 68.
    Current Gers captain James Tavernier gave a bible reading while entertainer Andy Cameron was among other club figures to share their tributes.
    Wife Ethel, 72, son Steven, 41, and other close relatives including Walter’s beloved grandchildren were in the pews to hear treasured memories and poignant tributes.

    The boy who went to Ibrox with his grandad was born and died a Rangers fan. It was probably his dream to play for us. He didn't get that dream, but he gave us our dreams. For that I will ever be thankful. Rest easy big man.

    I was very sorry to hear that Walter smith had died he was a great manager most memorable times as rangers manager was 9 in a row and taking rangers to uefa Cup final in 2008 was amazing achievement. Also he turned scotland around in his short time there beating France, etc he put fighting spirit back into national team bless him and his family sad time much respect to him
