Great video Parker. The single best tip in this video is this. "I wasn't very good back then" Now you are rocking it and I love how you are not afraid to show your earlier work and point out things you did wrong. Not just because everyone can learn from that, but because everyone can get the idea that it's OK to not be amazing when we start out. That's part of the process and instead of getting stuck in, I'm not good enough, I don't have the right gear, I don't have the right lights, I don't have... we just need to keep pressing forward, creating and learning. After a few years we'll hopefully be like... Parker Walbeck! ;-)
Probably my favorite video we’ve done yet!! Beautiful job Park! :)
Really loved your rendition of this song
You couldn’t have brought a dress shirt?
Yes .. He's awesome. We r blessed; we got him. Tanner!!
Your song is so good Tanner. Keep it up :)
@@xtr33me I loved this song too!
I appreciate your honesty about your early mistakes and how you learned from them to become a better shooter. It shows great growth. Especially important as a good teacher it shows your division from ego to illustrate your transition well.
watching the evolution in ones craft is one of my favorites. complete night & day difference between both videos. reminds me when id write a song, i felt it was great for a week but then it would suck a month later, then repeat the process over and over, it never ends as were always learning.
oh my goodness!! I've been watching videos how to light a scene / interview.. (im no pro.. just going to do an internal video regarding client expirience that will be presented during the quarterly organization meeting).. oh boy.. out of the 20+ videos I've watched.. you are the BEST in terms of lighting, framing, and teaching!! subscribed!!
Agree:)
Dude what in the hell, this was fantastic. The shots looked amazing. LOVED how you broke this video down, all the pre and post lighting, flashbacks to previous videos done at said location. Video was perfectly paced and showed explanations in a practical way. Seriously, SO helpful. So glad I found the channel! Definitely going to check out your course as well
Amazing !! That is EXACTLY what I needed for a previous shoot. Wish I had seen before. Thank you Parker for this and all the other videos you did, I really like your style you rock
Fun to see you shoot in this location! I’ve shot a few weddings here and the lighting is always rough with the mix of natural light from the big windows to all the yellow light inside. I love the location but trying to get shots that I actually like in there without being able to really control any of the lighting at an event always makes me feel like I’ve got my hands tied behind my back. Love what you did with your lighting in this video!
Congratulations Parker! You are one of the only ones who maintains humility in the audiovisual field. Besides providing excellent work. The colors are amazing, well graded and your videos look beautiful.
Love the magic that unfolds in your creative process.
I love when you throw in clips from the beginning of your filmmaking career!!
Never get tired to watch your videos....you are amazing videographer....
Really loved the way you tied to dig out every possible way to make the video look better, that's what film-making is all about.
You are the best one in this job bro you have a good way to explain its easy to understand . I learn lot because of you thank you bro .. Nd hello from Morocco 💕
💕
I've been watching your content for quite a while, and I always learn tons from you. I am only a hobbyist, but I truly appreciate how well you explain what you're doing.
Parker, once again it is a pleasure to watch the master at work. Thank you for the informative running commentary. I always learn something new from your videos.... and in the end, I think the informal apparel worked in quite well and added some contrast to the formal background!
so found a video from this channel by accident, now I have been trough most of his videos... awesome content
So helpful information, thank you so much. Hope one day we could have place and a crew to do such work.
It's cool seeing how experience changes your videos.
This is such a good step-by-step tutorial! :D I love how Parker takes us through his thinking process
I'm buying full time filmmaker when I get some money. You've earned it, dude
Fernando Forni same
It's a great investment. After watching it, I've been able to land clients that pretty much immediately helped pay itself off. Good luck on your filmmaking journey!!
When are you getting the money?
Did you get money yet?
How about that money?
Very helpful to see you critique your own previous work and also to listen in as you think out loud while solving problems on the set. Thanks for making and posting this.
Great Mini Doc about your work style. All your comments are helpful. The results in final product are great. Thanks for posting.
This is sick!! I always love when videographers show their progression!
I just got hired by the best Advertising Agency in the west side of Romania as a creative director and there’s a lot of pressure on my shoulders but for some reason I feel very confident in what I’m able to offer and that in part is thanks to your tutorials. I’m definitely going to purchase your course on my first payment.
Love the content, incredible what a little lighting can do. Keep em coming, this is by far the best information available on youtube.
I really appreciate the generosity of these videos. Thanks Parker
You're a magician! Thanks so much for sharing. Super valuable stuff
Its amazing to see your growth from your old footage to your current footage, I can see your determination for greatness Parker great work!

I just want to point out how important lighting is, especially the color of it, and white balance. The after looks much cleaner (white makes things look clean and a good "white" light that is not too much blue can make a huge difference) compared to the sun lit one especially since the sun light floods the run and blows a lot of things. Also control lighting can create the depth you want and give the picture a certain feel. It's nice to see the progression in a video and see how much of a difference a few changes can make.
I appreciate you including everyone in the piano lifting. You don't want to flex too hard
This is one of the best and most educational videos I've seen in a long time.
Wow. Fantastic and thank you for showing your before & after. It's important to see great imagery, but it's also helpful to see that it's a process and helps establish WHY the first didn't work as well. Thank you!
Nice to see job shadowing videos like this. Very good stuff.
Man that was awesome!! I cannot believe the difference all the lighting option and really how much it makes a difference. This really taught me so much! Thanks Parker!!!
It's always a pleasure watching your job shadow videos. Very educational and entertaining.
This is how we should change through out the years of filmmaker learning !
I am so glad to know your choice of lenses. Because I exactly own these three lenses. Sigma 20, 50 and 85 f1.4 ART. 👍🏻
I was looking something like that! Tnx bro! Your work is just perfect
Wow..... It's really interesting seeing you work and demonstrating the depth of so many takes on the video shoot and so much detail.....i really learnt alot from this tutorial ....
i love how monotone and chill you are. that shit is creepy cool
nice seeing the thought process on light balancing and pre-thinking the angles... loved the "lift where you stand" piano move. :)
You are a tremendous educator! Thank you for breaking it down with such great detail!
I haven't watched it yet but its exactly what I need since I'm editing a group's video now. Sweet!
I noticed that you did not mention audio. I usually play the studio version and have the artist sing along with it to make a good lip sync, I then make a Multicam clip out of all the takes and switch in post and add B-roll where I want it.
man u deserve an award.God bless you
I love the Job Shadow videos, so much to learn in a short amount of time. Gives you not just tips but doable and actionable tips :)
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Parker!
dude you're so humble and on point with everything!!
Just realized THE WARDROBE WORKS 👀👀👀 It looks like some dude sneaked into some fancy hall after-hours, and humbly performed this amazing piece when no one was looking;
it makes him stand out from the background more than wearing a tux as well
That exactly what I was thinking
Parker, I love watching you work, it’s really helped me understand filming much more! Thank you for taking the time to “teach!” Are you LDS?
Your job shadow videos are awesome! You really know your stuff.
Every time i watch one of your videos I make sure to check if the SUB button is pressed so I dont miss you the next time .
Parker, your channel is the one i cant replace for sure !
Much better than the last time on lighting finessed it lighting and camera work you really brought the video to life made me feel I was apart of it I've learned a lot trying to get back in the film game its a beautiful way to express yourself.
This is just beautiful, and videos like this one inspire us to keep improving in our videos.
The amazing Parker Walbeck
First off: great video... I'm serious, I absolutely LOVE THE FACT that you showed footage of your old shoot to really demonstrate what you meant. Plus, some of us don't know much of the lingo so it's cool to get reference.
Thank you sir.
Subbbbbbbbbed
OKAY...I been seen your ad all over my instagram and Facebook...an I hate it....and then i was let me see what this guy has...and now I'm a SUB and I love what you do...and it has helped me alot thanks.
@@fulltimefilmmaker great job thank you bro
Hey Parker, excellent and concise video! I was wondering if you ever do paperwork for your shoots (like storyboards, treatment, location and lighting plans, etc.) or is it more of an on-the-go type of planning and shooting?
Great work dude, it simply goes to show the importance of lighting and framing. As they say in the movies Lights, Camera Action!
You really sweat the details, the lighting in this video is so amazing. Comparing the two videos you shot for the same artist, difference is night and day. 👏 Does also the camera and lens help with these results? I shoot a lot on an iPhone for my channel, not sure it can handle such contrast in dark environments.
Thank you! Love the fact you mentioned to stay in the 180 and some of the lenses you use. This came in very helpful as I’m filming my first music video mid December. Thank you!
By the way I love your style. Cheers 🍻
that shot with the piano inside was so fire. man good job
"I thought you said you could lift this yourself" made me laugh
Parker this video was incredible... Thanks so much for taking time to teach us...
Thank you Parker, awesome tutorial! You have the gift of teaching! God bless you!
Wish I had so many good chanels like this to learn from back then in 2008. :)
I was about to comment on his outfit but the wardrobe tips popped up :D Good job!
Really kick ass material Parker. Definitely going to sign up once I get my new house set up to get better.
Parker, you are the man! I'm part of the FTF fam and would love to see some mindset videos from you in the future. Digging the perspective + positivity you bring to filmmaking education. Thanks for all you do!! Happy holidays!
mixing color temps is a way of making color contrast for your character and the background, keep the warm room practicals lol, throw a backlight in that is warm and then you have a nice motivated edge light source on your talent :)
Your the best dude, and this was perfect timing, I have a music video coming up.
Well done. Thank you for all the valuable insight. Fantastic musician as well!
Hey Parker, just wanted to know how much I appreciate your content, I feel like I'm able to make incremental improvements in my videos because of your efforts. Keep up the amazing work! One question, do you ever use brightness and contrast in post production to get the look you want?
Best BTS video I’ve come across. Killing it, thanks for the help 👊🏼
I love this, and am very passionate. Soon I will get to class
I think those yellow lights looked gorgeous. They are the character of that place and give them that old traditional 'candlelight' look.
What you could've done to make them less dominant is perhaps reduce the brightness of the key light by a little and then increase overall exposure. That would increase the brightness of the yellow lights as well and brighter lights 'feel' less saturated than underexposed colored sources. My 2 cents
Greetings from South Africa..... great vid Parker.
I like those safety shots.
Parker, little do you know how helpful a few words can be. Slider for closeups? I've been going a little nuts trying to decide how to get still close shots with a GoPro Hero 7 Black (Hypersmooth). Hunh-uh, hardly possible without a steady support. So, muchas gracias for that.
Such. a GREAT. teacher. Amazing job!
You are one of the master of flim making .🔥
love your work Parker!
Great video man, well done. Also a good example of how we grow over time and improve as film makers.
Parker,
Could you make a video about shooting an outdoor music video, with examples of good establishing shots, and what are good focal lengths and framing to use for a singer as the subject?
Woah, this is a great video! My first time watching anything from you. Everything you're talking about is very practical information, my technical knowledge definitely just leveled up. And it's really inspiring to see where you were at a few years ago because that's about where I am now. I'm going to be doing a lot more to control my lighting in the future. Thank you for sharing all of this!
Musician here trying to figure all this out for self-producing videos. I had no idea so much work is involved. Much more respect to people who work in visual now.
These job shadow videos are dope!! Would love to see more Parker
Man these videos are sooo stuffed with knowledge!! Cheers!!
These videos are SOO helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make these Parker. :)
Learning a lot just from watching your videos
Magnific! you're a genius in the film's world!!!
I've watched this video several times and I just really took notice of your wardrobe tip @ timecode 4:50 Don't feel bad about it, contrasts can be very good for music videos in the same way that black and white go well together if you get what I'm saying. It sparks the interest of the viewer
WOW! Thatz really awesome. So much to learn from your videos. In fact I feel ashamed of learning this free. Love from Bangladesh!
damn that before and after comparison is probably the biggest glow up I've ever seen hahaha gives me some hope
Great tutorial. I have been subscribed for a while, thanks for the passing of information. I know your comment out clothing but I think it really makes the video. Especially given the song I don’t think formal would have worked tbh. Great work
You should consider taking a field monitor (like a SmallHD 1703) for the students shadowing you to be able to see what you are seeing.
These videos will be the reason I will get an A in my video production class
