  • The expansion of Sadiq Khan’s Ultra Low Emission Zone to cover all of Greater London has many of its newest members furious with the new ULEZ charge.
Since the beginning of September anyone driving a non-compliant vehicle in the new ULEZ zones must pay £12.50-per-day.
In South London's outer boroughs of Bexley and Bromley many of the cameras which have been erected to catch people driving non compliant vehicles have been damaged and in some cases cut down and removed.
The borough now has mobile ULEZ camera vans which set up in different places around the charging zone.
But a group of Londoners are making it difficult for TFL to us these vans to police their new policy.
And they've enlisted the help of a creature not seen in Britain for 110 million years...
Watch the video to find out how London’s Anti-ULEZ protestors are putting a spanner in the works for Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ expansion across South London.

@@markrainford1219 Why give you a choice of two things that you consider to be negative? Because it suggests that you are not in favour of cleaner air measures. Emissions tests are fine, but when the density of traffic exceeds certain levels, then pollution rises, and in certain conditions, stays at ground level where people are. A single car on its own driving in normal conditions does not cause significant levels of pollution, but the density of cars in a major city such as London, where even on the outskirts congestion is common, certainly does.

@@wyattfamily8997 What is unfair? Having filthy air to breathe that reduces life expectancy - that is what I call unfair. And to call people 'sheeple' when they do not agree with you shows that you don't have a coherent argument. An argument should demonstrate why your right to drive in a polluting vehicle trumps the rights of people to breathe clean air. As someone who had an extremely severe asthma attack due to atmospheric pollution, and my life was saved by a doctor who came out urgently and gave me a steroidal injection before whisking me off to hospital, those on the 'my rights' bandwagon aren't going to carry much weight with me. I can understand that some people in older vehicles might need some financial support to lose their polluting vehicles, but that requires a political solution itself, not the scrappage of this scheme. That so many people band together in what is clearly self-interest, and not the greater good, tells me that Britain is broken as a society. The British Bulldog spirit should be fighting for the right to breathe clean air, not for the right to pollute. And this bulldog is on the side of those people that want to breathe cleaner air.

Where I live they are shutting down public transport options, buses etc., the village where my elderly mum lives (can’t drive any more since my dad crossed the bar earlier this year) has only just got back a limited bus service, which is still only a trial run, this year after ten years without one and constant lobbying by local councillors and the public.
It would be interesting to get a detailed breakdown of where all this revenue gets spent, over and above the many other tax revenue streams which were imposed on the people of London. It is indeed a punitive tax designed to keep the poorest in society in their box. I remember the days when Labour championed (or at least appeared to) the working class, sadly no longer the case. They are just as bad as the Tories.

There is a "ULEZ" scam in Bristol, lucky enough I have a compliant car, wasn't bought for this reason, just happened to be so, however to go to friends I'm forced to travel through the area by 200 metres if my car wasn't compliant I'd have to pay £9. I know friends who own companies that drive over 3.5T vehicles (£100/day) drive an extra 30 - 40 miles to bypass Bristol.
Yes in an ideal world, everyone would have a compliant vehicle, however not everyone is able to afford that, and having to pay extra(£12.50/day in London (that's over £4,500/year if used every day)) they will never be able to.

    • @ianjenkins1905
      @ianjenkins1905 9 месяцев назад

I've just done another calculation. If you wanted to buy a compliant car to beat any "ULEZ" scam based on the max you'd pay, based on London, you'd have roughly £380/month for a loan. obviously lower for other cities! Now not everyone can afford that and not everyone has the credit rating, whatever the circumstances to get a loan. The "ULEZ" scam is a scam to affect the poorer/less fortunate people.

They are being charged for polluting the air in high population density areas, as that causes children to get asthma and not develop to their full potential and old people to get and then die from respiratory disease. It is only 10% of vehicles that are non-compliant and get charged. Any petrol car less than 18 years old and any diesel car less than 9 years old will be compliant and so not be charged.
Although Khan was responsible for the details of the implementation, Michael Gove's Clean Air Strategy mandates local authorities to take action if the air quality falls below safe levels as has happened in every London borough. His alternative to ULEX would have been an outright ban on polluting vehicles, but that would require legislation,

Firstly I am so pleased that people and even animals are coming together to help one another and see change happen.
Secondly I feel this ULEZ idea will be all over the country if it’s not stopped now. There will be a day charge for travelling in your own car.

I mean grocery are charging you more money when self checkout was supposed be cost efficient allowing savings, instead your charged up the wazoo to scan and pack your own items after having to spend your hard worked money to survive at prices made for profit... yet you’re supposed to accept this system as “smart” 😂

It won't stop there. I reckon they will be used as part of the face recognition system. Part of big brother.

So going out using fuel to protest about emissions... big oil wins again aka the profits £1.5 million per minuet and rising thanks to protesters...

This is why America is so great. This would be illegal for the government to do this here. Grandfather laws. And those vans wouldn't physically last 24 hours here, because they'd be destroyed.

Yeah I’m from the US and people do not take kindly to government overreach. We have almost no red-light or speeding cameras now. They were just moneymakers for cities
